The Coffee Shop AU Meme


The weather is getting cold and what's better for batting off that chill than a nice hot beverage in a place with comfy chairs and a barista who knows your favourite combo?

PROMPTS

1) Customer. You spent ages choosing your drink, lining up for it and now there are no more tables. Great. As a result, you have to look for somewhere to sit while balancing that tray laden with your drink of choice and tasty pastry in your hands. Looks like you've got no other choice than to ask that person with the spare seat at their table.

3) Barista. An employee of this fine establishment, if nothing else, knows how to brew coffee. We hope. Maybe you're the best barista in the world. Or maybe you barely know how the machine works and instead make up for it by coming up with hilarious names on people's paper cups. Either way, you work here and go through the daily grind.

4) Student. It's no secret that students congregate in droves towards coffee shops for a combination of free wifi and caffeine. Whether in a group or on your own, the laptops and papers are out in full force. Whether any work is actually getting done is another question.

5) Early Morning Rush. It's first thing and you're crabby. All you want is your coffee and you will kick, punch and claw your way for that cup of black gold. And it looks like you're not the only one feeling this way. Are you going to let that person stealthily cut in front of you?!

6) Not A Coffee Person. Maybe you just want to try coffee for the first time. Or you're a tea drinker who is rethinking their views on coffee. You're canvassing for opinions, and that can range from outright asking other customers to hovering over tables to monopolizing the barista for a good 5 minutes, holding up the line.

7) Coffee Date. Asking people out to a coffee is the easiest thing in the world. Or is it? Whether it's with a friend or something more romantic, a coffee date is a good opportunity to connect with people and talk about whatever comes to mind.

8) Late Nights. The evening sky is dark and there's hardly anybody left in the coffee shop. Closing time is not for a while yet, but a stillness has settled over everyone. It's that time of night where anything can happen.

9) Free For All. Or if all else fails, just make your own scenario!

[ it's getting late, but not closing time for a couple of more hours. she's in it for the long haul tonight all the way close and probably a little beyond. it seems like the guy in the back corner is with her. he's been there quite awhile, long enough for his coffee to be gone or have gone cold an hour ago.

it's time to change the coffee and what's left is exactly one cup. a few hours old, but it's got to be better than cold coffee or none at all. besides it was going to get thrown out, someone might as well enjoy it. ]

You look like you could use another. [ she's quiet in her approach, not wanting to disturb him too much. she speaks to announce her presence then sets the mug down in front of him. ]

[ Being the son of a congressman, Wells had the advantage of having more privacy than that of the first sons and daughters. There were still security at times, but for the most part, he could walk around and go anywhere without getting much recognition. Privacy is important to him.

The sun has long set, but he's still there in the coffee shop, unbothered, taking up an entire table with books for his political science final. Hey, it's supposed to be his decided major; he should ace this exam. People say that he's only a freshman, that he has time to decide, but he already knows what he once. No one, not even his best friend, can change his mind. Not that Clarke would try to change his mind anyway.

The coffee shop crowd is dwindling,but there are still people looking for seats. He doesn't want to be impolite, so he takes some of the unused books and notebooks and slides them into his backpack, nudging the chair away from the table to indicate that anyone can take it. ]

like clockwork, every day about ten minutes after Maki starts her shift Rin shows up with her dumb cat-like smile. she usually orders a hot chocolate (with extra whipped cream!!) and a croissant then sits around and flirts with Maki without even intending to flirt at all because. Rin.]

[When Sara enters Jitters, it's nearly empty. Not many people frequent coffee places late at night, but she had heard that Barry Allen frequents this place. Central City is unfamiliar to her, but Felicity explained that her best chance on this lead was some forensic specialist here. Since she'd much rather avoid hitting the police station herself (she'd spent enough of her youth in police stations between her dad's job and the trouble she got in).

There's still one barista on shift though, and Sara smiles at her.]

( Sometimes, Abe really wondered how he got talked into this job.

To be fair, he was good at it: a true hipster barista had to employ the right balance of science and artistry, and that fit his nature well. But he'd sort of come into this with the impression that he could just hide behind his beloved La Marzocco. He'd been deceived. Not only did customers try and talk to him when he was busy making their stupid drinks (who asks for half-regular, half-soy anyway?!) but sometimes he actually had to serve as well.

Abe's patience was not ideal for this.

Thankfully, today was not one of the days he was stuck sullenly at the till. No, even better: he was supposed to be keeping a helpful eye on the new staff member as she trained up on the damn thing. As if he didn't have enough to worry about, keeping track of ristrettos and other crap, he had to concentrate half his attention on her. In New Girl's defense, she learned fast. But some customers were just born to be difficult. Speaking of which...

Abe eyes the approach of one particular fuzzy-headed idiot balefully. This was going to be downright painful, even moreso than usual. Never mind the idiot's over-complex order (a single-shot caramel macchiato frappe, which technically they didn't even serve here, because technically a macchiato ought to be espresso poured over a dollop of cappuccino foam, and not the heresy St*rb*cks perpetuated) his entire approach was hopeless.

And as Abe watches, rolling an exasperated glance by his trainee, the farce begins.

First comes the not-quite-looking-at-you stage, like Idiot's gaze had been a crab in another life. Next comes the stuttering. Then the dying of speech. Some more stuttering. Apparently having a different server is enough to through him completely for a loop.

The line builds up behind him. More lines gather tightly between Abe's brows as he pumps out coffee orders with a vicious efficiency. Finally he can take it no longer, and in the middle of pouring a perfect triple tulip his patience finally snaps. The twang of it is almost audible. )

Just spit it out, for God's sake! You're in here every day, surely you've had enough practice!

( His hands, though, are steady and almost gentle as he throws the idiot's concoction into a blender, preempting the need for ordering to begin with.

After all, Abe is very good at his job. )
