[ She actually looks really surprised to hear that. Did she hear Kate correctly. ]

( it is really weird to hold this much power in a conversation with victoria, and kate's starting to realize why she'd never ever had it in the first place - it makes her uncomfortable. so she just shrugs victoria's uncertainty off. )

Sometimes forgiveness isn't just for the person who's trespassed. ( she shrugs - maybe she's not letting her off that easy. )

[ She can't help but stare at Kate now. This girl... even after what happened to her. Even having her named shamed all over the place, she was still just as pure as before. Victoria was a little envious of that.

She bit her bottom lip a little and glanced at the door as if making sure no one was about to open it. ]

I'm about to do something okay. And you can't tell anyone what I did.

[ Because that sounded non threatening and everything, right? She slowly approaches Kate. ]

( oh my god, is she going to hit her? no, not likely, but it is kate's first thought, ridiculous as it is.)

[ She bends down and pulls Kate into what was possibly the most awkward hug in the history of the world. Well awkward because it was Victoria, and when did she ever display affection to anyone? ]

( it's like being hugged by a 2x4 and kate isn't all that welcoming at first, either, just as stiff as victoria until she finally gives in and puts her arms around the other girl. )

Are you hugging me because you feel bad? Or did I just freak you out that much?

( she punctuates by rubbing a hand against victoria's back soothingly. she really does feel bad about that now that she's a bit more evened out mentally. )

[ She tenses up when she feels Kate hug her back. This was so weird, especially for her. The only one she really showed this much affection toward was well... Nathan. But bringing up that here probably wouldn't be the best option right now.

Either way, Victoria seemed to relax just a tiny bit, but she doesn't let go, not yet anyway. Her face was hiding in Kate's shoulder. She didn't really plan out what she was going to do next. It was like a spur of the moment thing? ]

I told you you'd be sorry, and bearing false witness is a sin. ( her tone is blithe - is the joke too soon? but she stays still in the hug, letting victoria work through whatever it is she has to work through.

she kind of wants to ask her if she would've put the video of her suicide up on the internet under her vortex club video, but refrains. forgiveness, remember? )

[ She was right when she said that. Boy was she right. Even though she's been able to save face in front of everyone else, behind closed doors she's been a complete mess ever since Kate attempted.

Why is it she can't ever learn her lesson until something terrible happens? Why does she have to be that way? Her grip on Kate loosens up a little, but she still doesn't pull away.]

[ She tries to sound like herself but it only comes out sounding pathetic. ]

You know what's even more stupid? I miss the sound of that stupid violin of yours.

( it has been awhile since she's practiced, hasn't it? having the room next door to victoria hasn't been easy, but kate's sure it hasn't been easy for the other girl, in terms of the noise (although she doesn't think she's that bad). kate laughs in response, a soft thing, and then finally detaches from victoria, figuring she's suffered enough. )

I'm sure you'll eat your words if I come back ... but that's nice of you to say, Victoria. ( or, kind of. )

[ Victoria finally pulls away and lightly rubs at her eyes. Nope, you don't see a thing, Kate. Not a thing. She silently sits down beside her and stares at the floor. ]

Yeah well... I have a nice bone somewhere buried inside.

[ It was her attempt at a joke, but she probably didn't sound like it. ]

I'm starting to see that. ( and it's amazing, truly. kate won't try and begin to make sense of victoria's personality, the meanness - some sort of defense mechanism, but for what? - but she knows that deep down victoria has to have some sort of empathy, somewhere. she's a teenage girl, not a sociopath, and she does appear to care about nathan. they're certainly ... two peas in a pod, but kate doesn't bring that up. )

Thanks for coming to visit me. The flowers really are beautiful. ( she also doesn't mention that she's going to give most of them away, save for a couple, because she doesn't know if victoria would like or understand the altruistic approach with the flowers she'd purchased. but there are other people in the hospital - on her floor - that need them more than she does, at this point. her copy of the october country is on a table next to the bed and kate takes one of the lilies and closes it between the pages. )

Here, Victoria. I have something for you. ( some of her drawings are on the same table and, carefully, she tears off a drawing she'd done earlier of a cat and holds it out to her. )

[ She turns to look at Kate with confusion written all over her face. Something for her? Now she knows she doesn't do this apology thing all that often, but she was pretty sure bullies are not suppose to be getting things from the people they bully, especially when they are completely shitty people. Kate really was too nice for her own good.

She slowly takes the picture from her and looks at it. Kate's drawings were always pretty cute. Even Victoria had to admit that. But something about this drawing seemed ten times more amazing. Perhaps it was just the fact that Kate was giving it to her or something. Either way, Victoria smiled just a tiny bit. ]
