The Kissing Scars Meme

Despite the romanticism surrounding the emotion, it can be difficult to be loved completely — not just the beautiful parts of us, but also the sad parts, the injured parts, the hidden and less-than-pleasant parts. There are marks on us, both physical and mental, that we'd often rather forget. The mental ones can just be easier to hide. As for physical scars, they can be off of our minds some of the time, but that's exceedingly hard to do in more intimate, close moments. Whether it's to your dismay or otherwise, your partner is not looking away and ignoring your scars. To the contrary, they're providing attention in a way most heavily associated with tenderness: kissing. It may be an accidental slip off target, or they may be trying to show you that what you've done and who you've been don't matter to them now. Does the gesture touch you? Make the walls come up once again because of the memories that are dredged from somewhere you'd rather no go? A mixture of both? The wound has long closed, yet the pains remains; these days, however, there's someone who may be willing to help you bear it. Reply with the usual: canon, character, preferences, et al. You may also want to say if you're down for smut or not, since it's not a given. Be sure to include what side you'd like your character to play. Mention if you can do both the kisser and the kissed. Also, feel free to talk about your character's scars. Reply to others.

[ When money was tight and jobs few and far between, work for the Guardians came in forms that were less The Italian Job and more Ghostbusters -- and to everyone's chagrin, they often had to accept these jobs if having fuel and eating sounded palatable. This time they were tasked with destroying an old facility in which some sort of plant had taken root; evidently the non-native species would be terrible for the environment if it spread any farther than it had already, which meant the Guardians got to go in with flamethrowers like Ripley in Aliens.

It was a pretty awesome time, up until Gamora had jostled an oversized bud. It exploded open, pollen bursting from the bloom, and while Gamora herself was unaffected, her modifications working quickly to eliminate the alien threat, inhaling the pollen had caused Charlie, who stood next to her, to hallucinate pretty vividly. The pollen took effect immediately, and when the wizard started screaming, Peter slammed the trigger for his mask and rushed to his side. And when Charlie started slashing out a rune in the air, mistaking Peter for an enemy, the former outlaw was forced to restrain him -- and it's only some time after that Peter realizes what a fucking blessing it was that Charlie hadn't cast his Last Resort.

Their boss had neglected to mention that aspect of the plant at the time of hire -- though it did suddenly make sense as to why he would hire the Guardians to do his dirty work. His response for the omission as Drax and Gamora stood menacingly over him was a meek, "... Oops?"

The plant, it seemed, had been developed as an experimental weapon, modified to grow quickly. Its pollen was meant to instill fear into their enemies -- only it worked too well, taking root far too quickly and making their test subjects scream and thrash as they relived the worst moments of their life. In small doses, as the one Charlie received, the episode would last minutes. In larger doses, the episodes lasted days.

"Your friend was lucky he only caught a whiff of the stuff," their employer had said as he slid over their units.

And even though they received triple the payment for their troubles, Peter still punched the man in the face before they left.

Back on the Milano, Charlie has long since recovered from his hallucinations; Peter doesn't presume to ask what it was that Charlie saw, but he's emphatic when he tells Charlie that he's available if he needs to talk, or if he just needs company, or anything. And while he tries not to crowd the wizard (as he was often accused of doing when any of the Guardians were hurt), he does sort of hover nearby, nervous and worried. ]
