To find The Spine and Cecil at odds was so rare an occurrence that most people didn't actually believe they were able to stay upset with each for much longer than an hour or two-- Cecil herself included. Unfortunately, they had more than their beliefs on many matters in common, but they also had several of the same breed of inner demons too and one of those in particular was the most typical point of tension when it came to their relationship.

Cecil took in a deep breath of the briny air as she put Castle Baron behind her, the familiar smell of the nearby ocean melting away to the greener, earthier scents of the forests, her mind abuzz with worry and her chest heavy with sadness. She'd known since she first learned of what the robots were once used for that there would be... complications between them. That was just the nature of the two of them being of very different origins and from equally different walks of life. Still, Cecil couldn't accept that that was any reason for The Spine to treat her, as she saw it, like she was made of glass.

The further she tracked him from the city though, the more she regretted telling him as much. She'd lost her patience and he'd retreated, so in spite of the protests from the royal guard, the knight-queen ventured out on her own to bring him back. It was her fault he'd left, she felt, and all she wanted was to tell him how sorry she was, to tell him he could take all the time he needed, and that she just wanted him back now. It wasn't that she thought he couldn't take care of himself; she just knew he didn't really know all about the dangers of her world yet. And his heavy footprints in the soft ground were beginning to lead into the mountains now, where the more dangerous wildlife in the area inhabited.

He had heard tales of the new Queen in the North, tales of ice and snow and hair as red as blood. Using the excuse of checking the borders, the Prince made his way to the borders, using the cover of night and a new moon to slip inside the ice cloaked hills of the Northern lands.

Dressed in layers of wool knits and furs over leather, he crunched his way through the forests, a red, white, and blue shield strapped to his back, keeping to the shadows. One never knew what you would find in the frozen forest.

They call him the witch's boy. Whether he is her son or simply her servant is a matter of rumors, as is the question of why it's now him who always comes down to the village instead of her. The most outlandish whispers speculate that this young man is the witch's new form, though others will insist they have seen her at night, wandering the woods near her hut.

But he's the only one who's seen around the village anymore. He sets up in the village square with his supply of herbs and potions, his eyes hidden by the wide brim of his hat, a bag of fortune-telling runes hanging from his belt. Some people try to harass him. Some sit down with him and speak in hushed voices before passing him a coin and moving on. Most walk by without so much as a glance.

He's never spoken with her, barely glanced her way. Until today.

Today, as she passes, he's sitting cross-legged on his mat as usual. There's a flower in the palm of one hand, and with the fingers of the other, he gently strokes the petals.

She steps past him.

"It fell off the vine," he says.

Darcy had spent many a night with Jane star gazing. Often enough, her friend, now wife of the Chief, would tell her that they were like falling stars. That they started somewhere far away, only to be enveloped by those of Asgard, a powerful Northern kingdom.

Darcy would snort. Easy for her to say as Thor's eyes were only for her. But Darcy, being Jane's lady in waiting, felt otherwise. While Fandral, Hogun, and the others made excellent bachelors, she simply saw them as brothers. Fellow great warriors that would easily let her join them upon the practice field. She didn't wield Mjolnir as mighty as Thor can but she threw her own hammer well enough.

During one such session, Hogun was summoned quickly to the Chief's house. A warrior, the others whispered, from far away had wanted to come to speak with Thor. A prince, whispered some, but one too used to the battlefield to prosper well in any court.

Darcy was tugged away as well, washing her face and thrown to stand beside Jane as they welcomed this supposed warrior prince from far away.

Kanji's breaths were heavy; he'd never met something that fought as fiercely as this, but the legends... the legends were true.

They were called usurpers. They move into a region and drive out the other hunters, throwing entire ecosystems out of balance, and why wouldn't they? They had the breath, horns and claws of dragons, teeth like daggers, and could call storms into their bodies to further power themselves. Awash with red lightning and almost strutting as if the fight thus far hadn't taken the wind out of it, even someone as lionhearted as Kanji was feeling the stray sparks of fear. This thing shouldn't be here...

They were usually blue and gold. What the hell was this black and red one doing skulking around!?

Fuck it, nevermind! Readying the large mace in both hands, he roared and charged. He'll just do his best to wear it down and drive it off. He'd be a fool to think he could kill the damned thing, but how much money would this bastard's fur take in on the market? He'd never have to work again!

[As was par for the course for a day with Anna, what had started as an interesting discussion between mother and daughter eventually escalated to ridiculous proportions and somehow ended with the two of them switching places briefly: Anna as the resident pathologist, and Naomi as the acting Princess of the kingdom of Arendelle. Of course, some minor alterations to their respective outfits had to be made, and Elsa was obviously more than skeptical (though Alyssa was obviously over the moon to see her mother as a princess), but as most who have come to know her have no doubt realized, there was simply no denying Anna, especially when a challenge was involved.]

The name "Bowser" is a pretty common one among the various kingdoms of the world, attached to the image of a hulking, smart-mouthed beast that has a penchant for kidnapping princesses. Usually, his sights are on the Mushroom Kingdom or its adjoining kingdoms, but this time... he has his eye on something else. A normally peaceful place, the Leaf Kingdom was home to all sorts of festivities and interesting creatures. It was also home to the prestigious Fishing Tournament, where the best of the best gathered to have a good time.

Well, of course he's gonna go! He's the best, isn't he?

Only... Bowser doesn't play fair. Why should he have to compete when he knows he's the best? Unfortunately for Leaf Kingdom's princess, Isabelle, his nefarious plans involved dragging her with him to get his way. "Give me that trophy or you'll never see your precious princess again! Gwahahaha!" is what he said - or something to that effect - as he scooped up Princess Isabelle into his Clown Car and fluttered off.

Kidnapping and bullying people is his answer to everything, evidently.

Setsuna had once worked with Mercury as the bandit Eas, but those days had long since passed. She had found a new calling and had set off to become a knight. While she had been feared in the past she was now known for how passionately she fought to keep the kingdom safe.

Unfortunately, despite her many victories for the kingdom she hadn't been able to sway her former partner down the same path as her. To this day they still found themselves at odds when they crossed paths. She swore that she'd either make him see the error of his ways or bring him to justice the next time she saw him.

Something that she might be able to make happen sooner rather than later. She had caught wind that Mercury had another heist planned for tonight. She would be there of course to put a stop to him.
