It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they? i n s t r u c t i o n s • Post with your character (note the name and fandom in the subject). • Other people reply to you by generating a number from 1 to 10. • Have fun! o p t i o n s 01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet. 02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops. 03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it. 04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them... 05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort. 06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help? 07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on. 08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them. 09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you. 10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario.

[It's been just under a week since Eggsy saved the world, and he still can't sleep.

Insomnia isn't something he ever suffered too much from. He'd always found ways to let out energy, to tire himself out to the point that he crashed facefirst into his bed, but that isn't good enough anymore. All of the Kingsman have been working tirelessly to clean up the aftermath of Valentine's failed scheme, but when people had been attacking each other worldwide and when a large portion of government figures are now all dead, there's a lot of work to be done.

That keeps Eggsy busy during the day, but when the time comes to pack it in and get some rest, he stares at the ceiling and thinks about Harry. About what he would have done, if he were here, although Eggsy figures that things wouldn't have gotten so mucked up if he'd lived. The footage of what he'd seen in that church runs through his head and makes him bite down on his lip so hard that he tastes blood.

That's what spurs Eggsy out of his bed with JB squirming sleepily in his arms. He wanders through HQ aimlessly until he ends up at the lab, and finds that he's not the only one who's awake when they shouldn't be. Merlin's there, leaning over some piece of tech, and after a moment or two just watching him, Eggsy steps closer.]

... You too? [He takes a seat at a nearby stool and drops JB to curl up in his lap.]

[For a man who operates on a very precise schedule, to the point where even holidays will not disrupt his workout routines and leg day will be had by the graace of God, mandatory vacations were quite the cruel policy. Japan was the nation known for the birth of karoushi, death by overwork, and as an employee of that government it was a problem he never expected to face. It was that reputation that had lead to something of a national push for a policy that would counter the culture of the perpetual nose to the grindstone.

If that weren't enough of a disruption to his biorhythms, there was jet lag.

If he were going to be forced out of his schedule, he was not going to be irrational about it. With an interest in World War II and related historical figures, ample savings due to his position as a successful public prosecutor and no family obligations, the obvious way to pass two weeks was to head to the land where most of the action, political and combat-wise, had taken place. Europe, however, was strewn out across several time zones, all quite off from Japan.

If Mikami couldn't sleep, he was no more going to lie in bed and wait for his body to adjust to the timezone than he was going to pass two weeks in his apartment doing nothing during a forced vacation.

That didn't really make him a man with any attraction to the bar scene or night life in general, unfortunately. The furthest he went was the hotel bar, where he would sit more or less alone with a local paper he'd already finished reading, nursing a nonalcoholic drink and eying the decor, ultimately still stewing in bitterness over policies enacted for the sake of idiots who couldn't manage their own obligations and lives properly.

[ Jasper can't sleep. Why should he ever try? What's the point? It feels like he's lost everything. He can't talk to Monty, either, because Monty's the cause of it just as much as he's part of the loss.

Perhaps the one good thing to come out of his experience at Mt. Weather is that he's learned how to sneak around even better than before and it's not hard to get out of the confines of his so-called people so that he can go for a walk alone.

It's not safe out here and he knows that, but maybe he just doesn't care right now. ]

[ Just when he was starting to think he understood mortals, new colours were shown. SHIELD had managed to spot something odd, though their knowledge seemed base, incomplete. One scientist dead, many (apparently) known faces going missing, steadily. And they suspected that there was a single man behind some sort of intended chaos.

They also seemed to think different men were better suited to prevent it. Perhaps they did not think it too real a danger. Whatever it was. Destruction. Chaos. Or just Midgardian fighting. Loathe as he would be to admit it, he might have preferred Loki's bickering over such things.

Asgard did not send demands, or orders, or requests. Did Heimdall not see a threat? If no, then why did SHIELD? The skies were restless, however, and perhaps they knew something Thor did not.

Regardless, he wished to help. Was that not his due?

These Kingsmen - men of the king? which king? or was that a nuance of their tongue? - were interesting men, and seemed to have codes that were honorable. Though not entirely welcoming or trusting, their caution of him palpable when he had first arrived; certainly towards someone who carried a hammer and announced himself as Thor. They didn't believe him, at first. He had to summon a bolt of lighting to prove his legitimacy.

He had chosen to wear Midgardian clothing, even if they sat strangely. Light and entirely useless in a battle. Thor had assumed the Kingsmen would have more information, at least have more targets to go and face down, or know who to stop.

They had sent one of their agents to meet a man named Valentine. Until the Agent Galahad returns, Thor finds himself wandering, impatient and listless, along the headquarters, and to the outside open air. Momentarily, he watches the stars, the open sky and takes a breath to ask Heimdall a question when a dog's small bark catches him off-guard.

A few long strides away, the pug paws at the leg of his owner. ] Ah. Young warrior - how goes your training?

[Consciousness is a funny-strange thing once you've passed. Or, rather, passed and not into the Halls they were all told of since they were young. Fili remembers a blackness when he died, encroaching and somehow only mildly alarming. Still, there was no fear in what came after, of all things. Confusion and guilt were most prominent, waking to grieving dwarf and vainly trying to comfort them beyond the veil. It never stopped Fili though and occasionally it seemed to work—being able to communicate with one of his kin.

And over time he learns the tricks of the trade, how not to be tied purely to grief and how to roam on his own. He likes watching the world grow, fight adversity; pave their own way. Considering that's how his last chapter started, when one of his own people he remembers fondly starts his own journey, Fili can't help but be drawn to watching over them. He tries to help warn in battle, in scouting, though he's not sure how much—if anything, gets through to Gimli.

So when the once-younger stays up all night with seemingly no reason, Fili gives him his attention. Known or not. He babbles, mostly, trying to fill the silence in hopes something clicks with the other dwarf. Yet he's run out of immediate things to ramble on about and finds himself sitting beside the redhead, head in hand as he looks to him.]

You ought to know I know that face you wear. Your father makes it. Mostly when it comes to parting with coin, I noticed. Not with you though... not this time. [Fili pauses with a purse of his lips that slowly unfurl into a small smile.] I used to read you with ease. Do you remember? More stubborn now, you are.

Jeyne's mind would not let her sleep. It swam and swirled with images from her day, of men slaughtered and ripped apart by the giant wolf the King in the North had brought with him to claim her family's home for himself. She feared this new world she found herself in, where might could force loyalty. And where direwolves existed far south of the wall.

She wrapped a robe around her nightgown and slipped her feet into shoes before slipping out of her chambers and down the stairs. She needed fresh air but was afraid to go far past the door leading into the courtyard. She didn't know where the beast slept, or if it slept at all.

[Thranduil, being an elf of some years, is well-used to not needing much sleep. In fact, as if often the way with the Eldar, it seems to him that the older he grows, the less sleep he requires, and he has found himself going weeks at a time between resting. Oh, he rests, sure. He will sit in a chaise and let his mind wander for a time, allowing his body to repair itself without placing any new demands on it, but his spacious bed in his opulent chambers goes undisturbed, more often than not.

Except, of course, when there is a dwarf lying in it. Unlike Thranduil, Thorin sleeps the heavy sleep of mortals, and so he has grown accustomed to the dwarf drifting off into his encompassing slumber rather quickly after they finish their love-making. He tends to lie in bed and wait for his lover to fall asleep before carefully rolling out of bed and shrugging on a silken robe, moving from his bedroom into the sitting room so he might get some work done until sunrise.

It has become habit to him, and so when he feels Thorin's body slump against his with the heaviness that most often signifies sleep, Thranduil doesn't even check before slipping from Thorin's arms to pad quietly out of the room. So engrossed is he in carefully shutting the door behind him without allowing it to make a sound that he misses the glitter of blue eyes watching him in the dark.]
