Final hand: all or nothing.

It was far from the first time that Thancred had played cards in a gambling den for information, for the last pieces he’d need to put a conspiracy together. Brewing trouble, clouds on the horizon - nothing new, as he worked on tracking it back to the source, a source that had the money to hire mercenaries - or rather, one particularly infamous one and his entire company. It wasn’t hard, after some legwork, to find the mercenary who called himself Greed, or the seedy den he claimed as his own - simple, really, in the end, sweet-talked the right pretty girl (and more, he still smelled faintly of her floral perfume), found his way there, cheated at more hands of cards in a row than he’d ever had before to get past Greed’s underlings to get a meeting with the man himself.

(he’d heard of the man’s tastes - anything pretty and he knows very well that he’s more than simply pretty. That pretty girl he’d complimented and flirted with and bedded had been very forthcoming with the details. very much not a believer in not kissing and telling).

Thancred had known going in that he didn’t have much in the way of money to tempt the man’s, well, greed - being a Scion of the Seventh Dawn didn’t pay, and while they could support themselves, there wasn’t exactly much leftover for things such as bribing informants. He hadn’t that much to offer, but he’d proposed a bit of a challenge - another card game, but instead of money, he’d offered himself as the stakes. Win, he’d walk away with the information. Lose, he’d still get his information, but he’d also spend the rest of that night, the next day, and then that night, on his back or knees, first, for a very temporary master. But he hadn’t intended on losing, tried to stack the deck in his favor: it’d worked, for a little while.

But now here they were, down to the end, and the bard’s staring at the single worst hand he’s ever had. His expression doesn’t change - he’s very good at hiding unease beneath a cheerful facade, casual irreverence, and easy smile - as he examines the cards in his hand, discards and draws. Light fingers and a honed skill at sleight of hand (and his willingness to cheat) had gotten him this far.

Wasn’t going to help him now, and there wasn’t any point in delaying. He'd have his information, but he certainly isn't ever going to say how he got it - using himself as stakes to sweeten the pot in a card game and then losing? He'd never hear the end of it, especially from Y'shtola.

(he notices the look he’s getting. Of course he does. The look of a predatory, hungry shark, but he isn’t afraid. Maybe he should be.)

With a dramatic flourish, because he’s a bard and dramatics come naturally to him, he throws down his absolutely terrible hand. “Well! It seems as though you’ll be having the pleasure of my company for somewhat longer,” he can’t help but snark, even now. "My luck seems to have finally deserted me, born under an auspicious star or not."

It was supposed to just be a routine exam. After the events in New York, Clint and Natasha were submitted to a series of medical exams, each more extreme than the last. The idea is a little bit advanced, but basically- Yukiko's in the TV world and encounters her shadow-self (who's there because eh, reasons). The shadow succeeds in putting her to sleep, and then invites Dave (who in this instance can be some kind of sentient shadow instead of a guy who can clone himself as in canon) and turns it into a fairy-tale in which he has to wake up the Princess... but by fucking her.
