So maybe that was the answer.
"I've lived there for a while." Her voice was low and smooth, ineffably calm. As it was most all of the time.
There was only one thing to say before she pulled back onto the road. "Seatbelt."

"That's cool. I haven't lived any once place in a while. Few months here and there at most. Do you travel a lot? It looks like you live out of this thing. Not that there's anything wrong with it, just... there's a lot of stuff."
It was idle talk mostly. Something to fill the silence. But he was honestly curious. The vibe he got from the van was not the vibe he got from her.

Well, kind of. More like she'd waited until Greg was with Steven and had taken the van after leaving a Keystone pamphlet behind as a note about where she'd gone. That was the same as borrowing.
"He'll understand."

Awesome.
"So... have you known Greg long?" Please let them be dating please let them be dating...

Over a decade was a safe estimate. Such small time periods felt like blinks instead of years.

"Cool. So uh... why are you heading to Keystone? I'm not really heading there myself. Just passing through. But you seem like a woman on a mission."
He felt so awkward.

In the next moment he was smiling gently, "Well, that's really good of you. Not a lot of people try to fix the problems they make any more. Most of the people I've met just try to brush it aside and find excuses. It's easier, I guess, for some. I've never been able to live with the guilt, myself. Are your mistakes the kind you can use some help with? Or are they the kind you really should do alone?"

Which sounded odd, she knew. Humans just weren't used to that kind of thing. But there were only so many gems, and she didn't really want to talk to them at length about what had happened.

"Uh... I think you don't get scorch marks out of anything. You just sort of... replace it. And I'm not sure how to repair ice damage? Maybe just let it melt enough that it becomes water damage and repair that?"
no subject
It should've already melted. Unless Sapphire had been more thorough than she thought. She'd have to find out.
"And concrete to... redo."
