"People ask, How did you get in there? What they really want to know is if they are likely to end up in there as well. I can't answer the real question. All I can tell them is, It's easy."
Well, you've really done it now. You're in a mental institution. Maybe it's a modern facility with a therapy garden, compassionate staff members, and a warm environment meant to help nurse people back to health, or maybe it's a glorified dungeon where the government shoves people they don't want to deal with and patients are abused by staff. Regardless of what it is, you're there, and it doesn't look like they're planning on letting you out any time soon.
Maybe you're actually not supposed to be there and you're trying to arrange for your release. Maybe you actually are meant to be there and you're struggling with your illness. Maybe you're not a patient at all and you're just there to visit or earn your paycheck. It's up to you.
Rules:
1. Post with your character's name, canon, and your preferences on the subject bar, and set up the situation.
2. Tag other people. Are you a visitor? A staff member? A fellow patient? A hallucination? It's your choice.
3. Have fun!

He misses them, but he hasn't been able to make improvements and he hasn't been able to lie his way out either.
On days where it feels like everything is closing in and he's trapped, and when he can motivate himself to move from the spot he usually steals by a window, he sometimes spends time with Wade. He can be unpredictable and sometimes annoying. He can even be dangerous... but he still manages to make Billy smile sometimes. He makes him feel less weird, less alone. He doesn't even mind all the crap TV he always wants on really.
And at least he doesn't look at him entirely crazy when he says he's a wizard or the actual son of Scarlet Witch.
It's why he pads his way up and settles next to him today. He needs something grounding, some sort of distraction.]

Barry Allen ϟ 63!Flash ϟ OTA
Except that it is the truth.
She'd still be in outpatient at worst if she hadn't been called in to examine a domestic violence crime scene and had what appeared to be a full-fledged PTSD flashback followed by almost a day of catatonia.
Barry kind of suspects some kind of metahuman influence, but what can she say? It wasn't really me, someone with superpowers made me do it? So she's stuck here for at least a few days while they do a psych evaluation. It is taking pretty much all of her focus to not just use her superspeed to sneak out.]

The hospital had tried drugging him, but the most they could do to slow him down was restrict his calorie intake, although he usually could manage at least one run past security to steal stuff from the kitchens in the off hours. Which was how he had gotten the still sealed candy bar he was offering the new gal.

Clay Miller//Friday the 13th Remake
Clay had gotten into many a bar fight since that day in 2009. Drinking, drinking, and more drinking because it was easier being drunk and disorderly than it was being sober and crazy. Well, crazy might not be exactly what he was, but that didn't stop them from hauling his ass in here three weeks ago. Clay had gotten too drunk that night, and wound up trying to convince some officer what had really happened to him with Jason.
You get into that kind of story, and anyone would rather put you away than actually sit down to really listen to what had happened. Plus, there was all of this sadness he had to carry around with him. Now that he was sober? Yeah, all of that came flooding back, but the medications they gave you here were too amazing to push off.
Now, all he did was sit in the corner so he could stare out the window. Muttering to himself about Jason, and how he killed his sister...and the girl that he could have loved at some point.
He might even be high enough to try to convince some poor stranger about what happened. Anything to get this off of his chest, to be heard, to heal.]

Allen Walker | D. Gray Man | OTA
That had been what they had decided when they had locked him up all those years ago. Asylums were hardly very modern, not yet, and it was all too common for a kid to get lost in the system. He still saw them sometimes, the demons, but he kept it to himself, though it still tortured him sometimes. It hurt to see a soul suffering inside the body of a monster, and he had tried time and time again to help or get others too. Every time saw that suffering and didn't tell, he was sure he really was getting closer to insanity. He was betraying them, he knew that.]

But all that crumbled when a more competent staff member, one dedicated, one donig their job well (one he would have liked on his own staff in the day) came on shift. Eyes on the clock and knowing that time was coming, if he didn't want his efforts to go to waste, he'd have to count on somebody's help. Today Allen Walker is somebody. He's not alleviating the suffering of those plagued by demons, but he has the potential to be useful.
Ozaki's hand clasps on his shoulder.]
Hey. Do me a favor.
[Looking left, then right, then behind him as he moves in closer, that hand still on Allen's shoulder, Ozaki's other hand starts reaching into the waistband of his own pants. He's actually going for a hidden pack of cigarettes which will be shoved into Allen's hand if he waits it out without freaking out or scooting away.]

Madara Uchiha - Naruto - OTA
He could put his fist through a concrete wall and laugh off the pain. He could scratch at his eyelids until they bled. He could tear through restraints with the skill of a professional escape artist and the ferocity of a rabid dog. Many patients claim that just his stare alone is deadly. It sounds crazy, but Madara redefined crazy long ago. Everyone else is just trying to keep up.
Chris Walker ➙ OUTLAST
(Because this isn't a bad idea. Nope.)[Chris Walker is an enormous 6'8" hulk of a man, an ex-soldier who sustained significant trauma from his multiple tours. Enough to push him into violence when the anxiety and paranoia became too much, which sent him straight into a mental institution where he could get "help". Help was what they promised, but all locking him up had managed to do was make him much worse. He became increasingly more aggressive and more delusional, making claims about a mysterious enemy called the Walrider that he needed to stop. It could jump bodies, "infect" people, and he had to contain it. After self-mutilating his face out of anxiety and killing an orderly with his bare hands when they tried to stop him, he was promptly restrained and rarely allowed out. On those rare occasions when he was allowed, the deal was that only under heavy sedation and restraints would be acceptable. Much too dangerous to allow him to run around freely, after all.
The sound of chains and chaperoning guards were often the signs of Chris Walker these days. Not that it ever stopped him from trying to break free and complete his self-imposed mission, mind you. He is nothing if not persistent.
(Alternatively, this can be set in actual Outlast canon if you prefer, where he can chase you down and try to rip your head off. :| It's still in an asylum, after all.)]

Severe depression is his official diagnosis. The loss of nearly all of his friends to AIDS-related complications that left him miserable and alone served as the catalyst that landed him a hospital bed. What he really misses almost as much as those he's lost is the camera he isn't allowed to use while hospitalized. Privacy reasons, the doctors cite, of course.
Still, he observes and absorbs everything around him like a sponge, even if he can't record it. He can tell you which nurses and orderlies are the most sympathetic towards which patients. He can tell you who's improved and who's stalled, and even that there's a handful of patients who, for whatever reason, treatment is failing. He can also tell you that the sound of chains and the appearance of Chris Walker's guards definitely causes an increase in anxiety in everyone wherever they go.
It's the talk of this Walrider that has caught his attention, though. He's asked around, but of course the staff aren't talking, and the patients don't hold any interesting information for him either. Most delusions, he's learned, have some basis in reality. It takes time, though, before he's able to work up his nerve to go right to the source. Usually when Chris is about, Mark just keeps his head down and his mouth shut.
Curiousity and cats, he tells himself. But luckily, he's not a cat, and there does come a day when he finally works up the courage to very, very quietly ask while Chris is in earshot.]

Bart Allen/Kid Flash II | DC Comics (AU from pre-reboot) | Patient
He spent a lot of time lost in thoughts and memories, searching for things he must have missed, and they worried that he'd gone catatonic, except he always engaged when required. He just tended to drift when there wasn't anything to ground him. At least he'd had the good sense never to mention the Speed Force or the Titans or any of his costumed friends. From what he could tell, the people here had never heard of metahumans, or aliens, or time travel outside of books and movies and the like.
It made him wonder if he'd somehow let the Reverse-Flash win.
Todd the Wraith // Stargate Atlantis
But then the IOA stepped in. He blamed Sheppard for allowing him to be turned over to them instead of shooting him and ending what had become pure misery.
At first, they let him mingle with others in the ward. But found he grew irritable, depressed, and then violent. He couldn't feed off humans anymore but he certainly had the rest of his abilities, which allowed him to inadvertently pick up the emotions of the others. So, they put him two stories down and took away all feeling. His only company was those who brought him his meals. For awhile.
Unable to take the loneliness and the fact this was awfully similar to his time with the Genii, he tried manipulating them to help him escape, the weakest even managed to open his door and lead him up to the surface. He barely got a glimpse of the sky before they were caught and he was brought back down, this time he was put in almost complete isolation, meals delivered via a dumbwaiter. Next he tried building something out of his plastic utensils, some way to kill himself. But they figured it out before he could construct anything. They stopped giving him anything except food.
Starvation was his greatest fear. He couldn't go back to that. But the only way out other than the door was the dumbwaiter. And he was too big for it. So, he ate less of his meals. Not enough to starve but at least drop his weight. He knew the lift led straight up into the kitchens. Easy to grab a knife and leave out the delivery door. He had to do it, even if it killed him, which he hoped it might, either way, this was his way out.
He was pretty sure another week of this routine and he'd be able to pull it off. What he didn't expect was the door being opened, someone shoved inside and the door quickly closed again. The room was dark, padded, mercifully free of cameras, and held nothing of interest except its six and half foot occupant, who stood up from his corner, confused by this new company. "Who are you? Why'd they put you in here with me?" he asked, surprised to hear his own voice which felt dry and very unused.
[ooc: So, are you another trapped soul whose punishment is to spend time with the creature who used to eat people? Or perhaps you're a prostitute, hired to keep the wraith occupied? Either, or something different, in any case, he has a plan to escape, unless you're here to do just that C: PM with any questions!]
Ushahin Dreamspinner | The Sundering
It's easy enough to see the insanity in his face, the eyes mismatched as they stare out at the doctors and patients around him. He's quiet, but he'll speak often to anyone who will listen of living in another place a long time ago. He also speaks often of the wisdom he learned there from an ancient god and an even older dragon.
Most everyone tolerates his insanity with open pity, but it's best not to annoy him or rouse him to anger. Insane or not, he's got a talent for keeping patients awake at night, weeping long hours after he's whispered sweet and horrible things into their ears.]
Leo | Pandora Hearts
In this life, he got no such explanation. The lights that he sees, that no thick lenses can block out--the voices he hears, that won't be silent no matter how loudly he screams--they didn't earn him a destiny, just a spot in this wretched place. It's no worse than the streets, but it's not really much better.
He keeps to himself, almost always curled up somewhere uncomfortable, his nose so deep in a book it's like he's trying to fall through the pages. Where he gets the books, well, that's anybody's guess. But he never has the same one twice.
If the voices are quiet and he's in a decent mood, he might be persuaded to share. But touch his hair, his glasses, or his book without permission, and you'll be sorry.]
Edward Nygma | Gotham
Arkham is a massive place, large enough for him to get his own cell. He keeps it as clean as he can, wiping down the walls and scrubbing at the corners until his hands rub raw. The few personal items he's allowed--some books on forensics, some handheld games--sustain him, along with the scraps of news he can get from the outside world.
For the moment he's in the cafeteria, munching on overcooked eggs and bacon as he completes the morning crossword and listens to the drone of a radio. He has to sit well away from the patients that aren't allowed sharp objects, sharing his table with a dazed-looking man, and when the loneliness becomes overwhelming he looks up at him.]
'Perfected, as in a skill.' Five letters, starting with H. What do you think?
[The man's eyes flicker to him, but he doesn't say anything. Eddie sighs.]
It's honed. H-O-N-E-D. Like sharpening a knife. Haven't you heard that before?
[One the orderlies eyes Eddie suspiciously, but he doesn't notice them as he scribbles down the answer.]

Coupled with the ear, his refusal to provide an identity other than the fake one in his wallet has landed him here. Supposedly a lawyer is coming to see him today, so he lets the staff gussy him up in handcuffs and leg restraints and sit him down in the visiting area at a small table.

robin | teen titans
From what Robin knew, everything was kept in secret; for all he knew, the others said that he had gone on a trip, instead of landing himself in a mental institution. The leader of a well known superhero group going "crazy" and going for treatment wasn't exactly what people wanted to hear. Superheroes, especially their leaders, were supposed to be untouchable.
They kept him in a room by himself, of course. Any other person he saw he tried to fight, claiming them to be one of Jump City's worst. Robin saw him everywhere, especially in the shadows. Sometimes he heard the doctors talking about how the hallucinogen had done some brain damage, but they couldn't see what he saw. They didn't feel what he felt.
What drove him really crazy was that nobody believed him. ]

Marctavious wasn't an intimidating man to look at initially. To most he looked like a slightly over-weight man that liked smoking, but he was much more than that. Someone of skill and more importantly mental fortitude.
Robin's only warning that something was up at first was the guard patrols being non-existent near his solitary cell. After about a half hour after he might of noticed this Marctavious walked up and came through the door with obviously no fear for his safety.]
Hey there kiddo an old mutual "friend" of ours told me to come talk to you. It's just us so you can talk freely.
[Of course he knew that at some point Robin was going to try to attack him, but he wasn't too concerned. He wanted to see what Robin did.]

However he's got the ability to go into people's minds and has been known to give the main character a rather painful lesson in accepting what's to come.
