[Well that had been horrible. Not that McCoy wasn't used to running from the local fauna (or sometimes flora) of whatever colorful world they'd decided to play Lewis and Clark on. And it was his own fault really for humoring Jim every time the Captain decided to put him on the away team because 'live a little Bones!'

They'd split from the rest of their team, of course 'heroes luck' meant they'd ended up as monster bait, one would have been fine but they'd collected a pack of them; gnashing teeth and razor claws- and there was a sudden stomach-sinking moment of déjà vu when they'd hit the cliff edge because oh this again?. This time the water below hadn't been deep and crystal blue, it had been dark and churning with sharp rocks jutting from the inky surface like rotten teeth--

McCoy didn't remember jumping, the jolt of cold water had shocked any thought besides] "God damn!" [ from his brain as he surfaced, gasping for air as he treaded water, trying to gather himself, trying not to think about what awful things could be lurking in these waters. And where was--?]

[Tiger catches the hint of a scent before he even opens his eyes, and it’s the absolute last thing he’d expected to wake up to. A human. There’s a slight panic rising in his chest, as he tries to remember where he is or what he was doing… and finds that he can’t.

A low growl rumbles to his throat as he springs to his feet defensively – eyes snapping towards the stranger. It’s dark out, so it takes a moment for his eyes to adjust, but he spots the human sitting a few feet away.

Almost immediately, Tiger’s vision starts to spin, and he flinches at a splitting pain in his head. The rest of his body feels weak, and even standing proves difficult, but he manages to hold his ground at least.]

[Ah, there we go. This pretty clearly isn't just some regular animal, and hearing it (him?) speak confirms that. Staying nearby may have been a good idea after all, though Ginko hadn't been sure when he made the decision whether he could expect him to wake up at all.

Of course, now he's faced with a new problem, in that some kind of sapient wolf-creature now seems to be assuming that he's the one responsible for its injury.

He stays where he is, putting out his cigarette before replying, making sure to move slowly but keeping a careful eye on Tiger in case his behavior turns aggressive.] I didn't do anything. It looks like you were attacked before I ever got here.

[Tiger relaxes, only slightly, once he’s sure this guy isn’t going to make any move towards him, but his body stays tensed.]

[His nose crinkles up as he finally catches wind of the stench from the cigarette smoke, and he shakes his head in disgust. But even that small movement sends another wave of dizziness through him, and he stumbles on his feet a little – snarling in frustration as he does.]

What am I supposed to believe? That you just happened to stop by?

[He watches her transparent attempt to stand, and it's clear to him she's in no condition to be walking anywhere. Worry eats at him, much like any other emotion he feels tends to do, though it's laced at frustration at himself for not watching her better. He has to give her credit for trying, though.]

[He bends down a little and holds his arms out, intending to carry her to the office and hunt around for a first aid kit. He's not sure whether he wants the Iwatobi guys taking her home. Despite trusting Haru and Makoto to keep their hands to themselves, the thought still kind of pisses him off.]

So he shouted at them to find a way around because only a well timed barrier spell had saved him from serious injury. But he was still doing his best not to limp when the terrain forced them out of earshot.]

Having read Varric's book on Hawke, he knew it could be worse. Reading the rest of Varric's work let him know just how bad it could be. But Varric believed in his own way, and that was comforting.

"Serious looks good on you. But it wouldn't hurt to relax every now and then." Maker knew if anyone deserved it, Cullen did. Maxwell spent so much time being serious everywhere and around everyone else to make the Inquisition look good, but Cullen rarely ever put aside his work. There was certainly enough of it to do so, even if he wasn't fighting the need for Lyrium.

It's true that Dean is probably the weakest bet in Purgatory. Being human in a world of monsters, including ones that he personally sent here, it's not fun. And of course he hates being the reason that they have to stop, and find food, and get themselves noticed because he can't move as fast or as quietly on the best of days.

It only gets worse after that run-in with the shifters.

It was just a well-aimed kick that got him, a small injury, and definitely nothing compared to some of the other stuff he's endured, but right now it's screaming at him. Every step is torture because Dean refuses to stop for the little amount of time it would take to give it a rest and let it heal. Of course he's overcompensating for feeling like the weak one, so weak that he has to team up with a vampire, and he has endured actual torture in the past. So he won't let himself be bothered by this one bum knee, even if every mile he walks on it only makes it worse and makes that limp more difficult to hide.

At first, he just lets Dean stubborn it out. Continue to limp along near the river where the sound of rushing water would mask the noise as well as the scent of human. Warm and alive and while Dean's vulnerabilities might rankle him, they only reminded Benny of who he was, who he wanted to be again.

Benny might even admire his determination, but at the rate he was shambling along, they were going to run into trouble and maybe not the kind they could get back out of.

[ If she's been in hiding all this time, perhaps she doesn't know. Most of the world wouldn't, though the fact that the Calling resonates through the Warden ranks is well known enough amongst their informants. He wonders if she's heard it too, if she fought that compulsion to come here.

What come next will not be an easy thing for her to hear. ]

The Gray Wardens were being manipulated by a darkspawn named Corypheus. He sought to use their sense of duty and sacrifice to summon an army of demons. Many of their number were killed or enslaved with his dark magic.

[ Once more, she arrives to find her brethren under attack by blood magic and demonic possession, and Cullen in the center of it all. ]
