There's no loyalty like that of a pet.

| >> premise | |
| Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a conscientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be. The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapiens. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed. Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human. So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master! |

| Needless to say, The Care and Keeping of Your Pet is a bit biased and full of propaganda, but it gives a good idea of the world your character is now AU's into. They are either a pet person or a human master, and what that means for them varies. So are they a devoted pet or a rebellious animal person looking to buck the system? A generous master or a cruel sexual sadist? Just a normal pet owner? Most likely they're something in between, but when you're raised in this world, it's difficult to see anything different on the horizon. Rules

As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!

As a pet a black cat that loves to rub up along her master. She mostly keeps to herself due to her past, but when you get to know her she's a very loyal pet who will defend her master.

Gieve likes windows, because they let him see the world outside the room or house he's in. It's a good way to keep an eye on who comes and goes, and to tell if danger is approaching. Looking out windows has saved his life more than once. Plus, he likes the big outside world, with all its wonders and many things to see and even more things to steal. Granted, it has gotten him into trouble sometimes, but he has not judged any of those instances as more trouble than whatever treasure he has taken is worth this far. Watching from a window rather than being outside, on an evening like this, though, makes him glad he has a place to use for cover. He has taken refuge as a person's pet before, but not someone quite so young or... male. Or energetic. Almost too energetic.
From his perch in a window on the second floor, Gieve has good view of the road, but is fairly invisible from the outside, thanks to the curtain that is partly hiding him. He secretly makes it a point to avoid being seen by people passing by, because you never know who might be connected to whoever is looking for him this time.
He keeps his gaze on the rain-wet asphalt and watches for shadows hiding outside of the light from windows and lamp posts, tail twitching slightly as he sees someone approach, and ears moving toward any sounds they might catch. But he's focused more on what's on the other side of the glass, and not as much on what is on the same side of it. The people living in this house is somewhere, but it doesn't really matter, since he doesn't care much for them. They're just a means to an end, and nothing else.

He creeps along the hallways of his own home, bare feet barely padding against the ground, using every inch of his (secret) assassination training to approach without being discovered. Because he has a wonderful surprise to share.
"You sure love looking outside," Yamamoto whispers into the big cat's ears when he's close enough. The heat radiates from the beautiful animal's body; hugging him on cold nights has become something of a habit, and they've only been together for a short time. Still, it's been long enough to give Yamamoto ideas. He slides one arm around Gieve's body and pulls him in for a loose hug, his free hand reaching into the pocket of his hoodie to draw out the surprise. All he needs is to create a distraction. The smile on his face comes through in his words, "Ah, maybe you're desperate to go pee?"
Turning the conversation to something embarrassing provides enough cover. Those slender fingers of his work fast while he talks, looping the soft end of a collar through the metal clasp and feeding it along, making sure it won't be too tight when he seals it shut. Which he does in an instant. A silver bell hangs from the front of the collar, one that'll jingle playfully whenever Gieve moves. But there's more than that - a metal disc which reads if you find me, please call followed by Yamamoto's cellphone number also hangs from the collar.
"I bought you a collar," he says with the most carefree laugh, taking a couple steps back to see how it looks. The run of blue material is beautiful, complimented by Gieve's natural charm. The silver catches the light quite nicely. But the best part is the clasp itself; Yamamoto doesn't know how, he didn't listen to the explanation at the pet store, but pets are unable to remove their collars. Probably a security thing. Only a human can unfasten the collar, and even then it must be the human who put the collar on in the first place. No way he's explaining that just yet though. "Check it out in the mirror!"
He points - energetically, of course - to the mirror hanging on the wall.

as an owner, he'd probably be really sweet and affectionate, but maybe a little overzealous for the pet/owner bond to occur, so he could maybe come off a little pushy.
as a pet, he'd look like himself, but he'd have the ears and tail of a golden retriever and he'd act a lot like one; loyal, eager to please, protective, etc.]

Some cats had a reputation for being cool, and aloof, but not Blair. Blair was the epitome of a social butterfly, and her eagerness to please was almost more like a puppy than a feline. But she was definitely cat. Ears. Tail. Sharp claws. And don't get her started on catnip, or balls of yarn.
But the thing was, most of her classmates at her old school had been a little put off by her friendliness. She didn't really understand humans' need for personal space. Or modesty. So she didn't really fit in, or have a lot of friends.
Until she met Stiles.

He hadn't been disappointed when he'd given her the chance. Stiles took Blair home and learned quickly that they got along pretty damned well.
He'd probably had her for near a year, now, and it was like having a live-in best friend. ...a really hot one who had no idea she was hot and oh God, why? Why? Of course Stiles would be the one to blur lines with a pet person. He tried to be more careful about keeping her at an arm's length when he figured it out. And this is why I wanted a male dog...how the hell I ended up with a hot female cat is beyond me, but this is why I wanted a male dog, he told himself miserably day in and day out. He just needed to get his shit together, that was all. No big deal, he could totally do that, right? He could.

And then he started acting funny. Blushing a lot, and sitting on the other end of the sofa. Shutting doors that he used to forget to keep closed. That sort of thing. So, Blair was confused. She knew that he liked her, she could sense it in this body temperature, taste it in his scent. But he seemed so uncomfortable sometimes, she wasn't sure what had gone wrong.
"Are you mad at me, Stiles?" she asked, one day when she couldn't stand to wonder any longer. "Was it something I did?"
no subject
Maybe he'd gone a little overboard with his attempts to keep from feeling what he was feeling, he thought in retrospect. Of course he had, because that was what Stiles did; he made things worse trying to make things better.
