Some characters can't just rush into things, especially things like love or sex. These characters need a partner who will take things slow, explore each other fully before taking the leap. They need someone they can trust.

[ Matthew de Clairmont had crossed paths with Lestat in the past; it was perhaps impossible for two vampires born in France, both times, to not cross paths eventually. Matthew was the older of the two, by at least nearly 700 years, but despite this fact and his security in his state, he was nowhere near as brazen as "The Brat Prince." He watched, quietly, and focused on managing the affairs of his family, because above all, they were more important. They could weather the troubles of time, even those inadvertently brought upon them by Lestat. They did weather the troubles of time and thrived into the modern age.

And yet this enigmatic creature had finally teased at Matthew's hunting instincts - perhaps not as prey, but as some shining bauble that grabbed the attention of a wild beast and lured it in. Finding Lestat was not hard - making his way into the creature's most recent Miami lair was not hard. He was not brazen, but he was willful, invading the other vampire's space.

He waited in the moonlight, feeling the balmy sea breeze blow through the second-floor window. He could smell Lestat nearby; he shifted in his seat, preparing for an attack should it come. ]

Their last mission had been successful, but that was the best thing Naoki could say about it. Their teamwork was worse than the first time they worked together. It was a mess, and they were lucky it was a relatively simple mission. There was some silent agreement when they'd returned to Kiri and immediately went in opposite directions.

But now they needed to talk. They couldn't just avoid each other. If they got a serious mission without resolving this they would be in trouble. He felt incredibly guilty about this, as the source of their change was obvious. And he was the one who had initiated their... tryst? One night stand? Naoki had no idea how to classify what they'd done. He'd never been like this with anyone else.

Rather than show up at the Hoshigaki lake and tussle with the guards, he chose to wait at the other place he was bound to run into Kisame. The seven swordsmen headquarters. He was there often enough that his presence wasn't worth more than mild interest. Naoki rarely showed up alone, after all. But there he was.
