You've been caught red-handed! Or empty-handed. Or with your hands full of something completely inappropriate. Either way, you've been caught doing something you shouldn't have, and now you're in big trouble.

HOW TO PLAY:

PROMPTS:

1. INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY : You're in trouble with the law in some way! Perhaps you've been caught breaking and entering, or maybe you've been caught stealing something. Or maybe you just ate or murdered someone. Or... you stole the cookie from the cookie jar? Either way, now you have to deal with the consequences of your illegal actions, whether the person who catches you decides to call the authorities or deals with you personally.

2. TAKING ADVANTAGE : Have you been gazing at someone too obviously while they've been doing something? Did you kiss someone in their sleep, or perhaps get all touchy-feely with yourself while the object of your affections was dozing? Well, you've been caught now. Better make up some excuses fast.

3. EVERYONE DOES IT : Someone's walked in on you touching yourself! Oh my. Did you say anyone's name while in the act? Did you finish? Will you finish? It's okay, everyone does it. Just act natural.

4. I SAW NOTHING : You've just walked in on someone else naked or mid-change! Maybe they're in the wrong change room, or maybe you just barged into their bedroom or office to casually talk to them. Oops.

5. IT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE : Did you break a promise? Cheat on your partner? Cheat at a card or video game? You've now been somehow exposed for your lies and scandals! Good luck. You'll probably need it.

6. WITH BEST INTENTIONS : Well, well. You've been caught doing something nice! Did you plan a surprise party? Buy a lovely gift for someone? Write a love note? Hide what evidence you can fast!

7. THE HUNTED : Someone's after you, whether it be for a debt you owe, retribution for something you did, or they're just plain crazy. Whatever it is, they're now closing in for the kill.

8. FREE GAME : Whatever else you can be caught doing, you've just been caught doing it! Have fun and go wild.

[Her main block here isn't a lack of self-confidence, but her firm belief that Petre only likes boys. It's a black and white view of sexuality, but she's never had reason to stretch hers very far (or explore it much at all), and he mostly tends to bed boys as far as she knows. So he must be gay, right?]

You - wouldn't want Bobby. [Slowly, trying to puzzle it out with her eyes narrowed.] He's hot, but way too boring for you. And if you did, you wouldn't ask me permission anyway.

No, I wouldn't.

[His smile is growing, slowly but surely. A guessing game is just as good as any other game, even if it's with her. They're not quite used to keeping things from each other, though apparently there's a detail Jen hasn't quite caught on when dealing with Petre.]

But no. I don't really give a shit about getting him.

[too nice. Wouldn't exactly be a thrill either way.]

[The emphasis does it, the kind of joke that makes her teeth grind with annoyance every time, but this time it's actually hilarious. Hilarious and cruel and the kind of thing she's usually spared with him. Well. She never had any delusions that she really was special.]

[Well, since she's insisting.]

I get to kiss you. In front of him.

[Jesus Christ, she really isn't special. That's cruel on a level she should've known to expect, but denied she'd ever face herself. He's had enough of the whining, has he, and decided to destroy everything in one fell swoop? He could've told her. She would've shut up.]

And it's happening whether I say yes or no now, isn't it. You're loving this too much to call it off. [Her voice is very quiet. Here, then, is the reality of being "friends" with Petre.]

[Friends has always been subjective. Perhaps the worst part of it all is that he sees it as little more than a joke. She should see it that way too, if she just relaxed. No harm here. Just a kiss to piss off someone else.]

I'm open to ideas.

[It isn't just that Bobby's special to her. Not really. Her pride has to come into everything somewhere, and what really drives her insane is that she turned him down. She was still such an open wound when she came to Xavier's that she couldn't believe the attention, it terrified her, and she drove him back so hard that they barely even reconciled to friends. It's a fuck-up she's determined to fix, and no one can get in the way of that.

If he'd just asked, Petre would discover that that was the reason why she didn't entertain any other offers. Bullheaded stubbornness and pride, to no one's surprise. He's the only one who's even distracted her for more than a second or two.]

It's fine. [She can't wimp out now. You don't wimp out on Petre.] It's no big deal. Not like he's cared who I do or don't kiss for a long fucking time. And it'll be worth it.

[She's almost, almost convincing, right down to the smirk. But a kiss from a boy who'll never want her, rubbed right in the face of the boy she turned down before she knew he was all she wanted - it's such a fucking waste.]

[Believing it or not, Jen's smirk does bring something similar out of Petre, who relaxes his gaze like he's no longer looking to snatch something right out of her expression.]

If everything works out just right, he'll be grabbing your arm and asking you what the hell was that, Jen, [And that was his play at Bobby's voice, deeper than his, ridiculously All-American.] Don't ever say I'm not a good friend.

[She really, really can't believe that's what it's all about. Bolstering her chances with Bobby through contrived jealousy? That's not at all his style of game. But she'll play along, relaxing a bit as well and giving him a curious look.]

I didn't know you could drop the whole accent. [She doesn't ask why he doesn't do it regularly, because all mutants know a little something about maintaining personal identity, and because she thinks the lingering hint of accent is sexy.]

[It's personal satisfaction disguised as help, that's what it is. What he wants is a taste of those lips when she so vehemently refuses anyone else the privilege, and he wants it with her playing right along. It's always about power with this one.]

There's a lot of things I can do that you don't know about, Jenny.

[and maybe his eyes are a bit too suggestive when he says that, turning away to bring the cigarette back to his lips.]

[Oh god, that look always leaves her feeling a bit weak. On anyone else it'd be sleazy - and it is a bit sleazy on Petre too, in all honesty, but the kind that makes her understand why anyone would think that kind of approach works. They just don't realize how underqualified they are to make it work, and Petre's somehow graduated with top marks from that particular class.]

Really? Can you get dressed? The towel's getting old.

[He's not looking at her like that with no fucking clothes on. That's playing extremely dirty.]

Don't tell me just talking about one kiss is getting you all hot and bothered.

[He stands up, cigarette in his mouth, tilting his chin up to dig his thumb behind the line of the towel around his waist. His eyes are on her for a moment before he turns and walks back to his clothes. He actually ponders getting it nude again, but then he's merciful enough to grab them and step into the bathroom instead.]

You're just showing off, you arrogant prick. Save it for someone who cares.

[She always insults him in the same light, airy tone, and this time she's laughing as he struts away, because it's all she can do. Of course she cares, and takes in the whole show, but like hell will he ever get it out of her directly.]
