[ it's the perfect spring day by anyone's standards-- the sun is shining on high, unobstructed by the clear sapphire sky, there's a light warm breeze and the only sounds that can be heard is the rustle of the long grass and the quiet gurgling of the river far in front of them. he'd taken her here to share a lunch with her, not because he's sentimental and not because he's going soft on the inside-- but rather, vash reasons harshly to himself, that it's symbolic.

just a peaceful moment shared on the bank where the borders of their two countries met together, and peace, he knew, was a commodity that was few and far between. he himself was unafraid of battle, of the scars and the smoke-- but he never wanted her to end up that way. he wanted her to wallow in the peace, in the sun's warmth and the birdsong, because he would always protect her and it'd just forever be that way.

[Fandral hadn't told anyone else of his trip to see Loki, even if his attitude had apparently soured to some extent. It was easy enough to blow Sif off as overreacting, much to her chagrin and the soreness of his jaw, but the likes of Hogun and Volstagg were different. Of course Hogun didn't really inquire as most did, the Grim giving him significant looks and short replies that pulled some guilt from him. Volstagg took him aside and asked about his lack of joviality, but he hadn't gone as far as to demand a proper answer.

It was exactly a week to the day he had first come that he now returned, this time without a trace of nervousness or even an out of place fidgeting. No, he was simply returning, and asking before anything else:]
