Post with your character, canon, and any notes/preferences. (If it is normally impossible for your character to give or receive hugs, like if they don't have limbs or are incorporeal, be sure to tell us whatever you're changing for them to participate.)

1. Friendly Hug: The default hug; a hug as a show of platonic affection. Is it a normal hug, or a pouncetackleglomp? You decide!

2. Romantic Hug: Can't kiss your lover right now, or just want to change it up a bit? Give them a romantic hug!

3. Comfort Hug: They look so sad... give them a hug to cheer them up!

4. Awkward Hug: You really don't want to give this person a hug; maybe you just had a fight, or you're just too stoic/manly/badass to do hugs in general. Too bad, you have to give them one. Do your best!

5. Scoop Hug: In addition to a hug, the hugger picks up the huggee slightly off the ground. Works best when they're bigger and stronger, but hey, seeing little girls try to pick up 6-foot badasses is cute too.

6. Surprise Hug: Sneak up on them from behind with a surprise hug!

7. Violent Hug: Hugs are supposed to be friendly, what gives? Whether you're squeezing the wind out of them or are just getting them into the perfect position for a backstab, you're only giving this person a hug in order to hurt them.

8. Other: Reroll, pick your own, mix and match, etc.

[ nights that rain-- arguably, there is no worse combination.

the rain always reminded yamato of those lonely, heartbroken days, sitting on the engawa while sheets of gray fell just past the tip of his nose, okita-kun behind him in his bedroll dying inch by inch from a terrible enemy that he can't protect him from. rain always reminds him of the powerlessness of his sword, of all the things he couldn't have done no matter how strong he was, how brave, how loyal. the night, in contrast, reminds him of death, because death never actually comes in the night. it's when the night passes and the day breaks that death happens when you least expect it, just as you think you've made it through it shatters all your hopes and expectations, leaving nothing behind but a bloody smear in a blood roll and an empty hole in your life that can never be filled.

but that doesn't mean that yamato doesn't try. on rainy nights like these, he gets restless, too agitated to sleep, too burdened by the sentimental feelings and memories that haunt him unbidden. on nights like these, he watches over kashuu, peers into the rooms on silent feet where kanesada and horikawa are sleeping soundlessly, pads into the dojo to meditate the grief away until he's sure dawn has broken and he makes one last round before everyone is awake to make sure nobody has died in the night again this time.

the saniwa's room is always the first he checks, the one that's closest to his heart and the one that elicits the most fear. losing his comrades is a reality that he dislikes, albeit one that he faces with almost pragmatic efficiency, but losing his saniwa-- is unthinkable, because that would mean losing okita-kun again for the second time. yet another failure on his hands, another show of powerlessness when he needed strength the most. while it's absurd to think that his saniwa now, haru, with nary a cough in him, would suddenly expire in the night just because of a little rain, but still yamato worries. he lingers by the saniwa's door, slides it open delicately to peer in. expects haru to be asleep, curled up in his bedroll-- which he finds, to his relief..

almost drawn, he hesitates on the threshold of the room, before padding in quietly. sitting in seiza next to haru's futon, he watches the peaceful rise and dip of his saniwa's chest like a lullaby. his saniwa is healthy. that's good. it means this time, he may be of use longer.

a brush of his fingers, feather-light, on haru's brow, lovelorn-- when an irrational fear strikes him. but what if it did repeat again? what if haru dies again, slowly and painfully into the night, and he has relive that nightmare a second time over?

it's dawn, and the fear shouldn't have been there save for the rain still falling outside like echoes of his past. almost without realizing it, tears begin rolling down his face. ]
