Sunlight

The world can sometimes seem like a cold, wicked place, and more than likely, it actually is a cruel place. For days, months, years on end, you never catch a break, everything falling to pieces as soon as you pick it up. Maybe, despite this, you still try your hardest. There has to be a light at the end of the tunnel, doesn't there? The fates don't play favorites, so surely your number is about to come up. Or maybe you've given up and decided to allow yourself to barely float along with only bouts of anger or bitterness to keep you above water. There is no light anywhere, is there? But there is. There's one bright spot in your life - a person who makes everything worthwhile. It doesn't really matter how they came to you. What does is that they stay. Whether you admit it or not, you seek comfort from them...and, perhaps, them from you, if you're in the same situation. So, whether you push them away, treat them right, or go so far as to worship them and put them on a pedestal, you don't want them to go now. You crave being with them, or at least being in their presence. Don't ruin this for yourself. After all, what would you do without your little ray of light? You'll do anything to keep them happy and loved. Anything. Respond to the meme with your character, canon, preferences, and, if you'd like, what position you're character will be in. Respond to others.

How long? months? it’s easy to lose track; one job after another...the world doesn’t stop being broken no matter how many of the monsters he puts away. Always trying to drive itself over the cliff; why not just relinquish the wheel and let it? Lately, keeping his head above water takes everything he has and then some. That’s not going to change. Just...grit your teeth and keep fighting. Winchester family motto. Most of the time it’s about helping people; when things get really dark...it’s just about beating whatever gets thrown his way, greater picture be damned. Except...there’s her. That one thought that’s always in the recess of his mind; a glimmer of what could be. Knowing that someone might be waiting; it kept him from freezing solid, or ever letting one of those ugly sons of bitches tear out a piece that he wouldn’t be able to recover from.

Another mile marker in the rearview mirror; fatigue that crept into whatever soul he had left kept fading as the distance grew shorter. His hand started to dig through a ratty box; sight isn’t required to know what he’s searching for, he can feel each difference in the worn cassette tapes that makes them different. A second later and Led Zeppelin IV is in the deck; swelling, guitar driven riffs, a freight train of drums, overpowering, sweeping away the tendrils of fear that have been threatening to claim him. That she won’t answer; that she won’t care. Tapping to the beat is a form of distraction; this, swirling in the pit of his stomach, is the most that he’s felt in….long enough.

It doesn’t take long to get there; a place he shouldn’t. Maybe she’ll hear the low rumble of the impala’s engine; maybe she’ll just know...it doesn’t matter, coming this far, nothing could be left to chance. He’s always had that attitude; screw destiny. Glancing towards the bedroom that he knows is hers; a thought, fleeting, her sleeping form...porcelain skin, innocence and beauty, he has to dismiss it in order to maintain any kind of focus. A few swipes on his cellphone and her number is being called. “Come on...pick up…” Low words, spoken into the wind, eyebrows knitting together slightly. It’s about need as much as it is about want; that he could lose himself if he didn’t see her...every reminder of what it is to be human, to be alive, is contained in her lips, in her voice. Even if she didn’t answer; it wouldn’t matter...just, the desire for her to know that he’s outside, waiting.

Peter is probably not the sort of person that anyone would think would end up around the Varia, but it is what it is. It's home to someone that's never had a home, and not too very long ago had been sure that he didn't want one. He's a scruffy bad-mouthed teenager that drinks too much and that pretty much everyone considers worse than gutter trash. Gypsy piece of shit.

Xanxus doesn't try to hold him down, and so he always comes back here. Vanishes for a few days to feel the wind and the rain and the sun. He's never really had a pack before, but that's what this feels like.

Somehow he fits in here. He gets along with them, if that's what you call letting threats roll off of his skin like water and offering back glib replies like it's as easy as breathing. He doesn't like death, but it's in the blood on his hands and ashes of loss that choke him sort of way. They always come back safe, and that's what matters, even if Peter tries to pretend that it doesn't.

But there's a feeling inside of him. Something that doesn't feel quite right. A low rumble of discomfort that he can't quite place. He's never messed around with their rings; he has his fangs, what other weapons does he need? He can also feel the illusions that lay under the reality of the world, and when people twist them. And sometimes, like tonight, he just gets a weird sense about things.

And so, he's at Xanxus' door with the man's favorite whiskey and a pack of cigars that he knows he likes and a roguish smile curving his mouth into a lop-sided grin. It's all stolen, but Peter is a streetrat down to his core, to the marrow of his bones. If he's anything more than he is a wolf, it's an artist of fast fingers and careful diversions.

He knocks and doesn't wait for an answer before slipping inside. He's never had a glass thrown at his head (yet), so he maybe pushes boundaries further than he should. He's barefoot in beat-up jeans and a tee-shirt that slips off one slender shoulder as he wanders in casually. He never acts as if Xanxus could burn him to ashes, even if he knows the truth of it. He just trusts him, even when he knows it's maybe the most dumbshit decision in a long career of fucked-up stupidity.

"Hey." Peter is far from a stellar conversationalist, not when it matters, but he comes armed with bribes and hopefully that's good enough. It's the night before the full moon, too, which puts an itch in his skin, makes the human body he wears feel too small and too tight.
