Forbidden interaction, wrong place/wrong time, shyness of one or more parties, insecurities, inexperience, for fun or for a challenge - you've got to keep you PDA not so "P."
Secret handholding, coincidental dates, leaning out the window, stolen kisses behind people's backs, the works! Just be cute, be fluffy, and be secret.
[ Romantic relationships are always so tricky. They are even more so when the romantic part of them is not so clearly defined, and all you have is two friends growing into -- something more? And awkwardly testing the waters with one another, keeping their shared affections under wraps in order to avoid making things awkward. If the two of them haven't addressed what they have just yet, it stands to reason to avoid having others do it for them.
Perhaps it doesn't help that they're from two different worlds entirely, from two very visibly different races, and honestly, who wants to answer the question "But how does it work" out loud? Certainly not them, with how private they are.
It's tricky, it's awkward, and Trahearne would not consider himself the smoothest guy around, but Cecil's company is worth it all. So like he's done so many times before, when he spots her on one of the Mansion's balconies, looking out to the scenery below he walks up to her — standing right next to her and letting his hand brush right against hers as he offers her a smile.
There's people watching, but he can afford at least that small gesture. ]
My friend, it is good to see you this evening. Tell me, has your day been pleasant?
((Voicetesting. Please excuse my fail while I find my footing! He's going to curl his tail around yours - or around your wrist, or your leg, or whatever else is within reach. He'll be embarrassed when he realizes what he's doing, though.))
[ It started out with small, tentative touches, back when they were still unsure of what was going on between them - their hands brushing together when they walked a little too closely to each other, one of them grasping the other's shoulder in a gesture of solidarity, ruffling the other's hair playfully. The more comfortable they grew with each other, with being in each other's space all the time, it grew to be like some kind of game, trying to show affection in public without being obvious about it.
Natasha can always figure out what they're doing, watching them with sharp eyes and an amused smirk that tells them they can't fool her (and really, they don't even try when they're around her, they know they'll always get busted. Steve's surprisingly astute about their game, too, rolling his eyes at them but also smiling in that exasperated way that shows he doesn't mind. It's a mixed bag when it comes to the other Avengers - it all really depends who else is around and how distracted they are.
It's most fun when they're out and about though, with strangers all around them. The fact that it's the little kids that can spot what they're doing the quickest always makes Bucky smile, eyes crinkling up in that adorable way, before he makes faces at them to make them laugh. Sam loves those moments the most, and he always gives in to the urge to link their fingers together as they walk briskly away from the giggling children and their bemused parents.
What's even funnier though, Sam thinks as he and Bucky lounge on a park bench, catching their breath after their morning run, is that most of the adults around them haven't caught on just yet. He's just fine with that - it can be their little secret for now. ]
