Took You In Shipping Meme

The TOOK YOU IN Shipping Meme
They were on your front door, in your yard, or on the street, confused and clearly in no position to fend for themselves; in a worst case scenario, they were bruised and battered, possibly close to death. Bleeding heart or not, you can't just be so cruel as to let them suffer. They need a place to stay, and you'll open your home to them...long enough to get back on their feet, anyway.
Speaking of feet, the shoe could be on the other one. You're worse for the wear - in a new place, possibly injured, certainly not in the best state of mind. You could not even remember how you got here or who you are to get here, for that matter. You may not want to remember. Whether willing or not so willing, you're in no position to turn down help, especially if said helper won't take no for an answer. No matter how dedicated you are to looking after yourself, there's only so much you can do in your position.
The two of you are staying together, at any rate. Only for a while, the plan is. But after said while, even though strength and confidence is returning to the injured, there's something a little different between you two. It could be the close quarters, the kindness shown, or a number of things, but quietly, softly, feelings have grown. Could more confusion and hurt spring from this? What about when it's time to go? Can the temporary resident leave as easily as they intended? You're so close now, perhaps a little while longer can't do any harm...
...until whatever it was that put them in such a perilous position in the first place comes back, and there could be "justice" for anyone who's dared to help.
RULES
- Comment with your character and preferences. Say if you'd rather play the taken in or the person taking them in.
- Reply to others.
- There's no smut option because I'm making a companion smut meme to this for TLH in the next few days, but you can play smut if you really want to!
PROMPTS
- ғɪɴᴅɪɴɢ — Who's that? They're no ordinary passersby! Were they in an accident? Are they foreign? ...should you approach them?
- ʀᴀɪɴ, ʀᴀɪɴ, ɢᴏ ᴀᴡᴀʏ — The elements make this night no time to sleep out of doors.
- ʙᴀᴄᴋ ᴛᴏ ʜᴇᴀʟᴛʜ — Cuts, broken bones, injuries all of sorts...you have to stitch them back up, then make sure they don't get any
- ɢᴏᴏᴅ ɢᴜᴇsᴛ — It's all you can do to show gratitude to the person who took you in. Fix them a meal, care for their house, whatever you can do once you're able.
- ʙᴀᴅ ɢᴜᴇsᴛ — FUCK THIS PERSON AND FUCK THEIR COUCH. You didn't ask to be brought here. Let them clean up after you, you don't even care.
- ᴡʜᴏ ᴀᴍ ɪ? — How you got into this situation is a mystery. Even more of a mystery is your identity, and why the person you were would be so displaced.
- sᴇʟғʟᴇssɴᴇss —
- ʟᴇᴀʀɴɪɴɢ — If you've been injured badly enough or can't remember all too well, you might have to relearn a good deal. Luckily, you have a helping hand.
- sᴄᴀʀs — Scars from the encounter that lead you here or scars from prior, you don't want them to see either. You still have your secrets to keep.
- sᴛᴜʙʙᴏʀɴ — Ugh, your house guest is so stubborn! They always get up when they should be resting, have the worst habits, and completely disrespect your home! You'll get to them, one way or another. Or you'll throw them out. You don't want to, but you will.
- ᴄᴏᴍғᴏʀᴛ — Bad memories or nightmares wreck you; your host and nurse comes to your side unexpectedly.
- ᴄᴜʟᴛᴜʀᴇ ᴄʟᴀsʜ — The person who's taken you in is from a different culture or lifestyle than you, and adapting is harder than you thought.
- ᴄʀᴇᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ ғᴇᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ — Think learning about a new culture is hard? Try being a different species. Can you keep your little eccentricities at bay for the good of your station?
- ᴊᴇᴀʟᴏᴜsʏ — Now that your emotions towards your caretaker/host/jailer are softening, you're finding yourself unusually jealous of those in their life who were close to them before.
- ɴᴇᴡ ᴀᴄᴛɪᴠɪᴛɪᴇs — You never thought you'd have fun after all that's happened, yet such simple gestures as a picnic or a movie make all the difference.
- ʀᴇᴀʟɪᴢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ — You love them, this person who's taken you in or this person you've found. It's not a pity or a thankfulness, it's love, and you know that now. What you choose to do with this information is
- ʜɪsᴛᴏʀʏ — Suddenly, the person who's been so nice to you finds out that the two of you have a history. You killed their loved ones or caused something terrible. How can they forgive you?
- ᴘʀᴏᴛᴇᴄᴛ — So much has been done for you. The least you can do in return for the one who helped you at your lowest is make sure they never have such a low point.
- ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀ ᴄᴏᴍᴇs ᴋɴᴏᴄᴋɪɴɢ — Anyone in the way of getting to you will be destroyed, and that includes the person you're staying with.
- ʟɪᴠᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴛʜᴇᴍ — You've been given a home, maybe which you've never had before. You don't want to leave.
- ʀᴏᴍᴀɴᴄᴇ — Not only are you living with them, but you're starting a proper life with them.
- ʀᴇᴠᴇᴀʟ — All secrets are laid out on the table. You've decided to tell about your past and what lead you here.
- ʀᴇᴠᴜʟsɪᴏɴ — What you've done and who you are is so heinous, they want nothing more to do. You're to leave their home and leave them alone.
- ᴀᴄᴄᴇᴘᴛᴀɴᴄᴇ — It doesn't matter what they've done. You've opened your home and your heart to them, and nothing's changed.
- ᴘᴀʀᴛɪɴɢ — All things must come to an end. No matter what you feel for each other, it's time to leave. Hopefully, you'll see each other again.
- ʜᴀᴘᴘɪʟʏ ᴇᴠᴇʀ ᴀғᴛᴇʀ — Come what may, you've decided to stay at your new home with the person you love. Now, it's safe enough to do so.

And he twitches with the urge to jump, but it quickly turns into a good-natured (if apologetic) smile. He lived a secluded life personally back home, so when he settled into mundane situations, he wasn't used to others being around. It got away from him just a bit. ]
Hey. Did you finish? I'm surprised there's broadcasts by others like us in this place. It makes the information easier to relate to, anyway.
[ Coco stop talking. The thought crosses his mind that Heine may want him to pack up and leave, however, and suddenly he feels like a bit of a nuisance. ]
no subject
Yeah. Stuff that's normal here is still pretty weird.
[ what coco's thinking isn't clear to heine, but he does see the way he stops talking and the change in posture. ]
...do you want to watch something else?
no subject
It seems that way. And it's fine; I've been enjoying it. If you'd like to change it then by all means, please. I should... probably check if it's still raining. I'm sure you'll want your sweats back soon.
[ His smile is a little sheepish as he pinches the material as if to demonstrate, but there isn't much give. They're especially tight at the hips through the thighs, showing off a little more than was appropriate. Heine's proximity wasn't helping much either. ]
no subject
[ and as for the rain—heine glances out the window, but the curtains are half drawn and there's not much to see but the dark night, lights on in the city, and streaks of water on the glass. ]
Where were you going to go? [ the dryer is probably done running by now, but heine doesn't think there's any point in sending coco out now. it's not like he's bad company. he slouches back on the couch, pulling his feet up to sit cross-legged. ] You can just stay. For the night.
no subject
I suppose that's true... [ And then he offers Coco a place to stay for the night, and he's nearly embarrassed to admit his plans. ] I had a bit of the currency I exchanged from my own country, so I was hoping to find a tent to purchase somewhere. Set it up on high ground, or under some sort of outcropping. Until I settled in more and found a job and a place to live while I'm here. ...Thank you, again. I realize I've said so a couple times, but I'm serious. For your hospitality. It's very selfless of you to take in a stranger and I do honestly appreciate it. If there's anything I can do, please let me know and I'd be more than happy to do it.
[ He smiles, a small lopsided and nervous thing because this has... never happened to him before. He has his manners and etiquette and absolutely no experience in being taken in by a stranger, so all he can do is hope to cause as little of a nuisance and possible and try to do as much as he can to help. ]
no subject
Like I said. It's dangerous to try camping around here. [ not so much due to the wildlife, more to do with the people. he rests an elbow on the arm of the couch. alternating between what's playing on the tv and brief eye contact with coco, he shrugs again lightly. the praise, motivated by etiquette as it may be, is utterly unfamiliar to heine. he tries to shrug off the odd feeling in his chest. ]
You already made food. It's fine, seriously.
[ vaguely, he wonders if coco will be even able to lie down on the couch tonight. well, they'll cross that bridge when they come to it. he slouches further over the couch arm before thinking of something. ]
You want to watch a movie?
aaaaand segue into thread merging
All right, if you're sure. [ His tone is dubious, but as Heine relaxes on the arm of the couch, Coco tries to do the same, reclining back into the scratchy fabric of the cushions and crossing one leg over the other, ankle resting on the opposite knee. At the mention of a movie, his brows raise. ]
A movie? I suppose so. Did you have something in mind? [ He really isn't picky, and it's not as if he'd seen anything offered here in the first place.
The notion in itself is a comfortable one; who didn't have good memories of settling in and watching a movie? Goosebumps race up his arms and down his chest with a faint shiver, only awakening the throbbing in his head once again. He thought he'd finally put that beast to sleep, but here it was roaring and carrying on again. He'll try to play off the way he rubs at his temple, fingers burying in thick black hair to give himself something of a scalp massage. ]
it's as if we planned this all along
but a movie will be ample distraction, he figures. heine shrugs and slides off the couch to the stand that the tv is set on. ] I've got some.
[ half of them are joke gifts from friends and acquaintances, but a few are movies that he actually likes. heine takes out a psychological drama, some explosion-rich action flick, and... a documentary on whales. he can't remember where he got the last one. he turns back with the three of them in his hands to see coco looking dizzy again and trying to apparently soothe the pain away. ]
You want an aspirin?
onhonhon but we did monsieur
A DOCUMENTARY ON WHALES. Heine pls. When he turns back and offers the movies (and an aspirin), Coco offers a sheepish quirk of a smile and waves a hand. ]That's all right, I shouldn't be taking any medicine. [ With how his system produces any chemical mixture, taking in anything additional would be a disaster. ] It's not unbearable, but thank you for the offer. How about the middle one? [ The action flick. He's trying to deflect Heine's attention, not wanting to impose any further than he has already. ]
no subject
Okay. [ He holds up the middle DVD. There are gratuitous explosions on the cover, as well as two people walking away from them with sunglasses on. ] This one?
[ Once confirmed, he crouches down by the DVD player and puts it in, changing the TV settings to start the movie before sitting back down on the couch. He pulls his feet up again, ankles crossed. The plot isn't groundbreaking, and he's seen the movie before. Still, better to focus on it. Occasionally, he does glance over at Coco, trying to make sure that he isn't about the pass out. He does know some about concussion treatment, thankfully. ]
If it's too loud, you can turn it down.
I'm gonna pee on everything you love for these movies
When Heine settles back down on the couch and he can nearly feel the warmth off of him, another wave of goosebumps fly down his skin with a tiny shiver. The movie begins and it's still difficult to focus, the smell of pasta lingering in the air giving the small apartment a touch of homeyness. It's comfortable. Having someone sitting beside him, food in the air and settling down for the night.
It's even more difficult to stay awake. ]
All right, thank you. It's fine for now, anyway.
[ It isn't even ten minutes in and he'll start to nod off, head tipping forward and fingers stilling in their small circles before he snaps back upright with a sharp breath. He feels Heine's eyes on him, glancing over to meet them and looking sheepish once again. If he pulled his legs up and got truly comfortable, there's no doubt he'd fall right asleep. He's at ease here, even in the presence of a stranger. It doesn't feel that way anymore, like he's learned enough about Heine and shared enough in return that they could at least claim that much— not quite friends, but a little more than passing recognition. It's nice. ]
I won't be very good company if I fall asleep now, would I?
[ That's to be avoided at all costs with a concussion in the first place, but an explosion on screen already pulls his attention back, even as the colors swim offbeat for a long moment. He was slowly reigning his senses back in properly, and things were beginning to seem natural once more— the car from the explosion lands with a sickening crunch of metal and a body of some villain falls out of the trunk, a broken heap of flesh and black fabric with a dramatic last promise on his dying breath. The main partners were too busy putting on their sunglasses and walking away to hear it, likely, and the scene cuts to a followup investigation. Did he miss something in the interim??? Movies like this are still a strange concept to him. ]
no subject
[ Heine leans a little toward him, trying to discern the state of the wound on his head. It's difficult to see through his hair, though, and Heine doesn't want to get too far into his personal space. Especially not when he can sort of see the bulge of something in the front of his pants. For one thing, it's awkward. And two, he's feeling some urges he doesn't want to act on right now.
The events on-screen finally draw Heine's attention back. The explosions are pretty damn loud and attention-catching. But Coco doesn't look like he's following along that well. ] They're just trying to catch the guy who killed his girlfriend and the other guy's brother.
...it's pretty bad. But it'll keep you awake.
[ His feet are bare, and he considers going to search for socks. Considering that, it seems pretty likely that Coco's also feeling the chill of the room. ]
I'll get a blanket or something. [ He slips off the couch and pads off to his bedroom. ]
no subject
I see. They didn't know each other before this? It's not bad; I've never watched movies like this before. I like it.
[ It isn't doing a good job of keeping him awake, though, as promised. Quite the opposite. The cozy atmosphere is only lulling him further away, especially once Heine leaves the room and he doesn't have active company.
It'll be a close call when Heine returns, Coco nodding off and having pulled one leg up on the couch, curled up as much as his size would allow. His head's slipped out of his hand and down his arm, resting in the crook of his elbow on the arm of the couch, lips parted just enough to give way to his slow breathing. ]
no subject
He returns with a comforter balled up in his arms for easy carrying, though a corner of it is dragging near the floor anyway. Heine hefts it up and tosses it onto the couch before climbing up on his knees next to Coco, closer than before. ]
Hey. [ Lightly putting a hand on his knee. ] Stay awake. I brought a blanket.
no subject
But sleep is so very tempting, and his body yearns for rest to stitch back together and recover from his silly little accident in the forest. The sofa dips with Heine's weight and he can feel it through his legs, as well as the instant warmth the comforter had soaked up from Heine's body trailing over his shins. He's half-aware and nearly fallen when that hand touches down on his knee and he fights to open his eyes, lids still heavy even as he turns to look over his shoulder. ]
Was I— [ He doesn't have to finish his sentence; he can feel the way his body seemed to regret having to wake back up. Yes, he was asleep, for all of ten seconds. His arm is a little shaky when he props himself up once more, not failing to notice Heine's closeness. He can feel the warmth from him, thin as a rail though he may be. ]
Ah, thank you. I'm sorry, I suppose I can't be trusted after all, haha. Are you cold...?
[ He's already pulling one end of it up over his torso, but he has no qualms about sharing. He isn't terribly shy, and Heine didn't seem the type to have ample amenities laying about. This was probably his only comforter. ]
no subject
Just stay awake. Keep talking, I guess.
[ Without admitting that he is chilly, Heine takes up the edge of the comforter and pulls it over his legs. The movie's continuing to play, displaying the protagonists jumping a large fence and charging into a... bank, it appears. Heine knows they're trying to track down the bad guy or whatever, but the reasons (other than simple revenge) have always escaped him.
Trying to get under the blanket also puts him closer to Coco, but he's okay with it. More okay than he thought he'd be, actually. Heine's not usually intimidated by size, and something about Coco's presence is oddly comforting. ]
They're going after the guy's boss. Because he's the one who ordered the kills.
[ As he talks, Heine ends up tucking the blanket under his legs and around his shoulders. Coco is really warm, dammit. ]
no subject
I think I've about run out of things to talk about; I'm not a very interesting person. Do you have any friends you miss, from where you came from? I was in the forest today thinking about some of mine.
[ He finds it hard to believe Heine has nothing important to him. Nothing he likes. No one he loves. Everyone has something, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. Heine's edging further beneath the blanket and Coco does the same, pulling it up to cover his stomach and curling one hand in the edge, mostly covering one shoulder as he curls up under it and tries not to encroach in Heine's personal space. ]
Ahhh, I see. [ I literally have no idea if this is based off some real movie but I'm gonna pretend Coco understands the motive that Heine can't Let's Get Mystical. ] That makes sense. They're united in a cause that brought them together for their revenge, no? This man is all that stands between them and the justice their loved ones deserve, but at least now they also have each other to understand what they've lost and what they've gone through. It's shared experience.
[ He's waking back up a bit more, engaged in the story. He's getting a handle on it and the directing seems to smooth out. The only thing that throws him is excessive editing, cutting scenes off abruptly and moving to something else with questions left unanswered. Any form of film he had back home was mostly news and cooking shows, as he only received local stations as far away as he'd removed himself from Gourmet Fortune. ]
no subject
Looks like you were thinking too much about them. [ Since he got a concussion and all. But there's no malice in Heine's tone when he says that, just slight amusement. He goes silent again while considering an answer. ]
Some. They might be better off here, but... [ He shrugs. ] They can take care of themselves.
[ Even though that's not really what Coco was asking, Heine interprets it that way; he'll take practicality over sentiment, always, if only because sentiment is a difficult concept for him. As for the movie (that we are 100% making up so it ok), simple as the motives could be, Heine takes Coco's interpretation as truth because he hasn't thought about them, himself.
Heine watches the movie play silently for a few seconds, as the two protagonists share an emotional moment after blowing up some other building. Well, it's supposed to be emotional. Heine judges their acting abilities critically. ]
You haven't seen many movies, have you?
no subject
Has it been a long time since you've seen them?
[ Travel wasn't exactly easy from this place. Too far from other cities, and too expensive to really save money. Coco wasn't having many problems in the monetary regard so much as finding a place he liked and a place to fit in. The people were a little too jaded to really take up fortune telling, but perhaps a little tea and herbal remedy shop...
Sentiment is clearly something he excels at. At Heine's observation, Coco laughs, a soft little thing. ]
Not really, no. Is it that obvious? Where I used to live, it was a bit secluded. I just had the local stations for news and weather updates. Some cooking shows. Television didn't interest me much. Are you warm enough?
[ The comforter is soaking up his body heat, and he's falling into a cozy state once more, sinking into the couch. He bends his arm to rest his hand under his head on the arm of the couch, trying not to think about how close they were. He's a good deal more fond of Heine than he probably should be, for all his brusque behavior. The other man seemed to be insinuating himself into Coco's space and stealing bits of his warmth, and it was nice. His first friend in this town. ]
no subject
[ He's half-serious about the warning. Heine doesn't think Coco is an airhead, just that he seems too focused on things that can't be attained here sometimes. It's dangerous that way. ]
Just a guess. [ Heine shifts underneath the comforter, pulling it back up over his shoulders when it slips down. Not moving around and being in the rain earlier has made him colder than he realized. The desire to press himself into that gap between Coco's body and the back of the couch is slightly too strong, but he still resists. ] I'm fine. You're the one not wearing a shirt. [ And therefore probably feeling how cool Heine's skin is where it brushes against his. ]
It's, uh, not a very good movie. [ Tipping his head at the screen. ] Just fun to watch.
no subject
If the pain helps me remember them a little better, I'll risk it.
[ He's half-joking in reply, a little laugh sneaking out with his smile. Had he voiced his opinion, though, Heine would've been right in that. Coco was still busy looking back at his past over his shoulder when he should be paying attention to what's in front of him. ]
Maybe you should be the fortune teller instead of me, haha.
I'm also used to camping out. [ The cool brush of skin doesn't escape him; in fact, it only makes him sleepier, wanting nothing more than to drift off to sleep right here with someone else against him and the warmth of the comforter over his body, curled up on the couch. He probably didn't have a concussion. It should be fine. He isn't sure how much longer he can fight it, anyway. ]
No! [ A little abrupt in how quickly he replies, eyes widening to resemble something like "alert". ] No, I'm enjoying it very much. I'm just not sure how much longer I can fend off sleep. The movie's wonderful.
[ The explosions light up the room and he looks sincere about it, even if it's hard for him to stay propped up. His lids go heavy once more, every blink lingering closed longer and longer each time his lashes lower, even with the grand finale coming up so soon. He's beat, he's comfortable, and he's taken care of in someone else's presence. There isn't much more he could ask for in life. ]
no subject
Nor does he believe that Coco is really enjoying the movie. It can't be that good. Heine glances at the screen again, then back at Coco just as his eyes close for a half-second. ]
I guess I'll have to keep you awake somehow.
[ He'll have think of a way to, though. Heine curls his toes under Coco's thigh. ]
Want to... talk or something? [ Talking is hard. For Heine, at least. ]
no subject
You say it like it's dirty, haha. I'm just good at reading people. Not as much soothsaying or communicating with dead relatives or husbands so much as giving some guidelines and bending an ear for them to relay their worries and assure them that everything gets better. I don't take money for it.
[ He can respect if someone doesn't believe in it; his synesthesia goes a long way in helping him in his career choice, coloring the electromagnetic waves he can pick up on. ]
I'm sorry to be such a bother. You really don't have to indulge me so much; I don't think I'm concussed. But if you're offering, I'd like to hear more about you. What do you do?
[ Those toes curl under his leg and he stretches a bit, pulling his shins back in to encase Heine where he sat. It almost seemed too intimate and his cheeks flush with a faint pink, but he keeps watching. The movie's almost over, and they've just taken out the man responsible for the kill orders. It's showing him locked in prison with others who recognize and hate him, ensuring a miserable remainder of his life. ]
no subject
[ He would say that it's more like lying, but Heine's not so malicious as to say that to Coco's face, or that bitter. It's just weird. Or rather, nice and harmless, and therefore weird. ] Do you have another job?
[ Though maybe that's the reason for why Coco camps outside... but he's more well-groomed than the usual hobo. And he smells good, which is one reason for why Heine doesn't try to pull away when he gets framed between Coco's legs. He does shift around a little, pulling his arms closer to himself, but he doesn't try to jump away. He takes a moment to adjust the comforter over them again to put off answering.
He's not ashamed of his work, but it's hard to explain to someone, especially someone he doesn't know that well, so he just omits some parts in his explanation. ]
Security at a bar. Sometimes bartending and other stuff, if they need help.
[ As the movie comes to a close and returns to the title screen, Heine leans off the couch to grab the remote, not looking at Coco. ]
no subject
I had one, for a while. Then I went to fortunetelling for a while, and someone I met inspired me to return to ingredient gathering. That's why I'm here, now, and also why I'm rusty. This area isn't so good for living and working in, but a lot of the herbs around here are very unique, as well as the animals that eat them.
[ He's glad when Heine answers his questions, anyway. With more expansion than his past attempts have garnered. ]
Oh? Which bar? I could come visit and repay the favor, haha.
[ He watches the end credits roll, not recognizing any of the actors' names. His pop culture knowledge is even worse than his film knowledge. ]
