[ Sometimes, Mabon forgets what things can be like between him and Sage.

They spend more time together than is probably necessary, growing closer as the days roll by, and he thinks, maybe, if they had been part of the rest of the world, they might have been paired together a long time ago. It has nothing to do with their marks, though Mabon has seen enough of hers to want to always see them, and it has nothing to do with the abilities that they were born with. In another place, they might have been more, but it doesn't stop him from taking her hand and pulling her out into the trees. It doesn't stop him from sitting with her and leaning close, resting wandering fingers on her knee and grinning at her.

It's quiet here, their space. Usually, he would talk about what's going on in the other houses or what Sage has been doing, but today, he doesn't say a word. Instead, he looks at her for a second or two before tilting his head and pressing a careful kiss to the corner of her mouth. ]

[Sage doesn’t think anything of it when Mabon leads her out into the woods, where they’ve always gone when they wanted privacy. It’s not until he kisses her that Sage realizes something is different. And such a careful kiss, so unlike Mabon. It’s not how she imagined he would kiss anyone, especially her. He always found new ways of teasing her, of making her mad, and yet for a reason that eludes her to this day, Sage couldn’t help being fond of him.

She put a hand on his arm, a warning but she doesn’t move away from him. She places her other hand atop his, to keep his fingers from wandering around too much, and breathes in their nearness for a moment.]

[It's odd not knowing what to say. So Sage decides to return the gesture instead of trying to speak and softly kisses the corner of his mouth. She ignores how her heart suddenly slows, knocking loud in her chest.]
