turn over a new leaf for you
![]() turn over a new leaf for you Here's the thing: in the past, you've not been a nice person. Whether you were just a little nasty, you did terrible things, you were forced to be a monster, or your heart was dark to the core, it's understandable why you weren't anyone's favorite. But those days are behind you. Now, there's someone you care for, someone you want to get closer to, someone you lov- Well, they make you want to be a better person. This desire could have been a gradual realization, or you could have suddenly decided one day to improve. In the same vein, you may want a complete overhaul, yet you could also be more realistic and try to work on one thing. Still, you know that you're the only one who can change yourself. How is that going? It can't be easy, as old habits die hard. Do you have a supportive loved one — or someone who wants nothing to do with you, no matter how much you improve?

Jillia wasn't sure if she'd ever actually see him again - either because he was deceased or because he was in hiding himself - but there he was, her husband, standing outside the front gates of the garden. Pilika was in the backyard, playing with the dog, so it was just the two of them there.
After a few moments to overcome her shock, she slowly walked to the gate and opened it. ]
...
[ Maybe it wouldn't be appropriate to call him "my lord" anymore. ]
Jowy.

Not that this was his only motivation for stopping himself, but it was one of the bigger side ones.He takes a deep breath. I'm home is his second option but that has him wondering- would Jillia and Pilika still accept him? Months later and after essentially destroying the lives they might have had in Highland...
So instead, Jowy smiles gently and says: ]
Hello...
[ And firmly clamps his mouth shut so he doesn't add he was in the area. ]

Anders doesn't seem to have anyone there, for once - which makes sense, given the hour. Most everyone else is at the Hanged Man, playing cards and losing money to Isabela, but either he's been busy or lost track of time. He seems rather selfless, truthfully, running the clinic like this, wanting what he does for mages.
She agrees - how can she not, after her father, after herself, but enough people ask so much of her that it's exhausting, and sometimes it's easier to ask for coin than to worry about minding every single little thing that people can't seem to settle themselves. If she had a sovereign for every time the viscount asked something of her, she'd be even more rich than the expedition made her, but actual coin comes few and far between.
Still. That's not what she's focused on right now. ]
Don't suppose you've had second thoughts about letting me lock you up? At least then you'd be on time to cards.

Then he'd gotten lost in making up potions, taking advantage of the afternoon quiet, until Hawke's voice reaches him and Anders blinks, looking up and out to see how dark it's gotten.]
Maker, I'm sorry, Hawke. I suppose I got carried away.
[He finishes sealing up another bottle and sets it with the others, absently rubbing his hands on his sleeves as he moves to her side. His joints are aching from standing and working on the same task for so long, so a break is a good idea.]
Or I'd never get there, since I'd be locked up. [He smiles, amused by the comment.] I'm sorry, I forgot all about it. Can I make it up to you?

For Kirkwall is so full of its own shadows. Who will notice if one more slips in?
So she stands at the entrance of the little clinic, both cloack and hood keeping her hidden from... no one, actually, since it is pretty late. Well. Good. That's... good.
Takes a deep breath. If you don't do this now, you won't get another chance for a very, very long time. And let's herself in.]

[Anders only glances up enough to note that the figure isn't bleeding out or seemingly injured in the slightest, then he returns to his writing. He has to note down the potions he needs to work up in the morning, as he's too tired to recall all of it for certain. He's been running close to exhaustion for days now, and tonight he'd like to actually get some rest.
Unfortunately his guest apparently has other plans, and when the cloaked figure fails to leave, he looks up again, stands slowly and calls on his magic enough for pale wisps of light to thread through his fingers.]
I don't think you want to try anything tonight. I'd suggest leaving or letting me know what you need if you do have some reason for being here. But if you're hoping to rob me, I'm more than capable of defending myself.

Sparda || Devil May Cry
"What is it you call me for, Lady Witch?"

He stands in a circle drawn in white chalk. Five candles stand around it at the points that form a star. She stands opposite him in a circle of her own, lined with candles of her own. But they are not the same. His circle had been cast to summon and contain, while hers was to protect her from outside interference and harm. The air fairly hums with energy of her magic. It's clear she's no rank amateur, not even by a long shot.
Even so, Eva knows that if he wants out of that circle, this devil could break it. This is not what she had wanted, but she had to do something with him. He was here, and she needed to be rid of him before it was too late. But banishing him might be harder than summoning him had been.
"I didn't call for you, devil. Why did you answer my summons?"
no subject
"I heard the call and answered. I have no further answer, the creature that was coming would have attacked you the moment your circle was broken." he explained in a bored tone, a hand reaching out as if to test the magic. He knew he could break it, but he had no interest yet.
"You never answered my question."

[An hour into the party, and he was...not bored, per say, but already growing weary of the pretense. The frivolity of it all seemed like such a waste of time. Fake smiles. Even the ones that were genuine held no substance behind them. Hands waved dismissively each and every time he attempted to talk business, claiming that they were all here to have fun and a child like him should take a night off to enjoy himself, surely.]
[It didn't go unnoticed that the quickest waves were from his board members.]
[Still...sighing for the fifth time since the band had begun to play, there was little else Bruce could do but play his role. He was there to represent his family name, after all, and could do little else than his very best at making his parents proud. Shaking hands and offering polite conversation where necessary, except--]
[There.]
[Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her. Cowering by the dessert table. Her manner of dress was different. Almost blending her right in with the rest of the youth crowd, besides her wild, unbrushed hair and those perpetual circles beneath her eyes.]
[Ivy?]
[The young girl didn't seem to notice him, too busy taking full advantage of the open snack table. One hand sampling a bite from each plate while the other was shoveling the ones she seemed to like most into her pocket.]
[But...if she was here...]
[His pulse rate rose ever so slightly as he slowly darted his head around, not sure if he was anticipating or dreading the inevitable moment when he would find her in the crowd. He didn't know why she was here, or what she was up to. Only that he would find her.]
no subject
[If she's honest, she isn't sure of her reasons for being here either. Sure, there was the possibility of stealing, big money- and she hadn't missed a chance to do so. Anyone who kept a close eye on her would notice that the little purse she was wearing kept getting heavier and heavier. She'd wen have brought in a bigger purse, but that would have gotten a lot of weird looks and unwanted attention.
[But she isn't deep enough into the pit of denial to tell herself that's the only reason she's here. She might be a liar to anyone around her but she never lies to herself, that's her golden rule. And the decision to come here had been an easy one when she had realized a certain name was on the list. She isn't sure why. Maybe because he'd actually been nice to her, maybe because he's determined to do right even as everyone laughs at him to his face for it. Maybe, in some little part in the back of his brain, she feels the slightest bit guilty. Whatever the reason, she knew she was going to that ceremony. That had been the first step.
[Actually getting in had been the second step. The 'I told you so' glint on Barbara's face when she'd asked for help with her make up had almost been enough to back down, but despite everything the woman was pretty cool. She would let her believe Cat owed her one if that made we happy, she'd lost enough lately. Her own fault, of course, but still. Cat wasn't going to bite the hand that was feeding her. And she suspected Ivy also needed a bit of positive attention so rolling with it and letting her come had also been a no brainer. And sure enough, prettied up and knowing what buttons to push and what people to get close to, she was in. Maybe Barbara is right, maybe her beauty will become her best weapon.
[The third and final step? Getting Bruce's attention. That one is actually the easiest, if the way he's scanning the crowd with that 'it's on' look he gets is anything to go by. She can't make herself obvious, but if she waits for the right time, the right angle...
[There. She winks at Bruce as she snatches what looks like a very expensive watch from a gentleman's wrist and calmly walks away. He'll notice soon enough, but Cat will be away from him and on the other side of the ballroom by then, and his watch nowhere to be seen- or lost inside her purse, anyway. Now the question is: will Bruce come confront her, or will she have to up the ante?]

"Come back with money." [Gruff words spoken on a puff of cold air, a hand finding the blunette's shoulder and shoving him back out onto the street. A brief struggle. Tearful promises of sexual favors if he just helps out this one last time. Rejection and a fist to the jaw send the boy skittering out into the cold, hissing in pain and nursing a cut to the inside of his cheek.]
[He'd wander the streets for a while, at least until the sun had properly gone down, prompting him to head to one of his usual haunts. Surely someone needed company on a cold, cold night like tonight.]
[Not that he was much warmer.]
[He was visibly underfed, the hollows of his face and the bags under his eyes making him difficult to identify. He'd always been so bright, a sunny presence in an otherwise ordinary high school existence. None of that was visible now, skinny and a bit sickly, lifting the hood of his sweatshirt to shield him at least somewhat from the snow.]
[Otonashi was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hinata saw someone he vaguely remembered from that brighter, happier point in his life, and doubled back to chase him down. From there it was a long string of excuses and inappropriately timed sob stories to garner sympathy, throwing an arm around the redhead's shoulders and inviting himself over, uncomfortably close even though his clothing reeked of fire.]
what did I do
