It's a no-brainer that physical closeness brings a certain sense of intimacy along with it. Even more than with holding hands or even embracing, though, actually carrying someone is a level above simple closeness. You're providing support - quite literally!
There's many reasons why you might have to hold a person in your arms or on your back like that: they're injured, you're faster and you both have to get away, you're trying to pull a particular spunky individual away from danger, you're teasing them, or you're just having fun. Whatever the reason may be now, you're carrying your significant other, your crush, or somebody you have some kind of feelings for or attraction to.

- Delicate: In order to make them feel delicate or hammer in their fragility, you'll scoop them up.
- Swoon: You can't help but notice how strong or handsome/beautiful they are when you're this close to them.
- Injured: Put that sprained ankle on the mend, whether you want to or not.
- Transportation: Let them be your beast of burden.
- Tired: They're too tuckered out to walk. Good thing they look so cute and peaceful.
- Escape: We have to get out of this place because the ceiling is falling! Or something.
- Fun: You're having a good laugh from riding around on them, or you're playing a game like chicken.
- Practicality: Work together to get something high up!
- Teasing: Ahahahaha, it's funny to see how they freak out when you pick them up. This is totally a legitimate pastime!
- For Your Own Good: Come on, you. You're coming with them before you start even more of a brouhaha.
- Unexpected: The smaller part of the couple has decided to pluck their larger partner off the ground.
- Sexy: Take it to the bedroom...and take them there, too, with a sultry
- Particularly Romantic: Maybe it's after a date, after a wedding, or after a near death experience in battle, but this moment of carrying is particularly heartwarming. This is what they mean by "sweeping them off their feet!"
