The Superhero's Significant Other Meme


You're just an average Joe (or Joanna, as the case may be). You live a normal, unassuming life and go on with your day-to-day business. There is, however, one thing about you that is a little unusual - beside your sparkling personality.

You're dating a superhero.

So, what's in this week's issue? Are you childhood friends come together? Do you actually know your love is that caped crusader? If you do, is it a thorn in your side that you will always come second to the cause? Of course, there's always going to be that annoying time where they try to "protect" you by breaking up with you. Oh joy. Well, at least, how's your sex life? Surely those super powers can make for some interesting bedroom trysts. Maybe after one of them, you can tell your beau that you're a superhero, too.

...but what if your significant other isn't the hero? What if they're the villain?

Molly's type used to be dark-haired with sociopathic tendencies, so she's certainly made progress by branching out with Steve. But their blossoming relationship is still fraught with obstacle. They're both dedicated to their jobs, and Molly is afraid that the fame associated with his will leak into her own life. So far they've managed to keep to themselves, but even in the middle of her work days she wonders how long it'll last.

But for the moment, she invites him into her flat for tea, she's hiding those thoughts behind a smile. "So - do anything interesting today?"

They were originally neighbors, only saw each other when one of them was leaving and the other was too. They caught each other out in the hallway with Sarah seemingly pissed off about one thing or another. It wasn't that she was upset, rather she always had her guard off, preferring not to have any interaction with anyone. Yet, there Steve was, offering her a kind smile and a soft 'hello'. She knew who he was, but didn't say anything to him. He seemed like such a goody two-shoes to her. Like a boy scout who stuck to his word, never did a single thing wrong. Then again, he was Captain America, so could he afford to go bad?

Somewhere along the way their drive by hallway meetings turned into brief conversations which then turned into informal coffee shop dates. All of that eventually led up to Sarah combing through Steve's kitchen to see what was there. She wasn't doing his grocery shopping or anything...but considering what his job was, the man needed something other than milk to live off of. Some would say it was Sarah's way of showing that she cared. To her, she was making sure she wouldn't find him dying of starvation.

"Didn't you just go to he market? Bloody hell, Steve, how much do you eat?" the Brit inquired, trying to figure out how much he packed away each day.

She's not sure how they ended up like this, but it's comfortably domestic. Or uncomfortably, as Natasha sees it, but she likes Steve enough that she puts up with it. Besides, it isn't as if she's kissing him goodbye at the door every evening - sometimes it's the other way around, but most of the time, they work together, as they always have. There's just a bit more to the glances and smiles they share, now, and when they get back to base? Well, all bets on professionalism are off.

They're operating independently as well, with Fury gone and no SHIELD to oversee them. Maybe that's why they'd grown so close, until finally, it was something Natasha hesitated to call a relationship. In her experience, relationships didn't end too well. But for Steve, she's put her anxieties aside. For now.

She's been staying with him in his apartment for a while now. Not living there, but spending enough time that it's necessitated she keep spare clothes in his closet and a toothbrush in his bathroom. It'd been his suggestion, of course, one of practicality more than anything else - or so he'd said. This night, she'd spent most of it meeting with one of her informants, sans Steve - he had no stomach for unsavory people, and her informants were always of the unsavory variety - and she's surprised to find the lights still on when she returns to the apartment. She can smell cooking, too, as she lets herself in the front door, dumps her gun-belt on a side-table and calls out for Steve.

"Honey, I'm home."

[Dating a masked vigilante is probably always strange, but it's hard to tell if it's more or less strange when you've known that vigilante since the days of your youth. Either way, the time they've known each other helps quite a bit; Maya knows that louder, more-crowded events are better spent with someone else, and the low-key ones are best to spend with Mukuro.

Today's date was spent near the bridge, eating ice cream and watching some other event's fireworks, admiring the tinkling lights the holiday season set up all around Los Angeles. Though the walk back to Mukuro's apartment is less well-lit, it's hard to feel threatened when your girlfriend is also the ass-kicking Silverwing.

Smalltalk is usually spared on these trips, but as Maya laces her fingers with Mukuro's, she looks up and asks--]

[A nod comes easily, a smile even moreso. Mukuro's never felt as at-ease as she does when she's around Maya. She accepts her hand and gives it a soft squeeze of acknowledgement, glancing down at her as she spoke.]

Yeah. I thought so, at least.

[And it had been fun. Even though the fireworks had made her tense up, she had warning, she knew they'd be happening, and Maya was right there holding her hand and smiling at her, so it hadn't been hard to keep calm and breathe and just enjoy them for what they were. Light and sound and nothing more. It was okay. She really had been okay. She was still a tiny bit on edge, but it was so, so easy to ignore it when Maya's hand was in hers. She wasn't even paying very much attention to the surroundings, too busy stealing glances towards Maya instead-- her apartment was not in an unsafe area, but the walk passed by a few less than ideal zones, and even so she wasn't concerned.

She never was, for herself. And it was easy to get preoccupied with Maya. She commanded Mukuro's attention without even really trying for it.]
