OTHERWORDLY.

Otherwordly Meme

Sometimes all you need is a word to spark off an idea.

1. Post a comment with your character's name, canon, and any preferences you may have (no shipping, no smut, etc.)

2. Leave the comment blank or post a word or two in the body.

It may also help if you list scenarios you would like to play.

3. Reply to other people, either with words you picked out, or words they posted as prompts for a thread.

"Is that why I'm here?" she asks, coy, a twinkle in her eye. She runs her finger through Hwin's mane before patting her neck affectionately.

"I thought I was here to woo you."

"You've surely done quite well if I'm the one kneeling at your feet, then."

Certainly enough to please her parents, he hopes. Possibly enough to please the counselors he would have to bring his own thoughts to quite soon, he suspects.

It's easy to swing up onto Destrier without any assistance, nodding forward as he urges his mount instantly into a light trot. "With me, then."

She laughs as Hwin follows the king without Jeyne having to nudge her along. She hopes that she has indeed wooed him, and that his kneeling was not just to be polite.

"In that case it is a good thing that I accepted your assistance and not the other gentleman. Otherwise rumors might spread about us!"

That brings another cheerful laugh to his lips as he glances back toward her again.

"Should you have stayed, if you found yourself in such a scandal?"

He doesn't seem to quite agree it might have been, of course. It feels lovely to tease this comfortably.

"Oh certainly not. Though I don't think I could abandon Narnia entirely... I would have been forced to flee into the forest and live as a fugitive." It would be easier for her family to deal with her disappearance than the shame, certainly. And she would have no shortage of enjoyment living freely.

"Until you found me, of course. Because a man as noble as yourself would never stand by and let an innocent woman's reputation be ruined."

"Thank goodness you've begun to make friends with the potamides, then." His glance back over his shoulder now hopefully indicates the rivers more than the trees. "They've always been champions of women. I'm certain they would take good care of you until I could find you again."

Because he absolutely would. He can't see a way around it. Even if she wouldn't be his queen, he couldn't see stopping himself from running to assist her.

"Thank goodness indeed." Her aim is to make friend with everyone she can. She is overjoyed to hear that this goal is a wise one already.

"I can just imagine how I would look by the time you found me. Leaves in my hair... probably leaves everywhere!" And hopefully some semblance of clothing.

"They might not let you take me back."

She looks lovely with her hair twined in these braids. She looks compelling with her dress in this style. Caspian still can't help giving her an appraising look and lifting his shoulders a touch helplessly.

"You should like even more a princess of Narnia, my Lady."

They all came a bit wild around the edges here.

"I would?" She is surprised by this. Royalty is royalty, regardless of the country. She can't imagine any court would approve of its regents looking like a wild creatures.

"In that case, I shall have to make you a crown of leaves to wear. So that you can fit in with the rest of us."

"How infinitely kind of you."

And how bright his laughter continues to be, even as he urges Destrier into a faster trot. He trusts Hwin will follow, and that Jeyne will have the wits to hold on tight.

Giving horses a chance to run nearly at free will is part of the royal Narnian legacy as well, after all.

Warily Jeyne allows Hwin to pick up her pace as well. If she were riding normally she would have no trouble keeping up, but sidesaddle is an entirely different story. Her ability to balance is compromised by having to keep her legs together on one side of the horse and twist her torso to stay facing forward. If she loses hold of her gown it will most certainly get tangled in Hwin's legs.

Keeping pace may not be possible, once they're out of the woods and into the stretch of valley they'll ride through to Beruna. The King has particular affection for the town, after all; it's difficult to keep him from letting Destrier follow his instincts to gallop at full tilt.

Hopefully she won't mind her escort being taken up by Drinian for a spell; at least until they can reach the market town at a properly reasonable pace.

An unspoken agreement arises between Jeyne and her horse. Though the king heads out at a near sprint, they follow at a much more reasonable pace. There is something undeniably attractive about watching Caspian ride. Even within the confines of his duties he's managed to find a moment of freedom, and it's clear that both he and Destrier are enjoying ever second of it. She smiles, more than a bit wistful, and waves when the king at last slows to turn and check on the rest of his entourage.

It isn't quite the same as standing in the breeze on the open sea, but it's enough to have the king flushed and beaming when he reins the warhorse beneath him.

The swarm of citizens is just as instantaneous here as it had been in the forest, but this time likely much less overwhelming. There are a scattering of Talking Beasts living in Beruna, yes, but by and large the town is inhabited by Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve. Surely it will be a much easier group for Jeyne and her parents to handle without confusion--which is fortunate, given how quickly Caspian becomes swallowed up by cheerful children and cooing grandmothers as he swings off Destrier's back.
ladyjeyneofthecrag: (oh really?)

[personal profile] ladyjeyneofthecrag 2015-07-07 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
By the time Jeyne catches up to him, the crowd has completely enveloped Caspian. To see the joy on the children's faces to be in the presence of the king makes Jeyne smile. She pulls Hwin to a gentle halt and waits for assistance getting down.

"You're very popular," she comments, noting how easily he blends in with his people. His clothes are the only thing that set him apart, and even they are not overly grand compared to the throng around him. It would be easy for him to disappear into the masses.

[personal profile] navixator 2015-07-07 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's impossible to pull himself away. He'll only have a few glances to spare for Jeyne, most of his smiles reserved for the little ones tugging without fear at his tunic hem and sleeves.

"I don't know about that." Not that he's easily able to refute it, particularly when the mothers and fathers who come to sweep their children away seem to insistent on clutching his arms and hands first on their own. "This is where the war was won. I think it's as much that as anything."
ladyjeyneofthecrag: (laughing)

[personal profile] ladyjeyneofthecrag 2015-07-07 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The young man from earlier comes to Jeyne's aid, and as she settles herself and releases her dress, a chorus of ooh's and aah's rings out from the crowd. Ah, yes, the train. She'd have forgotten if it wasn't so heavy to carry around. As soon as Hwin can extricate herself from the situation, Jeyne is surrounded by little girls, many with their mothers in tow, wanting to see it up close.

Jeyne has a witty retort in mind that never comes out, as she is swept up in speaking with the crowd. It is instinctive to kneel down to the children's level to speak to them, learning their names, letting them touch the delicate fabric. And while they marvel and giggle, she is looking them over, satisfied that they are all healthy and well-fed. Not even a case of the sniffles that she can see. That makes her very happy.

[personal profile] navixator 2015-07-08 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
They likely won't be able to speak much while in Beruna. There are too many calls on the King's attention. There's too much curiosity about the visiting Lady he's brought along riding beside him.

But it's impossible for Caspian not to catch glimpses of her now and again. It warms his heart beyond compare to see her laughing with the children, speaking sweetly with the crush of fascinated inhabitants.

She belongs here. The more he sees her here, the more certain he is.

Jeyne's parents join her in the crowd, and the Narnians around them enjoy showing the visitors aspects of their land that cannot be found anywhere else. Jeyne finds herself periodically looking for Caspian, occasionally catching him already looking at her with a smile on his lips.

The way he shares himself with his people endears him even more to her. He is unlike the kings of Westeros, who sit on their throne and only share their counsel with their closest advisors. Caspian is a man of the people, and they are people apparently as open and welcoming as she could have hoped for.

After nearly half an hour she can see that her parents are beginning to tire. They do not have the youthful energy of her daughter. She escorts them back to their horses, bidding a fond farewell to those still lingering nearby. The children whine but are placated by a promise that she will return soon. She will keep the promise regardless of what happens with the king.
