The (Platonic) Love of my Life Meme

They're your partner, your soulmate, your other half... but you don't think of them *that* way. This is a meme for playing out intimate platonic relationships.

Post with your character, canon, preferences, etc. Tag around. Despite the wording of the meme, Golden Trios (or more) are fine too. Here's some prompts to get you started:



1. Love at First Sight: Your eyes met, and you knew with the tugging at your heart that this person would be your best friend for the rest of your life.

2. Better as Friends: You have mistaken your platonic bond for a romantic one, and are trying to make it work as lovers (and failing). The love and trust is there, but there's no attraction, no spark. When are you going to realize the truth?

3. Wedding Bells: The two of you want all the legal benefits of marriage -- or maybe you're being pressured to marry someone, so you pick your best friend. Just don't let anyone know you don't plan on consummating.

4. Confession: You've been friends for a while, and it's time to let them know the truth -- that your feelings for them go beyond friendship and into platonic partnership. Here's hoping they understand.

5. Under One Roof: You live together. Sharing a bed, arguing over furniture, going for groceries... can your relationship withstand being around each other nearly 24/7?

6. New Life: The two of you are going to raise a child together. Maybe you're adopting, or using artificial insemination. Maybe one of you conceived a child with someone else and the other one will serve as another parent figure for the child.

7. Not my Lover: The two of you are constantly mistaken for lovers -- how could you be so affectionate and intimate with each other without something romantic or sexual going on, after all? You might even get in trouble for this perceived relationship.

8. Three's a Crowd: One or more of you also has a romantic partner in addition to your platonic partner, and they're getting jealous of all the time you spend with your platonic partner. They may even accuse you of cheating, and you may have to choose between the two relationships.

9. Friends Never Say Goodbye: It's been a good run, but it's time for you to part ways. Perhaps you're simply breaking up, or someone has to go far away. Whatever the cause, your memories of this person and what you had together will never fade.

10. I Love You (Intensely and Platonically): Wildcard. Combine prompts, or make up your own scenarios. They might even show up on any future iterations of this meme.

[one would think that, with one being the Crown Prince of the Kingdom who was engaged to a beautiful princess and the other being a legendary Hero of yore sent to safeguard said Prince, there would never be any question as to the nature of their relationship. They were friends and comrades, a prince and his knight, and they were both perfectly content with it. How could they not be? Lady Caeda was beautiful and a wonderful match for Marth and Link, well... Link had his own princess in his heart, even if their match was never meant to be.

And yet... These... rumours still found their way around.

Normally, Link wouldn't let it bother him; he was used to people talking behind his back about him. But about Marth! And so close to the wedding!! It's hard not to be equal parts embarrassed and offended. Which is partly why he's sitting on Marth's bed as the Prince prepares for his day, anxious about how to go about saying this]

Perhaps I should just leave...? Your subjects and advisers would be happier for it, I think.

'Just leave'? Don't be silly, Link. They're making wild claims, yes, but it's nothing for anyone to go disappearing over. There have been worse rumours spread about before, after all.

[It wasn't hard to see where they were coming from. Link was one of the few people Marth could speak so plainly to, and even his sister hardly saw him in this state anymore-- alone in private, not yet presentable. For most, being this close to the Prince would be unthinkable...

Still, Marth can't help feeling a little selfish and the thought of losing his dearest friend's company over gossip of all things sours his expression, just a little. He scowls lightly at himself in the mirror, halfheartedly dragging a comb through his bangs to sort out the damage his tossing and turning had done overnight...]

Besides, I'm sure once Caeda and I are officially joined, the rest of this nonsense will blow over...

[there's a thoughtful little hum as Link watches Marth combs his hair. The scowl he spots causes Link to smile briefly before standing and making his way over to help his friend; as cute as it might have been to see Marth with that one tuft of hair sticking up on the back of his head, it would probably be a sentiment not shared by the nobles and advisers the other has to always deal with. Really, it's no wonder this side of Marth was one he kept between family and very close friends]

Thank the Goddesses Lady Caeda's so understanding...

[he gently pulls the comb out of the prince's hands and starts straightening out the other's hair, a task that's admittedly a little harder now that Marth had reached his full height... Link was about eye level with Marth's chin at this point in time. But the look on his face seems to indicate that he's not entirely sure that the unsavoury rumours will go away on their own]

And they're worried. Your advisers in particular. [a pause] You'd be amazed at some of the stories circling the marketplace these days.

[ It hurts sometimes. The feeling is a dull ache and while Rin has pretended otherwise for years, there are times she tries to get bold. They're adults, hopeless ones at that, and with him showing no interest in potential partners for the past few months, there remains a chance that it may be her.

The only way to find out and set her mind at ease (and possibly alleviate the agonizing loneliness in her heart) is to try to get an answer. Problem is, neither of them are great at talking about their feelings, much less acting on them. The night is late, trickling into morning, and she's gone as far as putting on one of his larger shirts to lounge around in. Lazy attire for an equally lazy woman. The familiar sounds coming from the living room give away his position in the house all too easily and soon she's sinking down into the coch beside him. ]

Waver, I'm bored. [ Completed with a pout. ]

[Waver, for his own part, is curled up on the sofa. There's a glass of half drunk scotch on the side table, and in his hands is one of his several handheld systems, which he's happily having a one sided conversation with.

A cut scene hits as Rin enters the room, and he turns around on the sofa that he can face her. There's a great red blanket draped over his shoulders for warmth, and he looks more than slightly ridiculous in the pose.]

What would you like me to do about that?

[ It doesn't take her long to curl up against his side, bringing her torso under and up to force an arm around her. With a sigh, and acknowledges the short video (likely one he's watched a hundred times prior) and knows she only has his immediate attention for a short while. ]

I don't know. You're the one who is always bored. What do you do when it's one in the morning and you can't fall asleep?

[Waver's spent most of the day not in London, but running errands down in Brighton. The joys and pains of being Lord El-Melloi II include seeing to it that any leaks of magecraft to the general public are taken care of, and Brighton saw a particular feat that it certainly needed to not see.

So, when he gets back to the house, he does what he always does - park in the garage, grab the mail, and walk into the main hallway while flipping through the various bits of junk mail, bills and belated correspondence, separating his mail out from Rin's.

He does, however, blink at one particular bill, addressed to a Mr Tohsaka-Velvet.

Once inside, he keeps the envelop in hand, and heads for the kitchen.]

Rin? You home?

[ The noise of things falling over indicate that yes, yes she is home and was just disturbed in whatever it was she was doing. Worry not. Within seconds the mess is magically picked up (swept into a closet nearby) and Rin herself looking like a deer in headlights. ]

[To a certain extent, Hiro's place had always been a second home to Shuichi. When Shuichi was having a rough time, he'd always come and stay with him until things cooled down again. As far as Hiro was concerned, Shuichi was always welcome. But then, it had always been a temporary thing - usually either the two lovers were fighting or Shuichi was just throwing one of his emotional fits. And Hiro was just the kind of person who thought it was best to let things work themselves out. He said what he thought Shuichi needed to hear and nothing more. It wasn't like he was there to lecture him after all. He was here to support him. So that's just what he always did. Sometimes that meant he didn't exactly know what the nature of the issue was - Shuichi didn't always like telling him.

But he knew after a week that something was up. At some point he realized that this had become more than the usual situation. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't a little concerned, but that hardly meant that he was going to push him out the door. Things worked fine like this. But he was a little worried that there was something Shuichi wasn't telling him.

He saved this kind of thinking for when he was out - in this case, it was picking up a few things from the grocery store. Then by the time he returned he was all smiles, acting like he didn't have a care in the world as he pushed his way inside, bags of groceries in hand, nudging the door shut with his foot.]

[Shuichi's head tipped upside-down over the back of the couch he'd claimed as his snoozing sanctuary, grinning in greeting despite the resulting uncomfortable rush of blood.]

You're just in time, dinner's ready!

[A grand gesture to the freshly delivered pizza boxes sitting on the floor. Quite the presentation. Really, he'd make an excellent housewife. Even if some dumb pissy writers didn't see it that way. What do they know.]
