It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they? i n s t r u c t i o n s • Post with your character (note the name and fandom in the subject). • Other people reply to you by generating a number from 1 to 10. • Have fun! o p t i o n s 01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet. 02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops. 03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it. 04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them... 05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort. 06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help? 07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on. 08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them. 09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you. 10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario.

[New York, Rumple decides rather quickly as he carefully eases himself down the steps of the bus, leaves much to be desired. It's only his second visit, under circumstances no better than the first - that is to say, desperate and already he's sick of the noise, the people thronging to and fro. He feels unsteady, almost seasick just watching them through the window of the bus as he'd been driven by. He grips the head of his battered, second-hand cane tighter to steady himself on the sidewalk. Now that he's here, he realizes that he doesn't really have anywhere to go.]

[He wanders, aimless, slowed by the worsening ache in his crippled leg. He doesn't have any friends here. Oh, he knows people, certainly, but not anyone who would care to have him suddenly drop in on them, no one who would welcome his company. Especially not so late in the evening. He walks for as long as his leg will allow, getting lost in the bustle of it all, trying to think.]

[When he finally stops, glancing around, trying to get his bearings, it's already dark. It's late enough now that there are roars of unencumbered laughter, drunk and raucous, intermingling with the general street noise that never seems to dissipate even in this late hour. It puts him in mind of a tavern he'd once wandered into, of a pirate and a woman's too loud laughter and he has to shake himself out of the thought, looking around for something familiar, something distracting.]

[He spots a plaque beside a reinforced door that reads Nelson and Murdock and pauses. This could be useful. The place is run down enough to be promising, everything crumbling away except for the newly minted sign that seems to hint at something hopeful, at newness. Perhaps even naivety. This could well be Rumple's lucky day. He's certainly due for one.]

[Office hours ended hours ago but, fortunately for Rumple, there's still a dusky orange light shining through one of the dirty windows, just barely bright enough to be seen from the outside. He takes it as an invitation and, after testing the door and finding it unlocked, lets himself in. Leaning heavily on his cane, letting the rubber tip thump more loudly than necessary against the carpet to announce his presence, he raps his knuckles against the frosted window of the office door and waits.]

[ Without the other Avengers around, their new headquarters is alarmingly quiet. There's something missing, and more than that, Steve thinks it's because the team is pulling at the seams with how badly they'd patched themselves up after Ultron. Still, he doesn't leave Wanda, and as there's next to nothing about the Winter Soldier anywhere, he waits and doesn't sleep and spends a lot of time with the guys working security. Yet, that's not even possible some nights, and he winds up in one of the rec rooms at a table with a book he's mostly not giving attention to. It's late, though technically almost early enough to go running. He's waiting for the right excuse to get started, pushing himself to his feet and redirecting to his own room.

Steve rounds the corner, steps quiet, and he notices her almost immediately. It's the same hallway, the same window that he's come to associate as a meeting place of sorts for them. He moves so she hears him, the hint of a smile there as he steps up beside her and immediately takes to looking out at the darkness lit up by the soft glow of perimeter lights. ]

Can't sleep? [ If so, that would make two of them. ]

It wasn't actually 'patrolling' if you had no intention of keeping an eye out for things. Kirk walked the corridors of his ship in the odd hours of simulated night. An abundance of the pent up energy that he would normally bleed out with reckless and mostly harmless pursuits. And there were only so many times he could ask Sulu to teach him some of those badass fighting techniques before it became obvious that the Captain's dignity was taking a hit every time he found himself landing like a sack down on the padded floor of the exercise room. He would give it another week or so for the recent bruise to face before badgering his helmsman into another bout.

So. Walking. Wandering really.

Though he tried to look like he had a destination in mind, as that usually made the ensigns seem less worried in the dead hours. No cause for concern. Really. Jim offered a tired grin to those poor souls who were awake with him.

[Robots don't breathe. They don't move like human beings either, messing up his perception and anticipation, slowing him down. They're also harder to beat up than people with skin, soft tissue and pain reception. He manages to crush about half a dozen bots before he is overwhelmed by numbers and unfamiliarity of battling non-human opponents.

Matt decides he doesn't like robots very much.

He should rest. Get some sleep or at least meditate, regain his strength and start working on an escape plan. Instead, he paces the front of his cell, one hand brushing the bars as he listens intendly to the bustling activity outside. Where are they coming from? What do they want? The unanswered questions keep him up even more than the pain (the anger) and he listens for something, anything, to clue him in what caused the world to suddenly descend into such chaos.]

He'd only picked at his dinner which meant that by the time he finally wanted to try and get some sleep he was left with a gnawing ache in his belly. Enough that he laid awake in bed for the better part of an hour before he finally gave up and headed for the kitchen. Surely there was something he could snack on and then go the hell to sleep.

Of course, preferring not to be noticed on his midnight foray, he didn't turn on any lights. Normally that wouldn't be a problem but tonight someone just had to leave a hall table just enough out of its normal place that Jack barked his shin on it. "Shit!" he hissed.

Which then had him closing his eyes and mentally cursing as he paused to listen for any movement in the nearest room. Maybe Michelle hadn't heard him?
