[Gods, he was so embarrassed right now. You weren't supposed to hear this, Tywin. In the future, he'll make sure not to get drunk and sent stupid messages.]
As long as my daughter is happy, then I will be happy. [But, he thinks she's too young to know any different. Her darling prince Joffrey is an arrogant prick in Ned's eyes.]
[ Say, is that the Rains of Castamere playing? What a catchy tune— Hey, don't worry about it, everything's cool. For now.]
you and i are very different men. i wouldn't place a similar importance upon the happiness of my children, individually. perhaps because my children have selfish desires. i care very deeply for my family, but care for their well-being is not care for what each of them might personally want. like as not, the two conflict.
tyrion wants the impossible. cersei and jaime have achieved exactly what they wanted as children. the wishes they told their mother: he would be a knight and she would be queen. if the reality of their dreams has failed to meet their expectations, that is their problem, not mine.
I have no intention in giving you a lecture, Lannister. [Did the man ever not take offence?]
It seems your son and daughter are quite the demanding pair. Not all dreams can become reality, my lord. What of the boy, Joffrey? Do you believe he is old enough to understand what being a king means?
at least you speak the truth about Joffrey. I fear my Sansa has high hopes of young Joffrey and that they will be dashed once she finds out what he's really like.
[He doesn't agree with the betrothal at all.]
perhaps the Queen should have disciplined him better. That or Robert should have given the lad a good clout when he needed one.
1.
oh crap.
[Yeah sure, Ned.]

[ Which is something Tywin would still blame Ned for, at the end of the day. ]

[He wasn't about to lie. That wasn't his style.]

my daughter did mention something to that effect.
no subject
The Queen? [Shit.] May I ask what she said?
no subject
what she said with regard to the king's drinking, or what she said about something else in particular?
[ Dodging the question unhelpfully; possibly because Ned called him an arsehole, possibly because he is an arsehole. ]

the queen spoke fondly of lady sansa.

Did she now? This didn't happen to be about Joffrey, did it?

Robb's not going to be ready for it. ]yes, in fact, it did.
she sought my approval of the match, and i gave it.

joffrey is an ungrateful little shit. he has no aptitude whatsoever for kingship, and the blame for that lies equally with cersei and robert.
however, he is my blood, it is his birthright, and worse kings have sat upon the iron throne.
