Strangers Like Me
![]() strangers like me ( a possible feral AU meme ) Since you were young, you know you've been different, even if you didn't fully understand how. And it's more than a normal, healthy feeling of youthful isolation, because somehow, someway, you were cut off from your kind and grew up as the only one. Perhaps you had to go your life alone, though if you were lucky, you could have been taken in by another species and raised by them, as they took pity on you. It's possible that you were raised in conditions most would consider "wild," even barbarous or animalistic, and certainly not befitting someone of your kind. Of course, you don't know that. You don't even think there are others like you. Until someone like you falls into your life, by chance, by accident, or by design. At first, you go full-tilt into learning everything about this mysterious stranger and all they know about your mutual people. All these wonderful concepts, these worlds you've never dreamed of! Most importantly, now you know you're not alone. Then, things change. Your focus begins to shift to this person, more than just the information they can provide. You can't help but notice their features, so much like yours. Whenever they're around, you feel so much lighter and happier. Your heartbeat quickens. You want to see them smile. Why do you have this growing need to be beside them? You don't understand any of this and, hopefully, you're fine with that as long as you get to learn more and stay with this person, this link to your past...and your future. ʜᴏᴡ ᴛᴏ ᴘʟᴀʏ

Allen Walker / D.Gray-man / gen or shippy build-up
possessed/sharing a body with a dark entity, and because of it, he could very likely lose himself and become what is effectively a monster.
the details: (spoilers for DGM) the Fourteenth Disciple, a being called a Noah, resides within Allen. The Fourteenth pings as dark and malicious, and if your character can see souls/ghosts/etc. he hangs around behind Allen in the form of a vaguely-shaped shadow man. they say that one day, the Fourteenth will take over, and Allen will no longer be Allen. effectively, Allen is no longer human, though he thinks of himself as one.]

how you wanna do this? AU one of them into the other's world, or handwavehandwave they exist on the same dimensional plane because we say so and this is a meme so fuck da police? also, do you wanna shoot for romance in the future, or stick to gen? I mean, either way, it's gonna be gen in the beginning at the very least... I'd rather not do the feral thing though, at least for Allen's side of it. if you really wanna make Jio feral that's cool]
ooc
AUing Jio into D-Gray Man would not be overly hard. His o-part would simply have to be remade into an innocent. Or handwaving works as well. It is a meme after all so we can do whatever we feel like. Also I think strictly gen would be the way to go. Jio have after all enough problems just admitting people being his friends thanks to Satan. And skipping the feral thing is totally fine with me.]
ooc
oh yes that's right, Jio and his issues, ha. gen it is! and hmm, I think it would be fun to play out Jio being a new Exorcist or at least one Allen hasn't met yet until now. because then they're COMRADES, boom, a base for bonds to be made already. (No matter what Kanda says.) and we don't gotta try to fit Jio's "host for Satan" thing into the rules of DGM because fuck the police this is a meme and we're here to have FUN!!!
do you wanna start or shall I? :>]
ooc
Yes that would be fun. Belonging somewhere would be so confusing to Jio, but he would kind of like it, even while trying to not get all too close to people for their own safety. Allen will have on hell of a job getting through his walls. And if weapons can basically posses humans then I see no problems adding demons into the mix as well. It would just give them a bit more work to do.
Do you think you could start? Newly awake and soon off to work and then my brain won't work properly for a few hours after I get back home.]

yeah, sure! we can't make the world of DGM any wackier than it already was, right? I'll fire this out and then I'm headin' to bed. I think we're on opposite ends of the earth, haha. it's just shy of 5am rn. if you want me to change anything or give you more background info as a refresher, lemme know! :>]]
[Allen walks the halls of the Black Order's new HQ, rebuilt after an extensive attack from the Level 4 AKUMA. Allen's just gotten back from a mission in Germany, and he had been headed to the cafeteria--but Jerry, the cook, mentioned that a new Exorcist had joined not that long ago. Wanting to greet his new comrade before they're shipped off, Allen just grabbed a precariously balanced stack of sandwiches and mitarashi dango and headed off. (The mitarashi dango skewers help to keep it together! It's strategy!) Maybe he could offer a "Welcome to the Black Order" sandwich!
Wait a minute . . . Allen realizes he doesn't know what the new Exorcist looks like. He heard some Finders whispering about a new guy with weird hair though. Maybe that was him? He'd have to keep a lookout for anyone else with shock-white hair. Maybe it would become a trend, ha. (Please no.)
He just hopes whoever it is hasn't gotten assigned to Generals Zokalo or Cross for training, if they needed it at all. Kloud and Tiedoll seem nice enough, they would be much better. But Zokalo is kind of...scarily crazy, and Allen wouldn't wish his Master on anyone, he's a demon--]
Oh! [Allen sidesteps and twirls away from a body he nearly ran into while lost in thought. The sandwich tower teeters dangerously] Excuse me, I didn't see you . . . Oh! You wouldn't happen to be the new Exorcist, would you?

That is true for most worlds in manga no matter what they are about. Highly likely that we are. Most people I thread with tends to live in America and I myself live in Europe.]]
[It had not been his choice coming here. Jio had been perfectly fine living his life travelling and working as a bodyguard for hire. But things had changed when he found that odd bracelet. He had bought it because it looked like he could make a profit out of it. However it did not take long until those creatures that he now had learned were called AKUMA went after him.
At first he had fought until like he always did, with his fists or whatever he got his hands on that could work as a weapon. It had not worked. By pure change had he grabbed the bracelet and it had reacted, turning into some kind of discus-boomerang-shuriken. Seriously he had no idea what it were supposed to be, but it worked to fend them off. Not that defeating them gave him much rest until another wave came and they had been stronger. And that pattern went on until someone with a black uniform showed up, defeated the AKUMAS that had gathered and more or less just dragged him away with little explanation on what the hell it all were about.
Of course now he had been informed about it all. And while he still wasn't overly happy about being dragged around without his permission, he joined the Order. Better to stick around with those that knew stuff about the threat out there. And even if he would simply hand the Innocence over the world wasn't safe no matter where he went.
So the last days he had spent trying to get used to being around so many people at once while still being distant. It would be better for everyone if a wall would stay between him and the rest. Safer.
He had been called to try out his new uniform that felt comfortable, but still incredible weird to have on when someone almost walked straight into his back. If he had not been so caught up in his own thoughts Jio would easily had avoided any mishap. As it were one of the sandwiches fell from the top of that mountain, but luckily he managed to caught it before it hit the floor.
Being spoken to, Jio turned his red and green eyes up to see that the owner to the sandwich mountain was someone close to his own age and with white hair. If it wasn't because half of his own were white he would have thought that as strange.] I am. [Standing back from his crouch position that he had gotten into to save the food, he put it back on its original place.] You dropped this.

oh, neat! yeah, I'm in midwest America, haha. also, sorry this reply is so short . . .]]
[Allen smiles in response, unperturbed by the guy's heterochromia. He really couldn't talk, after all, what with his cursed eye. The hair is stranger--maybe he dyes it?]
Ohh, you have good reflexes. Thank you. Actually, you can keep it! Or something else in my stack that won't make it fall over . . . Consider it a welcome present!
[Not wanting to talk around a stack of food, Allen turns his body to the side, so he can talk to his new comrade properly]
I'm Allen Walker, another Exorcist. I can't really shake your hand right now, but . . . it's nice to meet you!

I don't need anything. [But his eyes lingered on the mountain for a second. It wasn't like him to waste food after all or pass up free food. However he did not need to worry about that in this place.]
Jio Freed. I have to go.
[Jio turned to walk away. He really had nowhere he needed to be at the moment. He was just trying to avoid another conversation. He could not make friends or anything that could be seen as friends. It would be nice to have one, but too dangerous in the long run.]

[She speaks softly, enunciating the syllables of her name. But when doesn't she with him? This boy that they've brought back from those uncharted wilds barely speaks english; hadn't been able to when they first found him. It's been months now, and Naminé has been steadily working with him, Roxas, they've called him. He responds to it about as well as a dog that's learned it's name. Still, progress is progress, and they're making it. Incrementally.
It's been very enlightening, this kind of study. Nature versus Nurture and the like, and here was this boy, who had survived likely from childhood in a forest full of undoubtedly deadly animals all his life and done it alone.
She taps her pencil lightly on her notepad. It's her turn today, to see if she can get anymore information out of Roxas, anything about his life or how he'd lived it.]

Na-mi-né. [ He brings his fist to the front of his chest, over his heart, and sits up taller. ] Roxas.
[ He knows how introductions are supposed to work, at the very least, or at least that the sequence of sounds that makes up her name is something he should respond to with what they call him. He's learning steadily. He nods to her, forming his mouth around the words: ]
I remember.

[She scratches something down in her book, the smile clear on her face. He's gotten better, so much better with time. Flashcards might still be out, he can't really read yet, or at least he can't read most words that they might have.]
Do you want to start today?
[Their topic, is what she means. Naminé is usually the one who takes charge with that too, tells him how various things work, or how westernized people act. He might not understand everything she's saying, but she knows that there must at least be some small measure of understanding, at least in her tone.]
no subject
He strings her words together, slowly surmising her meaning out of them. His eyes blink downward and then back to her with a slow nod. Then, with a smile raising onto his lips, he raises a finger to her. ]
Naminé. [ He tries to pull her name together more fluidly on his mouth. ]
no subject
[She doesn't even know where to begin with something like that. It's both a broad and small subject. What kinds of things does he want to know? Her life isn't terribly interesting, or at least she thinks it isn't.
The most interesting thing that's happened to her is Roxas.]

I guess... I'm pretty average. I'm working towards an art major- that's for the pictures, remember those? I don't think I'd even be here if it weren't for you. You don't really get along with anyone else, I guess, so the university is using me as a stand in. [She'd gone to the jungle to sketch wild birds and rare mammals as part of a sort of live art study when they'd found him.] I have a part time job, but I haven't been able to make it in awhile since I'm here with you. I live alone and I have a cat named Simba.
[She just lists off facts about herself, once she thinks must be dreadfully boring, but if Roxas wants to hear, if it might help him learn to speak more or encourage him, she'll do it. She likes him, after all. Maybe she had been a little frightened when she had first met him, but now... She knows that he's gentle, despite where he had come from and how he had lived.]

Simba. [ He smiles, as if the name would be familiar to him. It's a nice name. He remembers what a cat is; she had shown him pictures of it in a book, and he's happy to recognize what it is. He points to her again. ]
Family? [ Does she have one? She tried to explain this term to him the other day. ]
no subject
I have one. My mother and father are distant, though. I don't have any siblings either. [She shakes her head, before she remembers that he might not know that word.] That is, I don't have any brothers or sisters. I live alone, and I have for the past while.
no subject
He hears the word "alone" and immediately associates it with another word from his vocabulary. His smile dissolves, and he quietly studies her expression. As far as he knew, this word was connected to a whole emotion; it can be felt strongly all at once, or it can quietly permeate all moments of the day. He gestures to her with a whole hand. ]

She'll then arrive at the place where Takumi was hidden. And on her hand, she's carrying what seems to be a bag containing a single bento box.]
Mr. Wolf, it's me! I brought some lunch!
sounds like fun 8 )
Honestly he just wanted to join them, but lately it was hard trying to maintain his human form for too long. Which was why he had been hiding out in the woods. When he picked up on Mio's foot steps, he's turning his head towards her.]
Why'd you come back here for? Didn't I tell you to get lost, kid?
[His words may have been more than welcoming, but it's all ruined with the way his tail is happily wagging.]
it will be
Really? You're still going to be that way?
[But she knew he wouldn't stay like that for too long. Those days of visiting the Wolf Orphenoch was enough for her to pick up a few of his traits. It helped when his tail even indicated how he really felt.
She'll then approach the Orphenoch and offer him a bag.]
I bet you're hungry, so I made some rice balls for you. Have you tried them before? They're really good.
no subject
It smells good.
[That wasn't much of an answer, really.]
no subject
Here. Try one.
no subject
The moment its up to his face he seemed to be more intent on sniffing it rather than taking a bit. Talk about a weirdo.]
no subject
What's wrong? You don't like it?
no subject
It's nothing.
[Lowering the food away from his face for a moment he fell quiet as he concentrated his energy into taking a more human like form. He figured, it was alright to show his other form around this girl. She did to like him enough to keep on returning, anyway.
Having reverted into his human form, he'll raise the rice ball back up to take a bite from it.]
no subject
Mio lets out a gasp of surprise, leaving her mouth gaping open upon seeing the wolf man shift to his human form. She was so surprised she almost dropped the lunch box she was holding.]
Mr. Wolf...? You're actually a person?
no subject
Not really. I can't stay in this form for too long.
no subject
Is that why you were hiding from everyone else?
[Because she's starting to see why, if she's right about this of course.]
no subject
I'm a dangerous monster. What other reason do I need?
[Says the guy who's currently sitting and eating lunch with a tiny girl. Very convincing.]
no subject
[Well, her parents and the rest of the townsfolk did tell their own kids to stay away from the woods all because of him. But after meeting him up close, he doesn't seem so bad. Maybe those grown-ups just didn't understand. It's not like they met him face to face and all...
And seeing that he finished that rice ball--]
So, was it good?
no subject
You're a good kid.
[If he was still in his wolf form, no doubt his tail would return to wagging.]
Your food's not half bad either.
no subject
Really? I'm glad to hear it! Thanks, Mr. Wolf!
[She'll settle the lunch box on her lap and take one rice ball from it. But she won't start eating just yet. So she'll turn to face the older man once more, still beaming at him.]
Ah, you can go ahead and take another. I made this for us to share after all.
no subject
...thanks.
[There's another smile from him as he reached down to take another one.]
Do you make these often?
no subject
I always cook meals for my Dad and I before going to school. But it's usually a different meal every day. So one day it's rice balls, another day is fried chicken, and then another day would be sandwiches.
WHOOPS IT'S HAPPENING ANYWAY
That's why, when he catches a glimpse of a white wolf-like figure in the distance one day, he feels he has to investigate. After all, what if this is that someone? If not, maybe it's a local wolf he can get information from, at least. What could possibly go wrong??]
no subject
While he was out he immediately picked up on Gabu's scent. He'll take the moment to hide behind a nearby bush to try and observe whoever it was that was on his trail.]
no subject
So Takumi will likely see him turning in circles, sniffing around all over trying to find the source of the scent and even sitting up on his haunches like a ferret at one point to see if he can see where that wolf went. Man, he is so good at this tracking thing. He doesn't even realize he's probably being watched.]
