PROTECT
![]() ♔protect♘ You're a someone on a dangerous quest, a hero in a not-so-easy spot, a royal, or maybe even the last of your kind who will bring about the Earth's redemption. Whatever the case may be, you're valuable, and you're in a position that may be a bit dicey if you attract the wrong kind of attention. And you're the protector, the only person who can keep that erstwhile hero or heroine out of harm's way. Somehow, you've been roped into protecting this person, whether it be through your loyalty to them or someone close to you, a mission, or a promised reward. You'll be rewarded, of course. The work may be cut out for you, but just do your job, keep your head down, and it'll go smooth. Except, as things get more perilous and truths are revealed, the two of you break the bounds of protector/protected or guide/guided and feelings may begin to flourish. Being in such close quarters may get you to see the other in a different light, and saving someone's life just may be the ultimate form of intimacy. Could this be the real danger? To feel so strongly for the one you've sworn to protect...are you compromised? ʜᴏᴡ ᴛᴏ ᴘʟᴀʏ »1. Comment with your character and preferences, being sure to put if you want to play the protector, the protected, or either. Also, you may want to put if you prefer fluffy, angsty, or smutty interaction - or have no preference. |

So when heavily armed bodies burst into the place through windows and doors, Bucky had to move. He lept up, hopping over the coffee table from the sofa and flipped it to use as temporary cover.
It was just a good thing he wasn't alone at the time, or he'd be completely screwed right about now.

What does one ex-Russian say to the kidnapped forced-to-be-Russian?
Most of the time they just did their own thing, in the same general vicinity of each other. It was nice. Non-commital. Quiet. She liked it.
But frankly, the number of armed men busting in was ruining Natasha's quiet hour and it was seriously pissing her off.
Thankfully, Bucky could think for himself in creating the shelter behind the sofa, and she was right behind him, bracing herself on his back to keep from landing a bit more heavily than she would have liked. Quick as a flash, she grabbed a pistol from where she'd stowed in near her ankle, shoving it at him before grabbing a second gun from the small of her back.
"You didn't forget how to use it, right?"
Poking her head up over the sofa, she ducked again as shots went out, before moving upwards again to shoot at least one of the men who seemed intent on killing them. Or, at least, killing her and taking Bucky with them.

He ducked back down a moment to listen, trying to place their movements. Up again, he fired off another few rounds, those being more on the warning side and grazing the men as he darted to the hallway and ducked into the office space. Funnily enough, Bucky took a spare beat to muse on how funny it was to know Steve actually had an office.
Snatching up a letter opener that caught his eye on the desk, Bucky poked his head around the corner to throw it at one. It lodged in his neck as he dropped lifelessly.

Natasha, for her part, was just trying to let go of the fact that he'd shot her.
It was stupid to try and stay in the living room -- too many entrances, none very defensible. Anticipating Bucky's movements, she followed him down the hall, diving behind him into the office and tucking a neat roll, ending up behind the desk, which she turns over as a way to shield them from bullets.
"Russian. At least, they shout in Russian when they die," she murmured to him, darting up to shoot the first man brave enough to enter the room in the face. No messing around, not with terrorists. Besides, they were shooting to kill, too. "Any chance you have a cell phone on you? No idea if Steve's place still has the security that Fury put in place on it and we could use some backup here."
Not that they couldn't take care of it themselves. But Clint would never forgive her if she didn't include him in the fun.

"This is you," he waved towards Regina's dark knights that were standing armed in front of them. "Go go, off you go." She wanted him to take her to another world for some reason and all he wanted was to go home to his daughter and have a nice dinner. This was the last time he took a shortcut through the Forest.

roll with me in this weird au
[ after the incident with the grounder, bellamy's gone above and beyond and way further in space than even the ark has travelled to protect her and keep her guarded. octavia understands what her brother's doing, but it doesn't mean she likes it. ]
[ she sneaks out, just because she wants to. the sun's setting and the campers are tired from another mundane day of hunting and patrolling. she tries to keep her footsteps quiet, but there's so many dead leaves and twigs lying about that there's an inevitably crunch. she always lifts her foot slowly off the offender, and continues on her way. ]
[ she still aches, just a little, from where the grounder had burned her with metal. but she doesn't think of it. it's nothing like the neck wound wells had endured. if charlotte had slipped that knife deeper into his skin instead of giving him some sort of flesh wound, he'd be dead. ]
[ and she'd be alone at the top of this steep slope. ]
[ octavia rolls her eyes once she spots him standing there, every bit of the chancellor's son she's come to continue to hate. she throws her head back and groans before she looks at him once more. her stare is as sharp as her annoyance. ] Really? You?
groans
He has had his fair share of rest in quarantine, having lost a great deal of blood with little medical supplies to help him recover. His body is still weak but he can at least leave his tent to get some fresh air.
The sunset is nice. It's calming and he wishes he could capture it somehow, choosing instead to keep the sight burned into his memory. A broken branch pulls him from his thoughts and he turns sharply, hands up to show that he holds no weapons – though he should be better prepared, especially a knife tucked into his boot now. ]
Enough room for us both. [ It's an attempt to be good-natured, but it's also automatic that he bolsters his defense. ]
touches ur hiney
[ she glares at him, gaze as sharp and unimpressed as she can make it. ] No, there isn't. [ with heavy steps, almost brat-like, octavia pushes herself away from him, steps long and wide and too powerful for a girl who's hungry and grieving and scared. but she doesn't want to share the same space as him. like father, like son, she thinks. she wonders when he'll think to float her, too, just for existing, just for being the embodiment of a rule being broken. ]
[ both jahas can survive serious injuries, almost like cockroaches, apparently. ]

It's common practice to make him feel guilty and Wells has spent a lifetime of building up tolerance to this, torn between being defensive and operating with compassion.
He remains grounded in this spot, watching Octavia out of the corner of his eye when he returns to his original position, watching the horizon line. ]
I'll stay quiet, [ he tells her without looking. ]
no subject
[ she doesn't want to stay and watch the horizon. she doesn't want to stay and consider watching the horizon with him. she doesn't want him being nice to her, tolerable of her own dismissiveness. she wants wells to get up and fight, to help her stave away her excess energy, to help her get rid of all the anger that bubbles inside of her because she can't face looking at herself in a shard of glass. ]
[ he had survived, and she's more than grateful for that. but there's too much hate in her heart for her to look at him with her vision clear. ]
[ she doesn't look at him. she has every intention of going for a walk, but she knows, with what a goodie two shoes he happens to be, the moment she walks away from him, he'll tell bellamy. so, she stays where she is, arms crossed heavily against her chest. she doesn't want to look at him, and, yet, she does. with a hard glare, her voice is sharp, almost a bark of an order: ] Or you could just leave.
no subject
He doesn't need to tell her that it's dangerous out here either, imagining that he would get an even more passionate response than Bellamy would if he said the same thing to his sister. ]
I just wanted to get away for a few minutes.
[ He does that often. Perhaps it's why he manages to remain as calm as he can, attempting to stay levelheaded when when the situation slowly descends into chaos. ]
no subject
[ sometimes she catches herself looking at wells and wondering if he thinks she's a broken law, someone worth being punished for for simply existing. it's her own self-hate that guides her into being sharp and mean toward him, refusing to acknowledge him as another human being, separate to chancellor jaha. ]
[ she bristles, but looks down, ashamed of herself. what she's doing to wells is how she thinks the council view her. she's a mistake, a broken law, someone who shouldn't exist, someone who has no right to for the oxygen she had been taking up while on the ark. ]
How's that working out for you? [ her voice is less biting, even if her arms remain crossed over her shoulders and her gaze focuses on the ground instead of acknowledging him. ]
no subject
It isn't right that she had to grow up barely living, but then again, the conditions on the Ark had become so stifling that if were he in that position, he isn't certain what he would do. The very thought irritates him, that he is uncertain, because he wants to be a good leader, though time on the ground has shown that while he does not spark fires like Bellamy or rally the troops like Clarke does, he offers good, helpful council.
Perhaps that is his place now, especially since he had momentarily been debilitated. ]
It's as good as it can be, [ Wells replies honestly. Nothing is ever easy. Without thinking, he rubs a hand over his bandages. ] It's just good to not be surrounded by so many people right now. And – [ he gestures outward. ] The view's nice.
no subject
[ her eyes follow his belatedly, head barely moving as she looks from the corner of her eye. the view's okay, but octavia's seen better. she looks back to him, jaw set, face guarded. she looks at him, gaze shifting from bandages to his own. ] Aren't you afraid of being alone? [ it's how charlotte had gotten him, after all. but octavia doubts anyone else would be able to lower wells' walls except for clarke, and sometimes octavia doubts even her ability to soothe any of his raised hackles. ]
no subject
I’m not alone, [ he finally replies. It does not answer her question, but he is still thinking on his response. No, he does not entirely trust either Blakes, but there is still no use in remaining hidden away in the drop ship, not helping or contributing to their mission on the ground. His voice remains low, but unwavering and serious in nature. ]
I don’t want to be afraid either.
[ He knows Clarke does not need him to be strong for her. He will do it for her, his father, and himself. ]
no subject
[ she tries to let it go, but octavia's so tired of the lies circulating around camp. looking back at him, she frowns. ] Do you really expect me to believe that? You're out here with me. [ they're not friends, not like he's supposedly friendly with a girl who can barely look him in the eye. being lonely is what pulls people to her, after all. ]
