Sometimes, when he couldn't sleep or just felt like the modern world was too much for him, Bucky would sneak into Steve's place. Usually he'd just curl up on the couch until Steve woke and helped with breakfast; other days, he'd end up at the foot of the bed in a ball and wake up from the best sleep.

This morning, it was the latter. Bucky was sound asleep, even snoring a little.

There had been more than a single occasion when Karal had asked himself just what he was doing in a kingdom like Arendelle. It was a rather frequent thought in between August and April, actually. Especially as his darker features stood out like a banner within a group of pale-skinned natives. And the fact that he was wearing quilted black cloaks over brilliantly colored shirts, tunics, and pants whenever it wasn't a balmy summer day. There really wasn't a color under the sun that a desert-born Karsite didn't enjoy, and the more the better to their eyes. At least Karal was a bit more conservative and kept himself to only three or four...

Which was why it was probably quite easy to spot him riding with a pair of mules trailing behind his horse as he came through the city gates. That, and the fact that he was following his nose and ears while guiding his little procession through the chaos of the market. He had a slightly shy smile for those who called out to him in welcome, and a seemingly endless patience when someone called out 'wait a second, cart crossing!'. It was a mask of polite patience he'd perfected over the last ten years and had gotten quite a bit of use as the chosen northern diplomat for his country. Ever since that first year with the whole freezing over thing on coronation day, Karal had made sure to have a number of warm layers handy for himself.

However, this time he'd come back from his trip south with more than just clothes. He hoped Anna wouldn't tease him too much about bringing back more books than clothing. Especially since there were more than a few items for her tucked away along with the books of elemental magic meant for Queen Elsa.

Aang doesn't have a home, but he can't sleep on the street or people would try to give him to child services. So instead, he breaks into places to sleep, usually cheap or low-income areas without too many people, and then spends the next day finding food and looking for another place to sleep.

He broke into the hallway outside of Murdock's apartment because he had seen that the tenant was blind and he didn't expect to be caught. Yet he was woken up in the middle of the night with the man prodding him with his walking stick, telling him to come inside so he could sleep on a real bed and have real food and the man would call his parents in the morning.

Aang insisted on sleeping on the couch. The promise of breakfast kept him around for the morning, and Mr. Murdock tried to coax his story out of him. Aang countered by trying to coax Murdock's story out of him, and neither of them made that much progress before Aang ducked out.

He had been tempted to come back because the whole experience was nice. It was almost like having a caretaker again. But the man would call the authorities, so Aang couldn't go back... up until two weeks later, when he found the same man beating up some mobsters who had taken some other street children (who, perhaps unadvisedly, Aang had been aiming to save himself). He wouldn't have recognized the man if it weren't for the fact that he passed out in an alley after and Aang took off his mask to check a cut under his eye.

Aang made sure no one came across him until he woke up, and after that he just sort of... drifted towards the man's apartment again. He would come in late at night with news from the street, then drift out before anyone woke up the next day, sometimes leaving little gifts behind in thanks (tiny origami cranes, origami flowers, crowns made from woven leaves and grass and flowers). He did it more often than he probably should.

Tonight's another night for that. Aang knocks on Matt's door and sits down in front of it. He could break in, but he chooses not to.

It's been twelve years since Erik last stepped foot in the Xavier mansion, under more hopeful pretenses than these. It felt like an eternity ago, the end of one chapter in his life with Shaw's death and the start of too many more--one so long as to include years alone in a cell. The grass, it seemed, was less green on the other side, literally and metaphorically.

Fourteen had passed since Erik had been there, but only three since he had last seen Charles. Three years of building his brotherhood, of feeling betrayed and yet unable to stop trying to formulate impossible, ridiculous schemes to unify their ideals once again.

He knows better; Their companionship was never meant to be. Still, he misses him. Some times, he misses him more than others.

And that's why Erik is here, Helmet on his head, as he decides whether or not he wants to slip it off of his head and let Charles know he's there. He doesn't, not yet, not while he sits on Charles' new, ground floor room's balcony.

He wouldn't just knock on the front door, not with the school back in order. ]
