I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

i. Scenarios ① kidnapped for ransom - everyone wants to make a quick buck. and what quicker way is there than ransoming someones life. Not that everything always goes to plan. Let's just hope that everyone comes out alive and happy. ② kidnapped for revenge - Someone was on the wrong side. Maybe it's the significant other of an Ex. Maybe it's the Ex themselves. Or perhaps it's even more complicated than that. Either way, there's nothing sweeter. ③ cracknapping - Okay, so you didn't mean to drink that much, but now you have woken up in a room with a bunch of mascots from the game and what is going on? ④ kidnapped for help - We need you help. Whether you're willingly up to offer it or not. ⑤ kidnapped for their own good - Want to get you out of a bad situation. It's for your own good. Trust us. You're safe now, you won't be hurt any more. ⑥accidental kidnapping - okay. so this wasn't... exactly what was planned. But looks like we've got an extra person now. W H O O P S ??? ⑦ wildcard - Anyway you want it. ii. relationship ① kidnapper and kidnapee - The prize and the thief, what better combination? ② kidnapee and rescuer - Don't worry, they're here to save you. ③kidnapees! - Well. Stuck together. This is a good bonding moment. ④ kidnappers anonymous - All of you need to get together and feel bad about yourselves. ⑤ wild card - That's the way you need it

Everything has a weak point.

[The demon tries to make one last grab for her, but Shiki just brings down her knife to slice off a limb.]

Not everyone can see it though.

[And her last blow is straight through its chest. Whatever life was in the demon's eyes is slowly disappearing and its being begins to disappear into the oblivion.

In Shiki's mind, she's doing this creature a favor. After all, death, to her was precious and she's granted it the gift of having a definite end. And instead of having to linger in the Fade as an existence defined by the negativity of humans, it could be free from such shackles and burdensome desires.]

And you can see it?

[ There's an edge to his voice, more from curiosity than anything. As he approaches, he ignores the death of the demon, ignores the corpse of the man -- in his mind, their ends were deserved. The man for his foolishness, the demon for its sadism and for all the trouble it would have caused. ]

When your eyes changed -- you were tapping into some sort of ability of yours, weren't you?

[She turns to face him. His lines are very clear and are various hues of reds and oranges. Her eyelids close and when they open back up they're back to being a normal dark brown.]

... They're called Mystic Eyes where I come from. I guess it's a kind of magic, but it's the only kind I've got.

[And a magic puppet arm, but that's Touko's work, not hers.]

Magic not connected to the Fade? Unheard of. Where do you draw your power from, if not the Fade?

It works differently where I'm from.

[She's reverted back to a rather indifferent expression.]

I just use my own energy. Simplest explanation I'm gonna give.

[ He considers her for a long moment, but he eventually nods. ]

That will have to do for now.

Let's go, then. I don't relish the idea of staying here any longer than necessary.

... Guess I'll be tagging along then?

[ Dorian is making for the exit after he says his piece, then turns to her.

The look on his face says, "Don't be absurd." ]

Have I misunderstood the situation? Do you have some place better to be, by chance?

I didn't even know the name of this country. My chances aren't that high on that note.

[cultivations]

[ Dorian nods. ]

As I thought. Come along, then. I'm sure we'll find use for you in the Inquisition, at least until we can find you a way to return home.

[She figures she could find her way back on her own, but gotta admit, being in a place where fighting is more common is kind of intriguing. So she'll stick around for now.]

Ah. So you're with them. Whoever they are.

[cultivations]

The In-qui-si-tion. [ He enunciates each syllable. ]

They're the only organization doing anything to remedy all of the various troubles that plague this place. As you can see, they've made more than a few enemies along the way.

And yes, as one of the most powerful and handsome mages in all of Thedas, I am, naturally, allied with them.

[ Whether they want him to be or not, for the time being. ]

[If she was more vindictive, she'd probably snicker at him.]

So abominations are just bottom of the barrel trouble you guys deal with then?

[cultivations]

[ He waves the thought off, as if dismissing it physically. ]

The least of our troubles.

If you are, as you say, from another world, I should make you aware of the fact that there several worrying rips in reality from which demons -- like the one you recently dispatched -- are pouring out of. It's a basic topic of conversation, so I suggest you try not to look surprised if someone brings it up.

[She has a feeling she's in a world where unlike 20th century Japan (still in the 90s eyyy), killing in this place is more or less a necessity at times. Hm. Gonna have to exercise more restraint than usual.]

That's probably one of the things that will surprise me the least actually.

[cultivations]

Ah, well there we are, then.

In any case, among the demons plaguing us are bandits and mage cultists and Templars infected with a substance known as Red Lyrium. All of it is unpleasant, and typically we are expected to dispatch them with impunity.

And seeing as how you're decidedly talented at that -- dispatching, that is -- I would imagine you'll fit right in with our merry band.

My main priority is going back to where I came from, you realize? I'm not that eager to tell just anybody about what I can do.

[cultivations]

I understand that, yes.

However, I do feel the need to appeal to your sense of-- good will, perhaps? And that your abilities would be exceedingly valuable in ending the troubles here.

While you may be content to leave this all behind, some of us do not have that luxury.

[Good... will... right... that...]

... I'll hang around your group long enough until I find a way out. If I find my exit, I'm leaving.

[ He waves a hand again. ]

Fine. Although I suppose the final say goes to our Inquisitor. Granted, she has a tendency to take in strays, especially those who know which end of a sword one is supposed to grip, so I imagine she'll welcome you with open arms.

So I wouldn't be the first? Good to know.

[cultivations]

Not in the slightest.

[ Once he's gotten his bearings, the area begins to look familiar. After all, the Inquisitor had dragged him all over these areas -- more than once, in fact -- and as such, he's learned the place well enough to remember where the nearest camp was.

And he gestures with a flick of his fingers -- follow me -- as he heads in that direction. They could probably do with a rest. ]

And how do you intend to return home, out of curiosity?

You mentioned the other rifts right? I could start there.

[cultivations]

Well, all of those rifts lead to the aforementioned Fade, where spirits and demons dwell. I'd find it unlikely you should find a path to your world there.

But then again, I also would have thought it impossible to slay a demon until today. A learning experience for all of us.

You never know. It's about as unlikely as me ending up here to begin with.
