The Lotus Eater Machine Meme

Your character falls asleep, or is knocked out, and finds themselves in a dreamworld which is their own personal paradise.

However, this is a trap - And now, their friends have to come and wake them up!

Your character can be the Dreamer or the Dream-diver, who's trying to wake them up. Being the Villain who entrapped them in the first place, or a fellow slumberer trapped in the Dream is fine too.

[Sample Dream Scenarios]

1. It's pretty much the same as their real life, except that it's just a little bit sparklier and nicer then normal.

2. It looks close to their real life on the surface, but the sparkle factor is much stronger in this one - They're basically whatever they wanted to be, deep down inside. Maybe they wanted to be the smartest, or most popular, or most beautiful, or most talented person in their class, town or family? Well, now they will be!

3. It's a wish fulfillment fantasy, plain and simple - They wanted to be a pop singer or a movie star? Well, now they are!

4. Pull out all the stops - Want to be a King or a Queen, or maybe a Magical Girl? It doesn't matter how impossible it is in their real life - In this dream scenario, those wishes will all come true!

5. They wanted their father, mother or any other person important to them to say they were proud of them? They wanted to be considered to be better then their brother, sister, other family member or fellow student, etc etc etc? Those wishes have been granted - Too bad it's all a dream...

6. Be it the death of important people or something else, they bad thing that hurt them badly never happened - or even better, was averted at the last moment, in this dream scenario.

7. Something Else

[The Roles]

1. The Dreamer - Your character is the one trapped in the Dream World the Lotus Eater Machine is generating.

2. The Dream-diver - Your character is the one who is trying to save the person who's trapped in their dreams.

3. The Villain - Your character the one who trapped whoever it was in the Dream-world in the first place.

4. The Fellow Slumberer - Your character just happened to be trapped in the same Dream as the Dreamer is.

5. Something Else

[How To]

1. Post as your character. (Please write down the name and canon/fandom of the character in the subject line, and also if they're canon, AU, crossover or OC, etc.)

2. Please choose your character's role, and set the first scene. If they're the Dreamer, please describe the Dream they're trapped in.

3. The mun who's tagging choses their own roles for their own characters.

4. Tag, thread and have fun!

"Yes ... I thought the same." He shook his head. "I don't think it's Vahl either. But I know he has given Snake the power to teleport. Perhaps he has given him other powers, too? Or someone else?"

"I suppose we could ask him?" Janie suggested, after a long moment of silence

Julian nodded thoughtfully. He didn't like the thought or what he would find out, but he dreaded even more the possibility that this could happen again.

"Yes. Asking won't hurt. But I really hope I'm wrong. I don't want to imagine what Snake could do with such powers."

"I can't ask." Janie said "I- I still have nightmares, and I know it wasn't 'him', but... Could you ask him, please? And could you ask him something else for me?"

He felt instantly sorry for having brought up bad memories and thus nodded quickly.

"Yes, of course. What should I ask him?"

"I jus want to be sure that it wasn't him. That it's really safe to be around him."

Janie poured herself a glass of whiskey "That's a silly thing to ask, isn't it?"

"Maybe, but I can understand it very well. It's hard to believe that he is a completely different person now. And I'm not good at believing things anyway."

He took the bottle again, not bothering with a glass.

"I'll talk to him."

"Thank you."

She was silent again, as she watched her friend.

"Do you want to be in charge at work, until I come back, that is? All you would have to do is deny leave requests. I swear, all they do is request leave."

He looked up from his bottle, both surprised and flattered.

"I um ... suppose I can do that. If you give me instructions what to do in case anything else happens. Where are you going?"

"Call me if anything happens, but I doubt it will. I'm going to fix a few things and see some family."

She seemed a little evasive, though "I'll be there in less than a second if you need me for anything. I promise."

"Alright. I hope I won't have to bother you with it, though. I'll take care of things as good as I can."

Since there was obviously more to this, Julian eyed his friend a bit worriedly.

"You will come back, won't you?"

"I promised that I wouldn't abandon my friends, and I'm keeping that promise." She tried reassuring Julian

"There's things I have to do, and I don't know when I'll be done, but I'll come back. When I finish, I'll come back and shouldn't have to do anything away from home for a long time."

He nodded, relieved and trusting that Janie wouldn't lie to him.

"In this case, I wish you good luck with everything. If you need help, if you need anything, call me, alright? I'll come if you need me."

"Thank you, and I will... and if you need me, please call. Even if it's for something like an urgent picnic. Or killing vampires."

"Okay. I will do that. Seems like a good plan to me."

He smiled a bit and raised his bottle.

"I expect you to call me for an urgent picnic. I'll need the distraction" Janie grinned, though.

Julian returned the grin, that was something to look forward to.

"You know me. Expect many calls in that matter."
