(I Met You) Once Upon a Dream

Dreams are complicated and amazing, aren't they? They can be fascinating, fantastical, boring, scary, comforting. You can meet people that are gone from your life, there, or even - sometimes - dream of people who you don't know, yet.

So this is just it. Meeting in a dream.

Warning: some of the prompts can be better avoided by the younger crowd, for sexual, violent, or body horror reasons.

How to Play
- Comment with your character and preferences.
- Reply to others.
- Have fun.
- Make sure you leave people a way out. It may be a dream, but don't tag into a stranger's open prompt with something that might be explicitly disturbing or way too intimate without checking in with them, first.

Prompts

There are two major categories.
I. In a dream.
II. After you wake up.

They have different prompts, but you're free to mix and match as desired - and the prompts are merely suggestions, after all. Go wild!

I. In a dream.

A. Kind of dream.
1. Mundane
2. Fluffy
3. Hot
4. Sad
5. Nightmare
6. Fantastical
7. Free for your imagination.

B. Kind of meeting.
1. You know them in life. You meet them normally - friends, allies, acquaintances, coworkers...
2. They were once part of your life, but they're not, any longer. Left for good, you fought, they're no longer living...
3. Strangers.
4. Enemy! Defend yourself! Or maybe reach a truce.
5. Free for your imagination.

C. Kind of dream experience.
1. You are as you are in the waking dream - same gender, abilities, etc.
2. You're enhanced - you can do things you don't, when awake, like flight or supernatural strength or knowing a different language, or something else that you normally lack.
3. You're depowered - whether you have special abilities and they don't work in the dream, or you're lacking something else that you usually have - sight, mobility, speech...
4. You're physically changed - different gender, different race...
5. You're a different age - younger or older.
6. Free for your imagination.

II. After you wake up.
A. Kind of dream.
1. It was a lovely dream. You have a great feeling that stays with you after it.
2. It was a horrible dream. Nightmare, or it just went on and on...
3. It was a confusing dream. You're not sure how to feel about it.
4. You don't really remember much about it. But you think there was something...
5. Free for your imagination.

B. Kind of an encounter.
1. Expected - bedfellow, roommate, friend, colleague, and you get to tell them about the dream.
2. New - you met that person in the dream! Or they're just a stranger you feel like you should share the dream with.
3. Impossible - how is that person even there?
4. Enemy - why them? Why now?
5. Free for your imagination.

C. Anything else you want!

[It's a cold, frosty night in Pineyville; the night air is clear and cloudless and lit by a haloed moon.

Tonight, though, Pinkie Pie is sound asleep in her very warm bed, Gummy hugged tight to her chest, after a particularly fun day spent hanging out with the girls and with Cheese. She was pretty tired by the time she went to bed, so she's only now beginning to dream.

But something feels a little... different, right from the start, and she can't really put her finger on why.]

[Warning: As a sex addict, his dreams often reflect this. Furthermore, he has unresolved abandonment issues as well as a crippling fear of lightning and thunder. Even fluffy dreams are bound to have at least some of these aspects present in some form or other. I am more than happy to set the stage in his dream-scape - just let me know!]

[Not all that far away, someone else is sleeping, too. He's been working hard lately, off on a trip on one of his bigger party planning escapades, and honestly it's worn him out. Cheese just managed to get to sleep good, actually, and it isn't long before his own subconscious launches into a dream...

He can tell right away that this isn't going to be your average dream, but it doesn't seem like a bad one initially, either. Hm. Strange...]

[Yeah, it's definitely nice to have Cheese back home. Especially this last trip; for some reason it seemed like he REALLY needed to unwind today. And hopefully he's following that unwinding up with a good night's sleep.]

[It seems that way.

...at first.

They all seem that way at first.

His arms clutch Boneless while he sleeps, his brows furrowing. In his sleep he turns over, gritting his teeth as the dream starts to take an abrupt turn southward, and suddenly this isn't a dream anymore, is it, it's a full fledged nightmare and he can't...wake up...]

[For a while Pinkie's wandering through... well, it's all kind of dark and blank, but for some reason the space feels kind of like a tunnel or a hallway. But for now she's more curious than anything else.]

HellOOOOO! Anybody in here?!?!

[Only silence in return.]

Huh. Well, I guess I must be going somewhere if I'm walking, so if I keep going forward I'll get to where I need to be!

[That cheery nature leads her further into the void.

After what feels like only a little while, despite the space around her looking no more or less vacuous, it feels like the air around her has opened up, as if she's left the "tunnel" and arrived... somewhere. And in the distance she sees someone or something...

And as she moves closer to the scene to get a better view, an uneasy feeling begins to fill her being.]

[Cheese was having a recurring nightmare, one that always came back even since he was a child.

His body, tangled in thistles and thorns to the point where he couldn't move an inch, helpless as it grew around him. Being trapped in one place, unable to move, no freedom, nothing....

He lets out a low moan, thrashing helplessly against the vines that hold him fast to the ground, but it only seems to make them grow faster.]

[Sure enough, that thing in the distance was a massive briar bush, the likes of which would've put the briars in Sleeping Beauty to shame. But it's not until Pinkie's only a few yards away that she sees a mop of brown curls peaking out of the gnarled mass.

The recognition hits her as if someone swung a cold, heavy hammer into her stomach, knocking the air out of her in a terrified gasp.]

CHEESY!

[She sprints to his rescue... only to be knocked onto her back by an invisible wall.]

[His head jerks up, as if he can hear someone calling out to him...but instead he just starts writhing again, but the more he struggles the tighter his bonds become.

Cheese's mouth opens in a silent cry for help, but nothing comes out beyond another hoarse groan.]

[Pinkie just stands up, glaring ahead.]

Oh HECK no! There is NO WAY in ANYWHERE Pinkamena Diane Pie is gonna let some stupid force field thingy from saving the love of her life from those big nasty vines!

[Without further ado, she throws herself at the invisible divide with a wild cry.]

[It's going to take more than force of will to break that force field, because it doesn't seem interested in budging.]

[Nope, indeed it doesn't, and her shoulder's lucky she realizes this after two tries. That won't stop her from banging her fists on it.]

Come on, let me in, he needs me!

[So close, and yet so far...Cheese looks up again, this time his gaze turning toward where Pinkie is standing. The briers still have him tightly pinned, but his breathing quickens when he recognizes the person standing there several feet away.]

Pinkie...

[If it weren't for her pounding and screaming, she'd be able to hear him. Even so...]

Cheesy! Can you hear me?! It's me, Pinkie Pie, I'm here! I just- ACK!- need to get though this! STUPID! Wall thingy!!! Just hold on, okay?!

Pi...

[He wheezes, craning his neck when the vines tighten their grip even more, as if in response to his speaking. The wall appears to be immovable, but the more Cheese acknowledges her presence, the more it seems to wane. When he looks away to struggle, it strengthens.]

[She definitely feels the wall give a little when he does, but it's back to normal when the vines strengthen their hold.]

LET HIM GO!

Cheesy, PLEASE! I-- I wanna help! I KNOW I can, but-- but I need to get to you first! Please!

[He turns again when he hears her voice, but he can only move so far until he's held firmly in place. But with his gaze on Pinkie's again, the wall starts to give way slightly.]

[She lets out a gasp, the corners of her mouth lifting.]

Yes! That's it, Cheesy, I'm almost there! [She takes a few steps back.] Alright, Wall, let's see how you like THIS!

[And Pinkie Pie bolts at the wall again, set on breaking it down like a Red Rover line.]

[Cheese fights against the vines, making it a point to keep his eyes on Pinkie as she runs...and like plastic wrap that has been pulled taught, the wall seems to give somehow before giving way entirely.]
