[It's alright! Lateness happens! I feel like this starter is a bit too generic, let me know if you need anything changed?]

---

[It’s amusing to him. The smallest, most insignificant actions sometimes have very unexpected consequences. It wasn’t exactly an accident, though, either—as he left the group he’d worked with for years, he’d lined his bag with a few treasures to make life easier for him down the road. It was now or never, looking back at it, because the group was in disarray and doomed to collapse in on itself sooner or later. It was just an afterthought as he left, a small jewelry-box sized crate stuffed into his bag that he thought no one would ever miss.

Well, a bit of research later (all with gloved hands, thankfully) and he was prepared to get rid of it. An old relic from many, many years ago, it was rumored to bring victory in some sources and death in others. It was a hot item, stolen from a museum nearly a century ago, so when a mercenary he’d met once or twice expressed interest in it, Legault had made a fair deal with him. He’d give the man the relic in exchange for a list of which high-ranked members of his old group were still alive. Sure, he was living and working comfortably now as a thief and informant, but it never hurt to have a list of names of people who might still have interest in killing you.

Given how strong they were, it was a job better-suited for Vergil than him, anyways.

Now, he waited for Vergil to meet him where they’d agreed on. It was late at night, as most transactions were, and he occasionally checked his cellphone as he leaned outside of a building in the bad part of town. Here, Legault didn’t stand out. People barely gave him a second glance, but it wasn’t far from his “office” or where he’d met with Vergil to discuss the details the first time. Once it came closer to the appointed time, he heard footsteps and glanced up, grinning.]

I was starting to get worried, you know. It’s not very safe out here for someone like me. [It was a lie, and they both knew it. He wasn’t as strong as Vergil, sure, but Legault fought dirty and could kill in his own way. He patted the bag at his side with a fist, a muffled wooden sound answering it.]
