Utterly Smitten
![]() Because sometimes, you want to play out goofy, absolutely adorable adoration no matter your character. You don't have a crush. You're not in love. But you wish you had either of those things, because they're the lesser of all evils. Instead, you have it oh so bad. You're smitten, kitten. Why, every little thing this special person does is magic! Their looks, their personality, their smile - or lack thereof - are the most beautiful you've ever seen. And maybe they're even nice to you when you totally don't deserve it! Whether your acquaintances would describe you as "soft-hearted" or "hard-ass pain in my ass," there's hardly been one as taken as you. Just looking at them makes you weak at the knees, and you think those butterflies in your stomach may be staging a revolt. Damn it, it's disgusting. No matter if you're a grown-ass adult or a school kid, you'll feel...uhm, like a school kid. Of course, you probably shouldn't pull any pigtails. Instead, put those conflicting emotions to good use. Admire your object of affection from afar. Hang out with them as much as you can. Be awkward as only you can. Enjoy being in their presence or being close to them because afhhdhflfh they're so pretty and so aaaaahh you're ensnared. Be super nice to them. Dote on them because they're so darn cute. Fulfilling their every whim will get you in good! Or be a terrible tsundere, as that's all some of you assholes know how to do. Eventually, you'll get over your denial and realize, grizzled warrior-king or megalomaniacal god or bitchy brat you are, you're feeling flushed. HOW TO PLAY

[After all, Peter gave it to her, and with that she was able to fix her mistakes on the test where she got the columns of bubble selections mixed up. Adjusting to American styles wasn't easy, but having him as a friend made it much easier! And as time passed, well...they're still friends, but she's grown very fond of him. The eraser makes her calm and happy whenever she's scared or upset, just by holding onto the old thing. Finally she grasps it firmly in her palm and emerges with a triumphant smile.]
[Looking to her left, she spots the familiar teen, and starts to beam in greeting. But it seems like he's taking pictures of other people. Football players, she thinks? Whatever they're saying, it doesn't seem all that nice. Orihime's smile fades as she quietly closes her locker. Would it kill them to be a little kind? Peter's one of the best people she knows. Which kind of makes it hard to express her feelings, in all honesty...]
Parker-kun!
[The honoriffic is more habit than anything. He's the only one she still addresses with the old formality, just because it's always been that way. Orihime hurries forward, tucking the eraser safely out of sight in her jacket pocket.]
Are you going to the science lab after school today? We can get extra credit.

SMITTEN HARU TIIIIIIIIIME, not together
[they're just washing dishes. he's washing them, and makoto is drying them. that's it. it's mundane, it's boring, it's domestic... but when they brush fingers passing the dishes off, haru can feel his heart skip a beat. he drops the plate he's holding into the water on accident.]
♥ᴗ♥
he's absorbed in his task, a mundane thing, but it's made easier and not as much of a chore with haru. it surprises him a little when the dish drops into the sink, splashing him, and makoto looks over at haru and blinks. he wipes himself off. ]
They're kind of slippery, huh? [ a laugh and a smile, just to reassure haru. it's not as if the plate broke, and even if it did, he wouldn't be upset. ] We've just got a few more to go, though.
no subject
[let him just duck his head a bit and try not to blush too hard, picking the plate back up.]
... It's dark. [he says it quietly, glancing out the window. he should have gone home a while ago...]
no subject
It is. Did you want to stay over tonight? [ his smile is warm, welcoming, because of course, haru is always welcome here. ]

[Yang leans on the Faunus's shoulder, friendly and warm as can be. It's no secret to anyone that she likes him...except maybe Sousuke himself. She's tried laying it on pretty thick, even outright saying they should go out sometime.]
[Only Sousuke would think she meant 'out on a mission' which...they actually wound up doing anyway, so no skin off of her nose. He's dense as a brick, but that's fine with her. Either he'll warm up to her and get it someday, or he won't. In the meantime, there's no one else she likes better, so he's still going to get the blonde huntress invading his personal space like whaaaaat.]
What are you doing tonight? Got any plans?
no subject
That being said, the dog Faunus is rather oblivious when it comes to the various levels of "like", so when people try to tell him that Yang likes him - or "likes him likes him" if they're trying to be more clear - he doesn't see what the fuss is. They're comrades, allies - friends, even, so of course she likes him. What's the big deal?
Oh, well. You civilians (having been raised primarily by Atlasian military types, he didn't get to do much in the way of socializing).
He's used to her encroaching inside of his personal bubble, and while it's met with the usual frown as he glances up from the homework he was attempting (see: failing) he raises an eyebrow. ]
Nothing out of the ordinary. Some routine equipment maintenance. Why?
no subject
[It almost hurts, being this blunt about it. It feels just a teensy bit awkward, but, well. Necessity and all that. So if even this attempt fails, then she's pretty sure he might be pulling the obtuse thing on purpose as a means of telling her 'no.']
Nothing fancy, of course. Dinner, a movie or a dance. I'm open!
[Anything that's not sparring again, because heaven knows THAT doesn't work in getting his attention.]
no subject
[ He mulls that over for a moment, averting his gaze briefly. A date... he's heard the term before, but he's not entirely sure what it means. "It's a date" is a phrase, right? Which, to his understanding, means an agreement to meet at a set place and time has been reached. So she just wants to meet with him later, right?
Simple enough. ]
I have no objections, though I have no experience whatsoever with dancing.

but, none of that mattered! it was the weekend and keigo's parents were, once again, out of town on business. which meant that keigo could invite as many people over as he wanted, so long as they didn't trash the house. ichigo was the obvious choice, though more often than not, they'd end up being delinquents in another matter entirely: raiding the liquor cabinet.
if keigo's parents noticed the dwindling supply of brandy and rum in their stash, neither made it apparent, which was all the more reason for keigo to continue to pilfer from it. good thing his sister was away at university, too... they'd have never gotten away with it otherwise.
waltzing back into the living room with two glasses in hand, keigo set them down on the coffee table with a flourish. he grinned at ichigo, presenting the drinks with an open palm. ] Your drink, my good sir! [ promptly after, keigo dropped himself onto the couch, leaning against the back of it with a sigh. ] Man, maybe I should be a bartender ... seems like an easy enough job, huh? [ ...though there was a difference in making drinks for friends and making drinks for customers... ]
no subject
Well, not all of it.
Because in those awkward between times, when clubs weren't running, when negotiations stretched on a bit, or when he was feeling sort of unmotivated, he'd found himself in Keigo's company. It was stupid, really, that something he'd all but taken for granted for so long had gained so much in importance to him, that he could hear that overused laugh of his and smile. It was stupid, almost as stupid as it was definitely not cool. And Ichigo scowled more because of it.
And here Keigo was, sliding in with that stupid handsome grin on his face and offering Ichigo a drink. Scowling, Ichigo reached out to take the glass, and promptly shoved his face into a bracing swallow of rum. Oddly the alcohol has made it easier to ignore the urge to reach out and skim his fingers through the feathery weight of Keigo's hair or stare at those obnoxiously expressive eyes of his. Oh, Keigo was talking.]
Aa, I don't think it would be what you think... [It was safer to look down at the cup, and so he did, idly tilting the glass just a little in his lap so that he could watch the light catch in it. He tried to focus on the slow, sweet burn of the rum and not that grin.] You'd have to memorize ingredients.
no subject
ichigo's remark, for example. it was flat, lacked any real interest, and keigo was fine with that. that was just ichigo. hell, that was just anyone who managed to get roped into talking to keigo for extended periods of time. but it still sounded a little off. not enough for keigo to mention it, but rather he noted it, filed it away. there wasn't any point in trying to psychoanalyze ichigo, anyway. he'd be there all night. ]
Eh, that wouldn't be too hard... no different than remembering English vowel sounds... [ he muttered, reaching to pick up his own glass. he drank from it with a hum, sighing as it burned down his throat. ] I bet you I could do it! [ he reached over and nudged ichigo lightly in his side with his elbow, grinning widely. ]
no subject
Ichigo huffed a sigh, and cast his eyes in the opposite direction. His shoulders rutched stiffly up and he press his back into the couch.]
And you'd have to deal with rowdy drunks, and shady characters. You wouldn't last a day.
[Ichigo tipped back a sip this time, more as an excuse to pull a wandering mind off the imaginative track it had just begun to settle on.]

It wasn't in her nature to fixate on a boy, no matter how athletic he was, or how nice he was to little kids, or how his smiles, though rare, seemed completely genuine. She could overlook all of that if he wasn't so respectful toward her on top of it. That attracted her more than anything else, and it was totally, 100% terrible. Rei wasn't equipped to navigate the waters of love with any grace or tact, and she was too ashamed by that fact to consult with her friends about it.
(Plus, Usagi would make it her life's mission to somehow bring them closer together, and Rei feared that Usagi's tireless persistence and ten-ton hint dropping might drive Ichigo away.)
Heavy-hearted, she exited her school that afternoon with the intent of going straight home, throwing herself into her studies, and devoting several intense hours to her shrine duties before bed. But he was there, standing by the front gate, his stupid shirt untucked and his collar opened a bit. A well-timed breeze brushed its fingers through his hair and she realized almost too late that she was staring.
Rei struggled to swallow her nervousness, straightened up a bit, and approached him with a look of happy surprise. ]
Kurosaki-kun! What are you doing here?
no subject
Aa, Hino-san. My old man's off at a conference again, so Yuzu's determined to make us something special. [A lazy, one-shouldered shrug followed.] I told her I'd take her and Karin to the store for ingredients.
[Turning idly to better facilitate conversation, Ichigo seemed not at all aware that Rei had been staring, or that she might be at all unhappy with his countenance. He was just the same old Ichigo.]
no subject
She had peripheral knowledge of Yuzu and Karin, and had seen them leaving school with Ichigo in the past. Yuzu, she'd heard, was quite the whiz in home economics. ]
It's too bad he'll miss out on a home-cooked meal. Her classmates say Yuzu-chan is really something in the kitchen. [ She held her schoolbag in front of her, squeezing the handle with both hands. ] There's a store nearby that stocks farm-fresh ingredients. It's a bit pricey, but you can taste the difference in quality. I could show you where it is...?
[ Now she was inviting herself along to something that had nothing to do with her. What kind of girl was she becoming? ]
no subject
She's certainly got a gift for cooking.
[After all, he even liked the rice she burnt, preferred it even. Still, Rei continued, and what she was saying only made sense to him. He had a little money saved up, and it wouldn't hurt to make this a little more special for Karin and Yuzu, with the old man out of the way. That muted little smile grew into a proper grin then.]
Aa, sounds like a good idea, Hino. I'm sure Yuzu will appreciate it.
[It was clear from his tone, however, that he appreciated it already.]
