The 'We're Stranded' Meme

THE ‘WE’RE STRANDED’ MEME

You’re stranded it’s as simple as that. Maybe you were on your way to a nice relaxing holiday, a business trip or maybe you were just on your way home. Whatever the case, it doesn’t look like you’re going to be reaching your destination any time soon. You’re stuck and all you can do is to try and survive until help arrives. If help ever does arrive. Well, at least you’re not alone. No, there’s someone here stranded with you. Maybe you know them, maybe they’re a complete stranger or maybe they were stranded here long before you. Whoever they are you’re going to have to work together to get out of this mess.

What you do to survive and what happens to you is up to you. Do you search for food, do you try and find any signs of human life, do you have a run in with the locals or the local wildlife or do you just close your eyes and hope someone finds you. Whatever happens good luck.

RULES

  • Comment with your character, canon, preferences and any ideas you might have
  • It might be useful to note whether you want the interaction to be between two strangers or if you’re okay with any assumed cr
  • Feel free to set up your own scenario in your initial comment to give taggers something to work with or just leave your comment blank
  • Pick a scenario that catches your eye or use trusty old RNG
  • Reply to others!

WHERE ARE YOU STRANDED?

  1. On an island – You’re stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. There’s no phone or radio signal and there are no signs of life (that you can see). It could be a huge island with a dense forest in the center or it could be a small, sandy island with sparse vegetation cover. It’s up to you.
  2. In the jungle – One minute you’re making your way along a jungle trail and the next minute you’re completely lost. You have no idea where you are, you have no idea which way to go and all you can see around you is trees and more trees. Have fun in the jungle. Look out for the wildlife and any local tribes
  3. In space – The sci-fi option. For some reason you were in space. Maybe you’re inside a ship stranded in the middle of nowhere or stranded in the middle of some kind of asteroid field. Or maybe you were outside of your space shuttle and now you’re stranded with no way to return. Let’s hope your oxygen supply doesn’t run out
  4. Open Water – Maybe you were simply out for a swim and the current was too strong, pulling you out to sea. Maybe you were diving and after resurfacing you’ve realized you have absolutely no idea which way is land and your boat is nowhere to be seen. Or maybe it’s a Titanic-type situation and your ship has sunk. Better get your life jacket ready.
  5. High in the air – Maybe you’re trapped in a ski lift high above the ground just like the movie Frozen. Maybe you were on a roller-coaster or a Ferris wheel and the rides malfunctioned. Or maybe you’re just stuck at the top of a really, really high mountain or cliff. Whatever the situation you better not be afraid of heights!
  6. Inside an elevator - This one is pretty self-explanatory. You were in an elevator, the elevator stopped and now you’re stranded inside the small space, probably with a bunch of people you don’t know until help arrives.
  7. A cave – Maybe you had planned to explore the cave system or maybe it was a spontaneous event but you went inside and now you’re stranded with no way out.
  8. The middle of nowhere – This can cover any landscape really: a mountainous area, a desert, the middle of the countryside, a tundra area. Whatever the landscape there’s no signs of human life anywhere. You’re stranded.
  9. Wild Card! – Don’t like any of the options given? Come up with your own scenario!

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

  1. Extreme weather! - You're caught in a blizzard or a thunderstorm.
  2. Searching for food/supplies!
  3. Setting up a camp/shelter from the rain
  4. Coming into contact with (possibly dangerous) locals/local wildlife
  5. Calling for help
  6. Trying to find a place with better signal
  7. Just generally freaking out
  8. Trying to come up with a plan
  9. An obligatory smut option
  10. Wild Card! – There are so many options and so many things you could do in this situation. Use your imagination!

[Hello! Do you have a specific scenario you'd like with Lapis? I can write something up to make whatever work but I figure I'd throw you a line anyways!]

[ooc; taking a few au liberties lmfaoo...]

[Being stranded on an island was not the worst thing to happen to Lapis. Truthfully if she really wanted to leave it wouldn't have taken much effort at all, what with her ability to swim deep under water or fly far away - no, she was here mostly of her own free will and she liked to keep it that way. The island proved to be a nice respite from the hectic life that humans seemed to carry with them everywhere and the peaceful sound of the ocean lapping at the beach sands weren't interrupted by the chirping of tourists laughing and talking.

No, this was nice. Even if she was 'stuck' here with the warp pad cracked and nothing to fix it with. It would be awhile before anyone could come for them.

Lapis sat up in a lush tree with drooping green vines that had sprouted pink blossoms along its lines. She held one between her fingers, studying the petals curiously. The sun shone on overhead, but it was clear in the distance rain clouds were headed their way.]

["Nice" was not the word Peridot tended to use when discussing their current situation. Lapis may've taken to the isolation and the idyllic, natural beauty of their new "home," but Peridot was basically the extraterrestrial equivalent of someone panicking now that they couldn't get cell reception. She tended to spend a lot of time at the broken warp pad, poking and examining it, even though she'd correctly identified the problem (that gigantic crack in it) on day one.

Her stubborn refusal to accept that they weren't going anywhere for a while was impressive on some level, but it had its limits. With a defeated sigh, she turned away from the pad and trudged out of the clearing it was situated in. She spotted Lapis sitting up in one of the trees. The other gem's attitude towards all of this bugged her a little, but . . . well, maybe she was all right as company otherwise.]

What're you doing up there?

[Not helping, that was what!!!]

[ur darn right she isn't helping :)

Lapis looks down to where Peridot now stood glaring up at her, quirking an eyebrow at the sight of her. She touches the blossom to her cheek and glances back towards the encroaching dark clouds in the distance.]
Enjoying the view. You should try and join me. [Looking back to her again.] The warp pad won't fix itself if you keep poking at it you know.

"Try and join you"? Not all of us can fly, you know. And speaking of which, maybe if someone would help me search this stupidly overgrown island for other gem facilities, I could do more than just poke at it.

[Peridot had accepted, grudgingly, that Lapis was in no mood to just fly off the island in search of help. Her (slightly desperate) theory that there must be other gem tech stowed away somewhere on the island she had more trouble letting go of. Surely that's why the warp pad was here in the first place, right?]

You could climb up. Do you want me to show you how? [She shrugs with a half smile and shifts so that her legs are hanging over the side of the tree branch she's sitting on. She leans over and peers down at the very peeved gem.]

And what if there isn't anything else on this island? [A pause.] Except for, you know... large beasts and and oddly shaped fish.

[Peridot runs some quick mental calculations on which of these options would be the least embarrassing. She's not exactly the most . . . physical of gems, but she can manage this much, surely.] I can make it on my own.

[And so she does, gouging little handholds in the bark with her fingers. It . . . takes her a while, and she almost loses her grip a couple of times, but she eventually hauls herself up onto the branch next to Lapis.]

And if there's really nothing here of any note, then . . . ugh, I don't want to think about it! This was supposed to be easy, quick. I was supposed to be back home by now.

[She watches Peridot make her way up the tree and a few times almost moves to help her when she visibly seems to struggle with the task, but she knows any efforts would irritate the other gem. So she keeps her hands to herself and moves to make a space for Peridot to sit.

Lapis looks back out towards the ocean, the breeze ruffling her hair and hums thoughtfully. Home... ]
We'll be fine, Peridot. It's not like we'll be trapped here for thousands of years so there's nothing to worry about. [She'd end up carrying Peridot back with her to the mainland eventually. When she felt like it. She leans back over the branch, her hands on the wood keeping her perched securely.] Until then we might as well get comfortable, right?

[personal profile] terriblesnackfoodofspace 2015-05-06 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I think your idea of "comfortable" is different from mine. [But fine. Fine!! She slumps down a bit, propping her chin in one robo-hand. Her attention lingers on the scenery for a bit. It's . . . pretty? She supposes? In the abstract? It'd look better with all the trees replaced by a nice high-tech metropolis, though.]

[Her eyes turn from the island to Lapis.] Do you actually like it here?
waterwings: (15)

[personal profile] waterwings 2015-05-06 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think a lot of my ideas are completely different from yours. [Don't be a wet rag, Peridot.

She doesn't say anything right away to her question, sighing quietly as she stares off into the distance a moment longer.]
... Yeah. Sort of? It's peaceful in a way and... it reminds me of home. [She pauses, frowning slightly. The dark clouds in the distance roll closer towards them and Lapis takes that as a cue to start moving off the branch.]

Well I guess it's time we find some shelter - unless you don't mind getting rained on.

[Being the totally sane practical one is not the same as being a wet rag! But speaking of wet, ugh. Weather. Who even likes weather?]

Maybe this is what home was like when you left, but not anymore. And I do mind. Ugh. I think there was a cave near the warp pad. [Wasting no time, she starts to climb down, every bit as hesitantly/clumsily as she'd come up.]
waterwings: (03)

[personal profile] waterwings 2015-05-07 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
[No, it's definitely the same as being a wet rag. And Lapis does! Especially the wet kind.

Ignoring Peridot's reply, Lapis decides to jump the rest of the way down from their spot in the branches. Her water wings help to make it a graceful landing and disappear the moment she touches grass again. After a moment she looks back up to a struggling Peridot.]

... If you like I could help you down.
