The Train to the Afterlife Meme

Congratulations: You are dead. Maybe you know how, maybe you don't. Perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear down to the look in your comrades' eyes. Maybe it was your time; you've done all you wanted to. Or maybe you weren't at all ready to go, maybe you went out kicking and screaming - but none of it matters. You know you're dead, and the train is taking you to an afterlife. Perhaps an afterlife of your choice; you might've earned that heaven. Or perhaps you've earned something else entirely. It'll be a bit of a journey, though, so you might as well take your time and talk to the other people in your coach. Death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. But death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be people you know, even if last you knew, they were alive - or long gone. Oh look, here comes the snack cart.

Post your character (bonus points for a brief description of their death and/or appearance from it), and let others reply to you. You are both dead! How is up to you, whether it's AU or canon. Characters don't know where they're headed, they just have a vague awareness of going to some sort of afterlife.

Trip had no idea where he was or where the train was heading to, only that he knew it was where he was supposed to be. His only memory prior to suddenly finding himself on a seat was watching Skye turn to rock. He immediately got up and went in search for her and anyone on his team. There was no sign of any familiar face. Finally he returned to his seat and found a woman who had been in the aisle, sitting in his by the window.

There were other open seats if he really wanted the window so Antoine decided to let her have it. Maybe she would be up for a conversation. "Where you headin'?" he asked simply in as friendly a voice as possible.

The train car sways and the gas lights hanging up near the ceiling flicker in time with the wheels bumping over breaks in tracks, they are accompanied by the soundtrack of iron clacking, rhythmic, low, soothing in the empty dark outside the windows.

It was not a clean and easy death, John Holliday did not slip silently into eternal night. You didn't need to be an oracle or a prophet to see that coming. Either his disease would rip him apart of a bullet. Much to the dismay of his enemies tiny, microscopic pests did something to him they never could.

The train bench is hard under him and if he had been sitting for long it would have been annoying but he has no concept of time, it doesn't seem to matter here, or register with him. All he has been able to focus on is the deep lung fulls of air he has been able to take. For ages he has been watching his chest rise and fall under his blood spattered collared shirt. It makes him feel alive.

He has one last card up his sleeve, detailed and written proof of some of Silas' indiscretions in a safety deposit box far away from Shiloh. He gives it up in exchange for her life, but doesn't count it much a mercy)

So. Here he is, on a train going nowhere - or where he presumes is nowhere, or maybe Hell - and the only other person onboard is someone else he recognizes as a soldier. Major Benjamin (or Captain, maybe, he didn't like the trappings that accompanied the higher rank) is the one that drops down in a seat across from his new companion, and offers a lazy salute.]

[He doesn't know how long it has been, since he is sitting on this train.

He looks out of the window, to nowhere, though his mind is far away from what he sees. He doesn't know where this train is going, he doesn't know what his deeds, in life, and how they contributed to the way he died, will affect his future (if he can really call it that).

But to be completely honest... He doesn't quite care, either.

His heart is heavy, though. He finds himself regretting things. Not what he did, no. He would do that again. Just what he did before, before putting an end to his own misery.

What if it brought trouble, to Jack? What if it brought some serious consequences to him, much more so than what he had ever intended?

He should have thought it through better. Shouldn't have done it all, over a heavy, rather desperate heart.

Of course, he knew him well, he knew he would probably manage to talk his way out of it all, but still-- He hadn't meant him any harm.

He sighs, and snorts, as soon as he realizes what he is thinking about.

Even in death, he worries about him. Even in death, he can't stop thinking about him.

At least it doesn't hurt as badly, he thinks.

But, even in death, he is a terrible liar.]

She’s dead. And it’s not even the good kind of death where she went out in one great, big heroic gesture. No, she got shot. She would think she’d have better luck at not getting pelted with bullets after her transition into a Super Soldier. Isn’t she supposed to live a long life? Make a difference in the world for just a while longer? Not this soon. Not this pathetically. Not this ironically.

She’d only become a Super Soldier because she was dying from a bullet wound. Now, here she is, dead – because of a goddamn bullet wound. And the worst part?

Hell’s got its own fucking train station.
