Chance Glance Meme
![]() Isn't it funny how little chance, seemingly unimportant occurrences can change our lives? You miss a morning bus, and your misfortune keeps you from being hurt in an accident. When you go out to lunch, your usual place is covered up, so you go to a new cafe where you taste a dish that makes you decide to quit your day job and become a chef. These decisions pop up all the time, even when we don't realize it until we consider the road not taken. You're about to face yet another tiny conincidence. You see someone, perhaps when you run into them on the street or as a glance caught while you're skulking on the rooftops, as you do. Whatever the case may be, you feel a spark, a connection that you've never felt with anyone else. Maybe this is the first time you've felt anything close. So, will you make the decision to ignore what your gut is telling you, that you'll regret not taking the road towards this person, or will you follow your heart - and them? One little chance to actually meet them may just change everything.

The two managed to reach an extraction point since they were without their pilot. Said pilot led quite a chase away from the facility, one that went on for over half an hour in the city. He was in no position to engage in a firefight and attract heat from local authorities on top of the Hydra soldiers on his tail. Triplett didn't have a chance to change his appearance. He had also lost communication with his team thanks to an EMP pulse needed to throw off Hydra when they had closed in at the lab.
He was quick on his feet but couldn't remain hidden for long in broad daylight. Trip had covered over three miles in the city with no end in sight. There was a number of people in the city but no crowd to hide in. Not a cab, hospital or any other public building in sight. The stores he came across didn't appear to have more than one exit. He managed to fight off a handful of Hydra soldiers (easy to spot in their uniforms) one to two at a time and was starting to grow exhausted.
Two more caught up with him on a main street and engaged without any consideration of public welfare. He stopped and met them head on rather than more civilians get hurt (being ran into or hit with debris), even if it made him lose ground and wore him down. The two were knocked out eventually with at least another four scouring the streets for him nearby. Trip could only hardly catch his breath without spotting them in his peripheral vision.
Up the street appeared to be a shopping plaza. While it could provide a change of clothes and more places to hide, he couldn't help but think of civilian casualties. It was bad enough there wasn't one siren heard after the fight that had just occurred. Trip had been able to prevent a brunette woman from injury along with a little girl but the guy with them had been shoved to the ground when Hydra approached.
Antoine helped the man up from the ground and ushered the three back before engaging with the two soldiers gunning for him. It was instinct to help others. The last thing he expected was any kind of assistance in return unless it was SHIELD. No sooner were the two uniform Hydra soldiers put to sleep thanks to a stun device made by Fitz, did Trip pile them in a nearby pile of trash left on the street for collection. More were on the way. He had to cover his tracks.
Little did he realize the brunette had been watching him longer than the exchange that took place.

She was ready to head into a shop with Kira, hoping to find her a new hat or new gloves to wear for the upcoming cold season. Felix was chattering on about one thing or another when all hell broken loose. There were men in uniforms, advancing towards them like they were on the hunt. Sarah quickly scooped Kira up in her arms, unsure if the men were part of Dyad or not. She called for Felix to run, but the attackers made the first move, shoving Felix to the ground. Thankfully there was someone else to help, someone who began to take on those strange men by himself. The brunette didn't know if he was stupid or just that good.
Regardless, Sarah checked over Felix, making sure he was okay before giving him Kira. She told him to take Kira and go, that she would meet up with him later.
It wasn't hard to trail after him, his strength was leaving him and he looked like shit. She made sure to keep her distance, staying light on her feet as she watched him continue to fight and win. He had military training, that much was obvious otherwise how else would he have survived each punch and blow. When all was said and done, she continued to trail after him until they were in a crowded street again, making it easy for her to approach him. He saved them and she owed it to him to help him out. He didn't seem like he belonged to Dyad.
She picked up her pace, moving to walk with him side by side. There was no reason to stop walking, not use they wanted to draw attention to one another.
"Need a hand?" she asked, casting a glance at him. Her eyes went back to the look at the street ahead of them, already spotting another man in uniform. She didn't waste time, grabbing his hand to take him down an alleyway and into a side door. It was an old building with very few people in it, but at least they were in the clear...for now.

Trip gave her a good look in an effort to bring back any possible memory. There was none. He didn't know the brunette who pulled him into a side entrance. "Do you know someone here? If not, we're going to get more innocent people hurt." He spoke while locking the door from inside. There was no time for thanks or introductions. He hadn't even caught his breath yet. The side door was to a basement in the building where there was a small laundry for tenants and probably the access they used to get rid of trash.
He quickly started taking off layers of clothing, beginning with his backpack then jacket, until standing shirtless. Trip used the utility sink to wash his hands then face. The water hadn't warmed up yet but there wasn't any time for that. He motioned toward a white t-shirt that was sitting at the top of a pile on a table, as if someone had taking someone else's laundry out of the dryer. While she hopefully grabbed the shirt for him, he crouched down and searched his backpack.
"I'ma thirty-two waist and thirty-six length, if you can find a pair of jeans or pants. ....Please." He stood up and quickly emptied his pockets...cell phone, wallet, loose change, pack of gum and a key ring with a few keys. "Damn it!" Trip cursed under his breath. He lowered and looked into the pockets of his jacket.

"I don't, but I know the shortcuts." She grew up in the city, she knew which routes to take, which ones to avoid. Which ones had electric fences and had unlocked doors on old buildings like this one. Without her, he would've been back into a corner by now. But, staying inside wouldn't keep either of them safe for long. Those men would find them, open the door and then they would cornered. They needed to get out, but he had to catch his breath....and change his clothes? Well...she supposed that was a good idea, but he didn't have anything to change into?
There were dryers there with fresh clean clothes in them. There might be a shirt for him to use--oh. Oh. Well, he certainly was well...built. He had a very nice body underneath all those layers of clothing. But, she had to focus. This wasn't the time to gawk, stare and try to get a free ride off of him. No, she had to keep things simple and make sure he left the building in one piece. She tore her gaze away from him, grabbing the white shirt he had gestured towards.
"Oi, calm down. You're still alive, alright?" he was either frustrated, pissed or all of the above. She began to comb through the dryers, looking for any pairs of pants that might fit him. There wasn't anything that was exactly to those measurements, but she found one pair that had the right waist, but longer length. It would have to do.
"Here," she tossed him the jeans then went combing for another shirt for him to wear. There wasn't much, but there was a power blue shirt that had old stains in it. Better than going out wearing a simple white shirt.
"Who'd you piss off t'have that many friends wantin' t'kick your arse?"

The brunette was doing as he asked in which she was given an appreciative nod before changing out of his pants. Boxer briefs didn't leave much to the imagination but the last thing he thought to worry about was modesty under the the circumstances. His boots would keep the hem of the jeans from dragging on the ground. Baggy jeans and a white t-shirt was a very different look than before, even if he had to keep his backpack with him.
"First chance we come across a ball cap, take it." Trip made quick work of getting back into his boots after slipping on the jeans. He pulled out the t-shirt to cover the waistband of his underwear and jeans he wore before slinging on his backpack. "Trust me, those guys ain't any friends of mine." Some had been once upon a time but she didn't need to know that. "Name's Antoine Triplett. Friends call me Trip," he finally introduced himself with a hand extended and the friendliest glance he could muster at the time as they exited the laundry area.
She was just a bit taller than petite when he got close, somewhere between May and Skye in height. Maybe closer to May. He was careful not to ogle her too long. Getting her friend up and the three out of harm's way wasn't enough to repay the danger she was putting herself in on his behalf. Trip was determined to get her back to the two safely and be on his way. He needed to appear on cameras or to the remaining soldiers as if he were headed out of the city before more innocent people were hurt with building sweeps.

"Sarah," came her reply, briefly shaking his hand and giving him a puzzled look. Who actually tried to shake hands while they were putting on the rest of their clothes? The friendly look on his face didn't bother her (okay maybe a little) but shaking hands? Really? He needed to focus on getting himself ready and not worry about introductions. Regardless of who he was affiliated with, Sarah saw no need to give him the rest of her name. That would take more time, time they didn't have.
"Hurry up, we need t'get t'the other side of the buildin', exit, then cut across the shopping plaza."
From there he was free to run through the rest of the city. The shopping plaza would provide with more than enough cameras for his face to be captured and recognized by the men he was running from. From there he could get out and run as fast as he'd like to different buildings and stay low. If he needed her help beyond the plaza, she might be inclined to give it. Or if anything, a name a place for him to lay low until the danger blows off.

He had returned everything to his pockets minus the cell phone which he gave another attempt at trying to turn the device on. Nothing. He tossed the device in a trashcan as they walked. He walked. Sarah nearly had to trot in keeping with his wide strides. Trip slowed his stride, not wanting to attract any unwarranted attention. It was tempting to hold her hand and give the impression of being a couple but it would mean pulling her further into his trouble.
"You shouldn't be seen with me. You should get back to your friends or family," he spoke only loud enough for her to hear with it appearing as if they were talking at all. His eyes were away from Sarah, trying to act as if he were casually looking along the building fronts and other people on the street. She seemed unusually adept at acting just as casual. At the end of the street, two Hydra soldiers turned the corner without any indication they identified him. Yet.

They were thinking along the same lines; blending in by holding hands, smiling and acting like a couple. No one would pay any attention to them. People tended to look away whenever two people displayed public affection towards each other. It was a strategy Sarah knew all too well. It was a distraction to keep everyone's eyes off the real prize. Though, it would work better if Trip wasn't walking so fast. She wasn't as tall as him, so it took her a bit longer to match each of his strides. Thankfully, he managed to slow down long enough for her to walk by him side by side and slip her hand into his.
"I know what I'm doin'. Like I said, I'll get you across the plaza then we'll break. Got it?" the question was rhetorical, one that he didn't need to answer. She made it clear she was helping him out for a short period of time. After the plaza he was on his own.
Her gaze scanned the crowd as they walked by a few stores. Her eyes landed on the two men at the end of the street. Without saying anything else, she tugged on Trip's hand, forcing them to come to a slower pace, stopping right in front of a make-shift store front. She pretended to look at the headbands, the scarves and any other knick-knacks the owner had. Her eyes were on one of the souvenir base ball hats for Trip, she just had to wait for the right moment. Sarah asked a simple question, asking how much the scarf was in the back. It caused the owner to turn around giving Sarah her back which prompted the brunette to snatch a black and white cap for him to wear. She easily slipped it behind her back, letting the shop owner know she wasn't interested anymore.
They walked away with the cap without the owner ever knowing she took it. She made sure they went into a different shop before giving him the hat.
"Here, it doesn't match but fuck it you need it."

He was vigil about his surroundings and keeping appearances to question anything further. Once she lifted a ball cap, he had to assume she was a grifter. Trip smirked when she handed him the hat. "Seriously not gonna worry about fashion sense right now," he chuckled while putting the hat on backwards. "Besides, I'm wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. --It'll work." He chose to put an arm loosely around her shoulders instead of holding hands in an attempt to show a more obvious attachment for any on lookers.
Sarah had successfully thwarted the two Hydra agents at the street end from making him. There was still a sizable distance to go until reaching the plaza. Putting an arm over her shoulders gave her access to the handgun tucked in his waistband at the small of his back, under his backpack. There was another he could quickly get to at the top of his backpack with a hand reach behind his head. He didn't think she was more than a skilled thief but couldn't be sure. Time would tell.
Then again, he didn't want to put her at risk where she'd have to go for the gun. Something about the woman told him that Sarah would do what she pleased. "I should probably be more worried about how easy that five finger discount was," he quipped only loud enough for her to hear. Trip was momentarily distracted by her perfume or whatever the scent was that drifted up to him when close. He managed to keep his eyes forward after a brief glance.
It wasn't as if he wasn't used to working with women. Trip had a great respect for them. He believed they could easily hold their own but that didn't stop him from being a gentleman. His family taught him that. In the field, he followed whatever order given regardless of gender but that didn't mean he couldn't hold a door open. Some mistook his kindness for weakness only to learn he was far from a pushover.
They were nearing the plaza with no sign of Hydra when he recognized the little girl and young man from before in the distance. Nine o'clock were a trio of soldiers. This isn't good.. Trip didn't comment out loud or let his countenance fall. He wished there had been time to trim some of his beard but avoided looking in Hydra's direction. They weren't at a storefront to slip into this time. He prepared to let Sarah go than put her in any danger.

"Whatever, just don't bitch about it later," she quipped back, not being serious on the fashion or anything of the like. As long as they looked like a couple, no one would bother them. She reached up to hold the hand that was over her shoulder. The more they claimed each other's space the easier it would be to buy the image of them as a couple. She kept a small smirk on her face as they walked, playing the part of a good girlfriend or lover. His hand felt rough in hers, probably earned it from shooting guns, or doing hard labor. One of the two, not that she would ever ask.
"It was child's play, anyone could've done it," she whispered, leaning in and letting her smile turn into a flirtatious one. As though Trip just told her something naughty that would have made any other woman blush or melt. With her free hand, she pushed her long bangs away from her face, paying attention to her looks to make sure she continued to look good for him. No one paid any attention to them, but looking ahead she nearly stopped in her tracks. She spotted her daughter and Felix, but there were other less than friendly men near by too.
Sarah's hand squeezed Trip's, opting to force him to turn the corner, letting the soldiers see more of her than him. She was going to keep Felix and Kira safe. Her little girl didn't notice her, but Felix did. He was calling her now, the phone in her pants ringing, but she ignored it. Right now wasn't the time to pick up the phone and have him bitch to her and vice-versa. She told him to take care of Kira and staying in the plaza with soldiers wasn't within the description of caring for her child.
"Change of plans. We'll take this block down. It's a longer way t'go through, but we'll hit the parkin' lot first before the streets. You should be able t'find cover there." Assuming of course no one else was following them. For both their sakes, she hoped no one was.

He couldn't help frown at the thought of getting innocent people hurt. "I'll take it from here. Get back to your family. You've done--"
"Hey! You in the cap!" a voice called from behind. Definitely Hydra. "I'm talking to you. Stop!"
Trip kept Sarah close and talked softly toward her. "Stay close. There's a gun behind my back. Safety's on. It'll be by your thumb if you need to release it." With that, he turned to face the voice with a hand still linked with hers and the other in the air. "Who? Me? What you want with--" He never finished the sentence. 'Me' became a shot from the icer pistol that was tucked behind his head in the top of his backpack.
The Hydra soldier dropped like a sack of rocks. Another turned the corner and began running toward them. Trip let go of Sarah's hand but kept himself between her and the approaching soldier. It took two shots but he dropped the other soldier. "We better keep going," he told her once the other hand fallen. "I'll double around with you and make sure your family's safe." He protectively kept a hand at the small of her back without thinking as they moved out into the open area.
It wouldn't surprise him in the least if she protested again. Hydra meant business and it didn't seem like they were giving up any time soon. Antoine was certain there hadn't been others in the plaza but it wouldn't be long before more showed up. As long as they hadn't reported Sarah being with him, they could possibly escape with the continued charade. He quickly slipped the firearm back into place behind his head.

Shite, this were about to go down really quickly.
"Bloody hell," Sarah muttered under her breath, turning around with him to give the soldier a glare. She was prepared to either be shot at or kidnapped, however Trip managed to have things under control. He knocked one soldier down and they were off running again.
"No, I'd rather stick around and be shot t'death," sarcasm hung off of every word as they ran. She felt his hand on the small of her back, guiding her as they tried to out run and hide from the enemy. Their luck was starting to run out as they dashed. More soldiers were appearing, wanting to contain both Trip and Sarah as possible.
However looking at the soldiers now, they were male. All remarkably the same and two females who looked like Sarah. The Brit's eyes went wide.
"Shite. More, there's more of 'em?!" Shit, shit, shit! What the fuck?! Were there more clones in Project Leda and Castor? What the hell was Dyad doing with all this crap?! Yes, she knew they were into some really shitty and shady businesses--wait, didn't Art say they were part of a terrorist group? Or at least they funded one? It was hard to keep track of, especially since she was facing other clones.
She didn't say anything, reaching for Trip's gun and pulling him down into a different alleyway. The rats started to flee as they ran. If the others chased them, it would give them a bit of an upper man. The clones would have to be lined up to make it through, which make them easier targets to shoot at. The bad part? It made them easy targets too.
"I'm runnin' out of ideas here. If you have any suggestions, say 'em now!"
no subject
"Where the hell are the cops around her?" Probably on Hydra payroll. The question was rhetorical as his sight searched for a way out. Trip stood and fired off three rounds, taking down one for each shot. That left two. He put a hand on Sarah again to guide her along while keeping himself between her and harm's way. "Three to five second rush to shake 'em." At his touch (more like a gentle push) he expected Sarah to move then a grab to have her stay put.
They made it out of the alley, dropping the last two and another two that appeared. Trip stopped under cover of a dumpster to take out extra magazines and reload, giving them a second to catch their breath. He realized they had circled the plaza and were coming back in from the other end. "This isn't gonna stop. I'm gonna cover you back into the plaza then head out the other end. --Let them see me run. You get to safety," he uttered while they moved.
She could argue but it wouldn't do any good. Once back to the open, he was about to usher her in the direction to move when they came upon her family once again. "Shit!" he cursed as a trio of uniformed bodies moved to intercept them. Trip saw one raise a gun, prompting him quickly into action. He wasn't sure if it was from his fire or Sarah's but the three did fall. Antoine had moved to shield the little girl who instinctively ran toward her mother. It earned him a bullet through his ribs.
Everything happened so fast, the wound didn't register. "Hey. You okay?" he worried about the little girl before her mother and uncle reached her. She appeared scared more than anything so Trip backed away. The look of horror on her Sarah's face riddled him with guilt. He had yet to notice the red staining the white shirt he wore. Burning at his side was dismissed as the exertion from what had just taken place.
He unslung his backpack and took out his jacket, draping it over the little girl who was being hugged tight by her worried mom. "It has kevlar built in. Keep it around her. Come on, let's get to a car and get you all out of--" Two more uniforms appeared and Trip was taking shots again. The man with Sarah and her daughter screamed in an almost falsetto pitch. Sirens sounded in the distance. "Now they come? Seriously?!" Trip protested while trying to get the trio to a nearby SUV.

Trip.
Shit, he was shot. He was shot! He was acting like nothing was wrong, but she could see the blood pooling around his open wound and staining his shirt. Now Kira was clinging to her, crying and had a kelvar backpack on her. Sarah's mind was racing, unable to think. She heard the sirens, heard Felix screaming...they had to act. There was no time to talk, no time to plan, they had to move. They were running towards a nearby SUV with Sarah holding her daughter closely to her. She wanted to pick her up and run, but couldn't risk her getting caught in the crossfires.
They were near the SUV when all of them heard the sound of tires screeching, an armored car suddenly appeared in view with an Asian woman driving it. The doors opened with a man in a business suit ordering them to get inside. Whoever they were, the older gentleman seemed to know Trip. Normally, Sarah would've protested, but considering the gunshots being fired at them, they had no choice. She picked up Kira, making both of them go inside. Felix followed suit and then Trip.
With everyone inside, the car raced out of the plaza heading to God knows where.
