The HOLY GRAIL WAR Meme

 

Seven Masters, magi of the present day. Seven Servants, heroes of days past.One Holy Grail, granting whomever claims it a wish. Only one team of Master and Servant may claim it.
Who will it be?
For those unfamiliar with Fate/Stay Night or Fate/Zero, you can find a better explanation of the Holy Grail War here. (Note: The Holy Grail War in Fate/EXTRA functions in a dramatically different way, and one not followed for purposes of this meme.)

Instructions
1. Comment with your character. In the subject line, put that character's name, canon, and which role (Master, Servant, or either) you would like them to fulfill. Though not mandatory, it would be preferred that you give a brief summary of your character as they will (most likely) be AU'd into the setting. (NOTE: If your character can fill the role of Servant, I suggest you state which class(es) -- Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, or Berserker -- they fall into.)
2. Reply to others' comments. Pick your character's role (and the other character's if they list "Either" as their preference), then use the RNG to pick a scenario that fits the two characters' roles.
3. Enjoy! Though there might be triggers, depending on how the prompts are interpreted.


TWO MASTERS

1. Battle. Who says that Servants get to have all the fun? After all, most Masters try to kill each other, too. Whatever the circumstances, the two of you are locked in a fight. Neither of you are willing to use your Command Spells just yet, so no Servants here. Just two magi duking it out.

2. Alliance. There's a bigger threat out there. Either one Servant is exceptionally powerful, or the situation has changed and the participants need to take action aginst it. One way or another, you're teamed up with one of your rivals for the Holy Grail. How long will this last before you try to stab each other in the back? Or, will something more develop?

3. Protection. Uh-oh! One of you has lost your Servant! Unfortunately, there's no way you'd get to the church safely on your own, so the other one will help you get there! Or maybe you don't trust the priest presiding over the Holy Grail War and are giving shelter to them yourself? Given their track record, no one would blame you.

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. You, Too? Surprise! You may have been friends before, but you've just discovered that you're both Masters! How will you handle this revelation?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!


MASTER AND SERVANT

1. Are You My Master? The summoning is complete. Whether intentional or not, catalyst or not, a magus has summoned a Servant. What kind of meeting was it? Was everything totally under control, or did a hitch occur? Or maybe it happened in the middle of a life-or-death situation!

2. Identity. Either the Servant has flat out told the Master their identity, or they unleashed their Noble Phantasm. Either way, the cat is out of the bag. How will the Master react, now that they know their Servant's name and legend? Will anything change between the two?

3. Battle Aftermath. A battle has just ended. Who participated? Are either of you hurt? Did the Master have to use a Command Spell? Any number of things could have happened here.

4. Discord. Uh-oh. It looks like the Master and the Servant don't get along. Here come the arguments! Don't do something stupid, like waste a Command Spell over a triviality...

5. Love. And then, there's the opposite. Sometimes Masters and Servants fall in love with each other. How will this affect things?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!


TWO SERVANTS

1. Battle. This is what usually happens when two Servants meet -- they duke it out. This probably says enough as it is.

2. Alliance. There's a bigger threat out there. Either one Servant is exceptionally powerful, or the situation has changed and the participants need to take action aginst it. One way or another, you're teamed up with one of your rivals for the Holy Grail. How long will this last before you try to stab each other in the back? Or, will something more develop?

3. The Grail Dialogues. Maybe you're not interested in fighting just yet. Maybe you just want to sit down and talk with the other Servant. Find out what they want, what makes them tick. Get some wine while you're at it -- nothing like good wine to go with good talk!

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying...again. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in this War in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. Identity. Congratulations, you've just learned each other's identities! Will this change the situation, or will you press onward?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!

I'll be all right. If you hear me yelling, I think you'll know to come running, right?

[Not exactly the most reassuring thing he could have said, that.]

...Right. Well, I'll be done soon. I did half the animals before I summoned you. Oh!

[She unwinds the knotted rope.]

He has some balls around here, somewhere, but he likes competing. He's sent me sprawling enough times that he'll probably enjoy an actual challenge.

[It's a testament to how much she's relaxed that she actually does leave, heading back towards the staff area once more.]

[axeatyourside]

[An actual challenge? Rider ponders if that's really true, and hefts the last of the meat out of the bucket. With his Master now gone, Rider feels safe sitting down on the floor, comfortable with the possibility that this would get him very much mauled.]

You've got a good friend there, you know that?

[leporiphobiac]

[Shishito chuffs dismissively, but warily moves in, taking the meat.

In the distance, there's the sound of a muffled crash, a pained yelp and then, faintly:]

I-I'm okay!

[Shishito settles down to eat the last of his meal, keeping one eye on Rider.]

[axeatyourside]

[At that crash, Rider turns his head, yelling in response:]

Are you sure?!

[A shrug follows, and Rider's attention goes back to Shishito.]

Lemme guess. Get used to that?

[leporiphobiac]

Y-Yes!

[He flicks the tip of his tail, almost like an answering shrug, and finishes his meat before lumbering to his feet.]

[axeatyourside]

[Well, at least he got a response. Rider'll take that, and he'll watch as the lion gets up.]

Would you rather I leave you be there, friend?

[leporiphobiac]

[Shishito stares at him for a long moment, staying very, very still.

In the distance, there's what sounds very much like a splash.]

...still—pfft—still fine!

[He goes for one end of the rope.]

[axeatyourside]

You can swim, right?!

[The rope is unexpected, but Rider rises to the challenge. This is a new experience, and he grips the other end of the rope firmly. A gentle tug on his end, just to let Shishito decide how rough this'll be.]

[leporiphobiac]

Of course I can!

[Can't care for aquatic animals without some basic swimming know-how, after all.

Shishito uses Rider's hesitance as an opportunity to yank hard on the rope, in a move that had always sent Hana sprawling.]

[axeatyourside]

Just checking!

[Rider stumbles with that yank, but he doesn't end up on the floor. Not yet. He does, however, slide across the floor before planting his feet down to yank back.]

[leporiphobiac]

[The lion seems a little impressed at that. A little impressed.

He wriggles back and plants down his paws, but skids along a foot or so before finding enough purchase to put up a fight.]

[axeatyourside]

[It feels like being back on the steppe. The rope could have easily been a branch, the lion replaced by...okay, no, still a lion. With another tug, Rider puts more of his strength into the gesture, showing off a fraction of the strength that being a Heroic Spirit entails.]

[leporiphobiac]

[Shishito gets dragged closer, but he fights for every inch.]

[axeatyourside]

[It's an unfair advantage, and Rider lets a little slack go on that rope.]

[leporiphobiac]

[The lion wastes no time scrabbling back, keeping the rope taut and straining every step of the way.]

[axeatyourside]

[Rider lets himself be dragged, feet sliding over the floor.]

You're going to want to change directions soon or you'll be up against a wall!

[leporiphobiac]

[For a moment, as Shishito cuts down on how hard he's yanking at that rope, it almost seems like he's taking Rider's advice to heart.

Almost.

However, Rider has gotten moved—maneuvered, even—enough that he's closer to the small watering-hole. Close enough, say, to go in if Shishito suddenly dropped the rope and darted forward, pouncing and sending them both into the water.

Which he does, because Shishito is not the sweetheart Hana likes to say he is.]

(heading to bed, will tag back in the morning!)

[Rider lands in the watering hole with a considerable splash. His hair's drenched, as is the rest of him, and his immediate reaction is, like all mature Heroic Spirits, is to splash all the water he can at Shishito.

Or at least try to.]

(sleep tight!)

[leporiphobiac]

[Shishito ignores the splashing, smugly swimming over to the side and clambering out, shaking out his coat and glancing back as if to say 'Ha, I win!']

...pfft.

[Hana re-entered the enclosure around the time she heard the initial splash. Her hair is damp and combed back, and she discarded her heavy overshirt since her black wifebeater would dry out much sooner. She folds an arm across her stomach and covers her mouth as laughter spills out.]

W-Well! I guess you two had fun...

[axeatyourside]

[Rider's picking himself out of the pool with Hana re-enters, leaning to the side and wringing out his wild mess of hair.]

Fun, and I got my ass kicked. Although -- [His eyes flick back to Shishito] That was a one time only win, buddy.

[leporiphobiac]

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Shishito likes to play dirty.

[She would know. She shakes her head and straightens up.]

Speaking of dirty, did you want to head over to my place for a proper bath?

[axeatyourside]

Oh, I'll dry off just fine here. It isn't like the water was particularly dirty.

[leporiphobiac]

Still, there's hot water and soap if you change your mind.

[She doesn't know if Magic Heroes get sick. she doesn't think so, but it never hurts to be careful, in her experience. On a similar not—]

Also... Is there anything you can't eat?

Noted.

[Mostly, Rider wasn't keen on bathing back in Sumeria. No reason to start that now, in his estimation.]

And not that I'm aware of. Of course, there's probably a lot more food here that I've never even tasted before.
