Barring the occasional after work drinks and the many coffee rounds, Ianto hadn't really had that much interaction with the surly doctor but that didn't stop the Welshman from caring about his colleague's well being after a Rift alert. [ it's been a long night. but it's a night away from everyone tj knows, everything he knows, and that's the most important part. freedom away from the known and embraced in the life of the unknown. before long he'll have to go back to the spotlight, getting dragged through the mud all for the sake of selling news and getting ratings.

but whatever. whatever. he's not thinking about that right now. because tonight tj is just letting himself have fun for the sake of fun.

which is how and why he winds up at some out of the way bar down some street he'll never remember the name of for about his sixth personal nightcap. by this point, the alcohol doesn't even really burn on the way down anymore. it's nice. he likes being like this. somehow tj's even made friends with some surly looking folks by the pool tables. the night is his as far as he's concerned.

it's later on when he crashes outside, wanting air. it's warm and sticky but he likes it, tipping his head up and back toward the sky. a deep inhale is taken then noisily and delightedly exhaled. a cigarette is pulled from his pocket and tj wastes a little time patting himself down to find the lighter, but it's to no avail. the acrid smell of burning nicotine is nearby and he glances over finding himself not as alone as he'd first thought.

sidling over is easy enough, fitting himself close, but not too close. even with the alcohol addling his brain he respects personal space. mostly. ]
