They were on your front door, in your yard, or on the street, confused and clearly in no position to fend for themselves; in a worst case scenario, they were bruised and battered, possibly close to death. Bleeding heart or not, you can't just be so cruel as to let them suffer. They need a place to stay, and you'll open your home to them...long enough to get back on their feet, anyway.

Speaking of feet, the shoe could be on the other one. You're worse for the wear - in a new place, possibly injured, certainly not in the best state of mind. You could not even remember how you got here or who you are to get here, for that matter. You may not want to remember. Whether willing or not so willing, you're in no position to turn down help, especially if said helper won't take no for an answer. No matter how dedicated you are to looking after yourself, there's only so much you can do in your position.

The two of you are staying together, at any rate. Only for a while, the plan is. But after said while, even though strength and confidence is returning to the injured, there's something a little different between you two. It could be the close quarters, the kindness shown, or a number of things, but quietly, softly, feelings have grown. Could more confusion and hurt spring from this? What about when it's time to go? Can the temporary resident leave as easily as they intended? You're so close now, perhaps a little while longer can't do any harm...

...until whatever it was that put them in such a perilous position in the first place comes back, and there could be "justice" for anyone who's dared to help.

[The news about the clinic hasn't broken, yet. The police came that night, too late for the evening news, with their warrant and their lights that lit the whole street, and Aaron had been a step ahead of them, slipping off into the late-February night.

What brings his feet to her street is chance. It did not matter where the bus took him; it was away from the south side of town, and it was warmer than the night outside. But he can't stay on it long, not long enough to attract attention, and it is here that he disembarks, here where he slings the bag he had collected at the first murmurings of trouble over his shoulder and makes his way down the street, until he finds a place where the trees grow over their retaining wall and make an overhang, a place where the dark will hide him until morning. She's quiet and not much of a bother (which is surprising if you've had previous encounters with her) except for the fact that she's been following you around the park each time you change benches. It's not immediate, no, but just when you think she stayed behind, she appears. Silent, ghost-like. She doesn't even look at you. ]

Part of him has nerves that only he would know about, because she was just so...spirit-like. How could he have not felt her coming around when he was about to turn in? It makes him mad but all the more while, freaked out. "She's just some girl," he mutters.

Might as well shake her up a bit. Maybe then she'll leave him alone, and he'll finally put an end to this long night.]

Since he gets thrown into a fiery pit of doomity-doom, how would you feel about someone from a very particular hell taking him in? Slip is an OC of mine, based in the world of Little Fears (a tabletop RP), and his home base has always been in a rather creepy dimension. It's been a while since I explored his home dimension, and it might be fun to do so with someone like Chase. I don't know whether he would retain his powers post-death and in a different dimension, but either way, it could turn out neat.

It's everything else he has trouble with.

Like now. He doesn't remember how he got here, wherever here is... the edges of some kind of park in the rain. It's familiar, somehow. It tugs at the frayed edges of what's left of his memory like he should know it, but all that happens when he tries to chase it is a headache.

There's no handlers now. He's alone, with no target, no mission, no idea of where he is. It's raining, and all he can think to do is sit on the bench along the sidewalk and wait. Maybe his handlers will catch up with him. Maybe they'll find him. Maybe it won't be too long.]

(One would think that quiet nights would be something of a relief during the war. Nights where there were no air raids, where there were no teams out in the field to worry about. Everyone was safe and sound in camp, and maybe there had been a poker game earlier in the day. (Howard always lost those on purpose, throwing his hands after going all in. He was pretty sure everyone knew he was throwing it, but they didn't complain. He always brought cigarettes and whiskey to gamble with, and he didn't need them like they did.) But quiet days unnerved Howard. They always made it feel like there was something looming on the horizon. The good old, calm-before-the-storm analogy that seemed so appropriate during war times.

He always walks those nights, around and around the camp, to tire himself out, maybe, or to keep watch, he's not sure. Maybe a combination, because then he'll sleep the whole day through as long as he's not needed. Or, he'll help himself to what they try to pass for coffee, because even if the flavour is terrible, it does what it's supposed to do.

He had been walking that night, there's something nagging about it that he's not sure what is. Steve's in London, and Peggy too, Howard had been until earlier that afternoon when they'd received word that one of the HYDRA weapons was acting funny, as they put it, and he'd made the quick trip over in his plane. He'd poked at it, but hadn't found anything odd about it. He was going to keep it under observation, but maybe that too was part of what had him on edge.

Now, it wasn't unusual for soldiers to cry out during the night. Nightmares were common, if was odd if you didn't have them, really, and so it wasn't an odd thing to hear. But as he entered the sleeping tent to return to his own, the bed he heard it from that night was Barnes's, and he doesn't like the sound of it.Nightmares aren't enjoyable, especially for someone who had been where he had. He frowned, going to him and gently shaking him to try to wake him, while keep his voice low.)

Barnes. Barnes. Come on. Wake up.
