[ He tells anyone who asks that they're "roommates".

They're not, of course they're not, but he can't exactly go around saying that Hector Barbossa is that guy he met nearly 300 years ago and they couldn't get rid of each other until they both found the Fountain of Youth, except now they really can't get rid of each other. He can't exactly say that he and Hector have houses all over the globe and sometimes, when a house he owns is too far away, he just crashes at Hector's because it's easier. He can't exactly say that he owns two key rings full of keys, one for all of his houses and one for all of Hector's houses.

(Each key has the name of a city on it, because Jack Sparrow can remember many things, but as house keys started looking more and more similar, he'd forgotten which key went to which house and it became time consuming to fit every key he owns into the lock of his own front door. And so he'd taped the name of each city onto each key and that was that.

(He'd done the same for Hector's keys. Except the keys that go to Hector's house have an "H" written on the corners in sharpie, so he knows which is which.))

They're not roommates, but it's easier and more socially acceptable to say that they are. It even works astonishingly well for when he's cussing Hector out.

But there are times when they do (reluctantly) share the same living space. Sometimes it happens by coincidence, because the world is only so big and when they have an eternity to live, it's bound to happen eventually. But sometimes it's on purpose. Sometimes they agree to meet up and be reminiscing old men and talk about the "good old days" with the only other person who understands what the 1700s were like. Sometimes (more often than not) they agree to get together and it's for an adventure, and neither of them can turn it down because pirate runs in your blood and they've been pirates longer than anything else.

And usually, after the adventures, after fear and the adrenaline and the euphoria have worn off they stumble into the closes airport and buy tickets to the next flight out that one of them owns a house at. More often than not, it's one of Jack's houses, as the majority of houses he buys are in the larger cities. For some reason, he feels more at ease within large crowds of people. They remind of of Shipwreck Cove, of Libertalia, and of Tortuga.

Besides, smaller towns give you too much time to think.

Except, this time around, the first flight out was to Key West, which is one of Hector's. They spend the plane ride arguing with each other over who fucked up the most during their adventure, shooting passive aggressive "Well if you would have done..." 's at each other. It lasts the entire plane ride and the drive to Hector's place. It's not a serious argument, even if it sounds like it is -- it's time consuming and menial, something to keep their mouths and brains working despite the fact that they've been up for 68 of the last 72 hours.

It's abruptly cut off when Hector unlocks and opens the door and Jack breezes past as though he owns the place. He doesn't even bother taking off his boots before he drops his backpack on the ground and collapses on the couch, face first. If he says anything, it's just a giant mumble that's eaten up by the pillow he's stuffed his face into. ]
