[Ariel had been looking forward to tonight, but she found her anticipation turning to sheer nerves. She'd had a vague idea of what to expect in theory, from the giggling and whispers of her older sisters, but that had been before, when she'd had a tail instead of legs. But she trusted Hans - why wouldn't she? he'd been nothing but the perfect gentleman, and she wanted to make him as happy as he made her. The place between her legs felt strange thinking about him, a good kind of strange that she was entirely unused to. She stands in her bedroom - their bedroom, she corrects herself, smoothing out the creases in her wedding dress and waiting for her Prince to arrive.]

[Truthfully, there's well over a dozen reasons why Ariel shouldn't trust Hans, but any evidence of those reasons has been kept under lock and key with a considerable amount of finesse. He'd been skeptical of his own intentions at first, uncertain as to whether a mermaid of all creatures would truly be desirable as a bride, even with the obvious adjustments to her physique. The allure of a stake in an underwater kingdom, however, was not something Hans could easily turn away from.

So it had lead to wooing which had lead to a proposal that had brought them to the auspicious day of their wedding. Hans enjoyed the festivities well enough, but it's the part that comes after that he holds a particular interest in. Now that his hand in the two kingdoms and in marriage had been secured, he isn't so distracted that he can't appreciate how beautiful his wife is. Beautiful and.. odd. Really, but endearing enough to be tolerable.

It's all too easy to maintain his charming role as the day progresses, he steps in the bedroom after her and admires her for a moment before approaching and placing a hand on the small of her back.]

I thought we'd never get a moment to ourselves. [He sighs out a chuckle, moving in to press a kiss to Ariel's temple before he winds around her so he can take both of her hands in his and stand in front of her.] Now I don't have to share you with anyone else.

( you know that feeling you get when you come to a realization that has been eluding you for the better part of forever? that epiphany, the light at the end of the tunnel, the one thought that finally brings everything around full-circle, puts all the pieces where they should be and fits them together as perfectly as if they were always a whole, single unit?

this one. this one right here. has been avoiding that realization for a couple of months now. it's the proverbial elephant in the room, something he can always see out of the corner of his eye and refuses to look at fully, the shadow at his heels that leans over his shoulder and occupies every waking thought regardless of whether he wants it to or not. ( every waking thought, and sometimes those sleepy thoughts that catch him unaware in the middle of the night, too, when his guard isn't quite up to snuff as it should be, and he lets his mind wander. )

it's a realization that he feels guilty for. because all the fuss he's put up, after having gone through the bath house to rescue kanji, and then that whole mess that was the camping trip … who in the hell would expect him to come to a realization like this? it's stupid. it's pointless. it's not –

okay, it's true. it doesn't matter which way he tries to look at it; upside-down, sideways, diagonally, cross-eyed, it's true. and no matter how adept he is at denying the things deep inside his heart, he's at least learned that he can try to lie to himself all he wants, but it's going to eventually come back to bite him in the ass.

he has Feelings. that's the stupidest damn word he can think of, but it's the only thing that really fits. he has Feelings for souji.

and he has to figure out a way to either get over them or … tell him about them. the former, he would prefer. because that's the easier road to take. it's quiet, no one gets hurt, he doesn't have to expose himself as the one thing he's been convincing himself he isn't since the moment he'd started having these feelings in the first place, and –

it's gonna have to be the latter. damn it, he's gonna have to tell him.

but do you think he's going to come right out and do it?

of fucking course not.

yosuke hanamura is probably one of the most awkward people in the entire universe when it comes to talking about his feelings, and it's so much easier to turn all of that in on himself than let it out that he ends up clamming up around souji whenever the other speaks to him. this happens a couple of times, a couple of days in a row, and even though souji hasn't said anything to him about it, he knows it has to be coming. but he can cross that bridge when he comes to it, right? all of that not-thinking-about-things-when-they-really-matter is going to end up paying off, right?

no, honey. it isn't. it's just a matter of time before this, like everything else, comes around to bite you in the ass.

you only have two cheeks. you'd better start thinking proactively.
