1. Friendly hug - this person is your good pal, and you just wanna give them a fond squeeze to let them know.

2. Romantic hug - you just want to be closer, so wrap your arms around them, maybe rub their back some...

3. Bear hug - maybe you haven't seen them in a while, so how about a giant hug that lifts them off their feet 

4. Hug from behind - surprise them, guess who?! or maybe they're having a bad day, cheer them up.

5. Awkward hug - maybe it's on accident, but whatever the case is, you can't help but feel a little nervous about hugging them. 

6. Reluctant hug - whoever this person is, you have to hug them, better make it quick!

[ Sam does his best to flash a smile at Bucky, though it comes out looking a little more strained than he'd like. Giving it up as a lost cause, he shakes his head with a sigh. ]

Nah, didn't really feel like it today. Figured I'd just take it easy for once and map out a couple of new trails to try out for a change.

[ He's totally not avoiding the trails he used to run with Steve, of course not. He's not acting like some stupid, jilted friend who'd hoped for too much - just a guy who's miffed at being left behind by his best friend. He'll get over himself soon enough.

Those thoughts get him scowling for a brief moment before he shakes himself out of it though, and he turns to Bucky with an apologetic look. ]

Sorry, man. I don't think I'm going to good company today. Think I woke up on the wrong side of the bed or something.

[ Rubbing at the back of his neck, he stares down into his glass of orange juice as if trying to find a way out of his funk. He's not being fair to anyone acting the way he is - not to Steve or Bucky or even himself. ]

You don't have to go or anything. I just... wanted to let you know that I'll probably be grumpy today.

[ grumpy, he can deal with. hell, he's grumpy most of the time anyway. not that being grumpy together is going to help much (and it sounds too cliched to work anyway,) but he knows how sour moods can be. he's just not sure if it's the go-away-I-want-to-be-alone type or the I-could-really-use-some-company type.

he's also not sure if he should be the one finding out. the whole cheering up gig hasn't been his thing for a long time, he's not even sure if he remembers how. but since they're on the topic of running ... ]

I could go with you. [ he says it with a shrug, hands in his pockets. ] If you want. [ depending on Sam's answer, it'll be a good indicator of what his current comfort level would be at least. besides, it's weird, the morning jogs with Steve and that woman whose name he keeps forgetting. he doesn't like her that much and he's not sure why.

either way, it's up to Sam. if he wants to talk, or if he's itching for that run and feels just as awkward about going with Steve as Bucky does, or if he wants to go sulk on the couch - he knows how it goes. he'll offer his company, but he's not going to press if Sam would rather be on his own for a while. he gets it. ]

[ The offer startles him, and he glances over quickly to Bucky, trying to see if he's just pulling his leg or something. The way Bucky stands - hands tucked away in his pockets, back straight, shoulders just slightly hunched in - and his jaw prove that he's not. There's a glimmer of concern in those blue eyes, too, and all of sudden, Sam feels guilty for being such a grump even if he logically knows he shouldn't, that his feelings are valid.

That still doesn't make him feel better for making Bucky worry. ]

Company might be nice. [ Or more than nice, if he's able to reel his mood in somehow. He does like having Bucky around. ]

But you have to promise not to lap me like a certain old man likes doing 'cause he thinks it's funny. [ It's meant to be lighthearted, but of course it comes out as more tired than he'd want it to. ] We can be unhealthy and grab hot dogs for breakfast after or something.

[ the pause and the way Sam hesitates before answering makes Bucky wonder if making the offer was a good idea, and he's suddenly nervous. maybe it was still too soon to tell, maybe Sam was still uncomfortable with the thought of running because of Steve's new gal pal - maybe Sam didn't want to be around Bucky any more than he had to be. there were dozens of reasons and Bucky's insecurities picked up on all of them, making the temptation to take it back and slink away hard to resist.

so it's surprising when Sam doesn't turn him down. it's not like he's jumping up and down at the idea, but it's not a flat out "no." Bucky figures he might as well take what he can get, and maybe getting back out there with a new running partner will help cheer Sam up a little more. it sounds like a good plan.

the jibe at Steve does make him laugh a little bit, but even that doesn't sound like a friendly teasing jibe so Bucky rubs his nose and clears his throat. ] Tough request, but I think I can manage that. [ hell, if poking fun at Steve ends up being what cheers Sam up, Bucky does remember a few pretty embarrassing stories to tell. ] And I'm always up for unhealthy breakfast. Can't eat proper all the time.

[ It does, indeed, cheer him up a little, and so does the thought of scarfing down chili dogs with all the works with Bucky, if he's honest with himself. Maybe they can wrangle up fries from somewhere, too, and soda to top it all off.

He snorts, feeling somewhat lighter - or at least a little less weighted down (there's a difference between the two, after all) - and is able to manage a smile at Bucky. (There'll be time enough later to feel guilty about being snarky about Steve.) ]

Help me with stretches later during cool down? Gotta remind myself to do those or else my muscles'll hate me for it tomorrow.

[ There's something soothing about having Bucky around right now, and Sam feels a little more like his usual self to be ashamed about how much of a dick he's been this whole morning. He pauses, then rubs at the back of his neck, looking more than a little sheepish. ]

Hey, look. I'm sorry I've been an ass since you got here. Didn't mean to take it out on you.
