[ it's almost overload, the celebration — it feels like everything's finally reached the tipping point and they're in a free-fall. or it does to bellamy, anyway. judging by how naturally the celebration came together, he's sure he isn't the only one glad to have clarke back. the whole camp feels alive again, vivid and in color, and bellamy's cheeks ache with the strain from smiling more than he has in weeks ( months ). it's ridiculous, maybe, given all that's happened, all they've done, but he's willing to glean what he can from this, bleed it dry because god knows when they'll have another moment like it.

which is why he follows clarke away from the celebration a few minutes after she's slipped away, mood mellowed, but posture relaxed. he gives her space, though, stops a few feet away, his eyes tracing the outline of her in the dark. it's quieter here, something that brings her return more into focus, sharper with an edge. ]

A little overwhelming, huh? Guess it drives it home how much everyone's missed you, Princess. [ how much he's missed her, in reality, but bellamy has a feeling he doesn't need to give voice to that. it's obvious with the way he's stayed within her orbit all evening, he thinks. ]

[An undercover mission is not the best assignment for Captain America, at least when Captain America is actually in America. But Steve has been outsourced all the way to Germany for this particular mission, where he won't be as readily recognized, though he doesn't have the kind of support that SHIELD had once afforded him.

(Not that he wants it. Not now that he knows where it came from. He wishes he could undo all of that. Every time that he considers just how many HYDRA members he worked alongside, he wants to take a shower.)

In fact, HYDRA is the reason that they're here. It seems to be the reason for everything these days. The search for Bucky has only led to dead ends so far, and even Steve can only put up with so much before he needs a different outlet to set his head straight again. Besides, taking out all of the HYDRA stragglers that they come across could lead them to Bucky too, if the scattered trail he's left is anything to go by.

To be honest, Steve's German is rusty, but so long as he sticks with Maria, they shouldn't have to mingle too much. All they're here for is to keep an eye on their target so that they can track him once the gala is over. He's been impossible to pin down otherwise, and his public appearances are few and far between, so this is the one chance that they have.

Dinner comes first, and while Steve doesn't shy away from eating his fill, he regrets it somewhat when the music starts and everyone gets up to dance.

And he means everyone. If they stayed seated it would be suspicious. Steve glances over at Maria, straightening out the collar of his suit as he musters up a sheepish smile.]

You may have to lead. I never really learned how to dance.

[ Foggy swore off another all-nighter, but! For his most beloved and attractive compatriots in justice, he left the gift of alcohol and.... more alcohol? And hey, a Spotify subscription, which thus far has been 1) listed as a company expense and 2) thus far only been used for evil, a.k.a. hair metal more suited to what Karen imagined their shared college dorm room was like, not living in the reality of their actual honest-to-god law office.

Which is how the evening finds the remaining members of the prestigious Nelson & Murdock firm four or five drinks deep and poking through for something, anything that isn't Brett Michaels' glorious bandana-ed hair and head voice that brings Karen's forthcoming hangover approach that much faster.

She might have an agenda emerging from a booze-fogged head, but it's a good one! Matt's got Byronic hero written all over him, he needs a night off. Or a few hours, you know? One song? One hand tugs his suit jacket sleeve while the other pokes at Spotify. ]

[ He doesn't normally hang around the diner after hours, it looks a little suspicious to find the sheriff loitering about the establishment while Ruby closes it down, but it's been such a good night that Graham finds himself not quite ready to go home. There is something nice about sipping his coffee watching as bounces slightly to the jukebox. It feels so painfully normal and wonderful. Like a feeling he was missing, but didn't know it until now.

After awhile of just watching, which seems to be exactly what Ruby wants him to be doing, an idea strikes him. With a small smile he slides out of his booth so he can lean across the counter right next to where she is counting down the till. ] Do you wanna dance?

It hadn't been until she was there that she learned more about them and finally agreed with their cause.

...their cause was one thing, but this gathering that had come up due to the nobles of Orlais... dancing? Socializing? Now of all times... what girl didn't like a party, but not like this. Let them celebrate this all ending, not to keep the nobles interested in the cause.

It couldn't be helped though, so there she was, Circle robes in good repair and watching people speak and dance. She'd been sent, by message, to seek out the Commander, a man she knew from Kirkwall...or rather recognized, for at the time mages rarely knew Templars.]

Commander. [Her smile, unlike the silly tittering of noble women nearby, only showed a slight uncertainty.] I don't suppose I could speak with you?

[Though being taken to the Circle in Kirkwall had solved some of her uncertainty, the situation now had replaced no small portion of it. Still, if she trusted a Templar, former or not, it was this one. She could've been asked to speak to someone else after all.]

[ before matt, claire hasn't really been in contact with anyone practising law very often. in her neighbourhood, people try to avoid contact with law enforcement and everyone involved with the justice system, and claire's kept herself on the straight and narrow, which also means she's largely kept her head down.

so she never thought about it, never realised that apparently the bar association of new york throws balls for those practising in the state of new york — which includes foggy nelson and matt murdock, avodados at law. she's surprised, too, when matt asks her to be his plus one for the event. apparently, foggy is taking karen as his, because marci is getting her own invitation of course. (claire has no idea who marci is, but she files the information away anyway.)

maybe it's stupid, saying yes. no, scratch that: it's definitely stupid, because she could fall in love with matt so easily and that's a terrible idea for so many reasons. she still says yes, though, because that she could fall in love with him also means that there's — a certain amount of longing already in place.

and no matter what his capabilities, they're in public and he's not wearing a mask, so he actually acts like a blind person for the evening. it's a little strange, if only because she's never seen him with a cane in hand before. he leaves the cane at the table when he asks her to dance, a slow song that won't require much actual dancing, though, with a joking you'll have to lead, of course.

it's stupid and it's dangerous, and claire still winds her arms around his neck anyway and fits her body close to his as they sway at the edge of the dance floor.

and — she doesn't want to destroy the mood, ruing the evening, but she has to know: ] Why did you ask me here tonight, Matt?
