Somehow, in some way, you woke up in front of the creepiest dang mansion you've ever set eyes on. The gates creak, the steps creak, there's bats, there's possibly a skeleton or two... but either way, you ended up inside the gates, they slammed shut behind you, and complete Scooby-Doo style, you have no choice but to go in for some reason. Maybe your car broke down. Maybe you just woke up here and don't know where you are. Maybe a horrible storm's rolling in with all the ominous thunder and lightning it'd like to add to itself. Either way, you've found yourself opening the door to a huge, sprawling, creepy mansion. The good news is, you're probably not alone. If you had powers before, they won't get you out of here, and this place seems to be almost thriving with spooks and spirits and unrest... the only thing to do is explore its various rooms and make yourself at home... forever! [ Okay, so the last thing he expected was to wake up outside the Gallery. To be fair, the Gallery was weird in and of itself, and he's not sure he's left it at all. In fact, all he's really sure of is that he REALLY doesn't want to get wet.

So there's a guy who smells curiously of oil and canvas wearing a ratty coat in the main hall of the mansion, staring at the gigantic staircases and many doors with trepidation. He really, really hopes whoever he finds in here is nice. He's already on-edge, and totally ready to run; this place gives him the willies...! ]

Standing in the lobby, nothing really suspicious has happened yet, so he's... cautiously optimistic. Yeah.]

[The stories say the house, perched over a sheltered cove deep enough to anchor the Pearl, contains more than just long-forgotten Mayan gold and silver, and a long-dead pirate's haul from Spanish ships attempting the voyage home from the New World. When its name is mentioned in a tavern, those within earshot go silent, as many a brave soul has been lost in the attempt to claim those riches for their own.

Stories of all sorts have originated with this place, from lonely women in white dresses wandering the rocky shores below the cliffs to the devil himself having taken up residence here, and Hector's considered it all with a great heaping of salt, before charting a course that's ended with them finding themselves here. Most of the crew's remained behind on the ship, to mind her, most of the rest that have come ashore will wait here in the overgrown courtyard.

This isn't their usual hunt, and he has to wonder if he's on the same fool errand so many have attempted before...But while he's in no rush to fling himself into death's arms again, he's certainly not afraid of a few things that go bump in the night. Which is why he looks up at the shadowed, broken windows high above, before setting his torch alight with another.

Three hours, no longer. There are five still left until the sun starts to sink beneath the horizon, but he's loathe to find himself here, after dark.]

But she's not going to sit around and wait, either. The solution is simple: she'll leave. She's careful, of course, since her attacker could still be nearby but all it takes is a simple exit and she could try to retrace her steps.

It is unnerving that she's unarmed, though.]

Naive earnestness, in his case, colors his every move; curiosity shines brightly in his eyes. When the sound of old, creaking wood floats through an open doorway down the hall, he perks up. ]

[The older man limping alongside Twelve is much more cautious, namely because as a "Thief of Justice"-in-training, as his father wants to call him, he has to keep the boy safe. The darkness doesn't scare him at all, as he's usually awake at this time of night, but there's the threat of danger. And Duster can barely fight on his own.

He turns to Twelve and whispers.] I think so...Something's in there. Be careful.

[He picks up the pace, not making a sound on the floorboards and motions for Twelve to stay behind him.]

[ Oh god... It's like that horror movie he watched with Dragon Kid once: a haunted house in the middle of a foggy nowhere with a ghoul wielding an all powerful katana-scythe at all who dared to venture in.

Ivan doesn't move far from the front door after it slams shut upon his entrance. He's too busy trying to fold something that might purify (or at least scare) any ghosts that come his way. However, he's limited to his square origami sheets, and it's taking him longer than he'd like. A creaking chandelier halts his effort as he yelps and backs against the heavy wooden door.

[ Rin yells as she kicks the door that just closed on her and curses more as that hurts her foot more than make it budge. (She's a more squishy singing robot.) All she wanted to do was ask directions because the GPS in the car sucked and got her lost. She's glad she had the sense to bring her trusty guitar with her because this would have sucked even more without it.

Pacing a circle and fuming, Rin glares at the grand staircase, eyes flickering from blue-green to red and back. ]

[wait. hold on a second. did you hear that muffled yowl? like the cry of a tormented spirit trapped within the walls? there's even a short rumble that causes dust to fall from the ceiling, and then... silence.

and then a panel in the wall near Rin turns, and Rin (the human one) stumbles out, covered in a fine layer of soot. Rin stares at Rin for a long moment.

She takes a few steps forward and practically bursts the doors of the mansion open. ]

Helena Crawford ((OC))

When your alternative is to spend a night out in the woods by a murky swamp just as all the bugs are starting to wake back up for the season, you don't get too picky about a house. Even in the nicest suburbs, if they hadn't sprayed for mosquitoes yet, you'd be damn sure to have four or five of them trying to fly up your nose every time if you tried to go outside without bug spray.

Crawford's wary of the creepy-looking place as she sneaks in through the fence, but it looks for all the world like it's been abandoned since the Civil War (or at least the 1980s). Of course, in some rural areas, you're bound to see big houses like this that are in disrepair but are just being poorly kept by their nearly bankrupted inheritors. For that reason she keeps her hood down low to hide her face, just in case she needs to make a break for it.

The floorboards creak like they're ready to give any moment, but Crawford keeps her step light, still wary of any other occupants the house might have... human or otherwise.

After she stands by the front door for a while, listening to the sound of the wind for anything strange, she gives up and tries the door. It opens without any resistance, and that is the first red flag for Crawford. Well, actually, that realization comes after the visceral nausea she feels from some instinctual part of her mind as she touches the doorknob. Instead of some buried, animal part of herself, though, the source of that feeling is far more likely to be the symbiont latched to her back, hidden beneath her hoodie. There's something wrong with this place. Crawford can't tell what it is but it's almost enough to make her turn around and leave.

But it's getting dark. And while a fear of all the unknown, invisible things hiding just outside of her reality makes for a convincing argument, there's plenty of very real, very knowable things to be afraid of out in the swamp at night.

Pulling her hood down lower, the anxious-looking woman slithers her way into the house and closes the door behind her. Maybe it'll be alright if she just sleeps close to the door, for escape purposes. And despite her misgivings about the place, it's been a very, VERY long time since she's had a good night's rest, and she barely manages to lean up against the door before her eyes are closed. She's fast asleep in moments. It's not a pleasant sleep, but it's sleep nevertheless. Her last thought before she drifts off is how glad she is that she at least doesn't have to worry about anyone else getting hurt out here.

[OOC: open for discussion/plotting/whatsever as desired. Expect a little bit less Scooby-Dooery out of this one, Crawford's more from the Lovecraft spectrum of things (but that doesn't mean I'm averse to humor by any means).]

The large house was owned by a human. Or at least inherited by one. Her grandmother had lived in this house her entire life, and left it to the only family member that checked in on her. Jessie. Not that Jessie spent alot of time out here. But when she wanted to be somewhere warm and safe, away from everyone, this was her second home of choice. But when it was so isolated, and buried deep in the swamps, it did get spooky. Jessie had heard the creaks from the library she liked to write in. She didn't think much of it. She knew her grandma was close by, and occasionally visited. It didn't scare her as much as it did comfort her. It was actually a shock when she saw the woman down at the bottom of her stairs. What on earth was a woman doing roaming this swamp at night. Jessie was actually a little relieved she was smart enough to get in from the elements. She went back upstairs quietly, and got a blanket from her closet. Going downstairs, she draped it around the woman, and left her to sleep. Jessie wasn't all that scared of her trying anything when she woke up. She came out here to escape what she'd seen in her time in the army.

[What do you get when you have someone with magic on the fritz who's terrified of things that go bump in the night?]

FUCK-!! [Kidrei "I hate bugs" Regalius. He backpedals as lightning strikes an already charred tree outside, rumbling the house and shaking dusty chandeliers above. As one foot follows another, taking him away from imagined threats, he collides with a suit of armor and sends it predictably clattering into a thousand pieces.

As the clamor fades away, leaving him comically frozen against the wall with his hand held up and maintaining a light spell, only when he's positive nothing is coming to rip his intestines out does he relax with a slow exhale. The light spell, a small glowing splinter of white hovering in the air, flickers and he swears underbreath as he takes a moment to refocus his concentration. Ever since he walked through the threshold of this fucking place- though with much deliberation and, let's face it, whimpering- his magic has been near impossible to use. Where once he could fill this entire hallway with strings of light to illuminate the dark passages, now a single moment of distraction causes him to lose the conjuration.

Which, considering about the only thing that can fuck with him is another magic wielder, someone with godhood or death it-fucking-self, doesn't help his "I HATE HORROR" mentality.]

Of course it would be a fucking thunderstorm. Of course it would happen while I'm stuck in a haunted mansion that's taking a piss on my magic and of course I'm alone. [He mutters as the light flickers and wavers teasingly for a moment before becoming a steady glow once more. When he's sure it won't give out, he raises his hand higher and glances down the hallway.]
