The Best Friends to More Meme

Everyone needs a friend, no matter if you want to admit it or not. It's nice to have a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold, a mind to compliment yours...or an ear to whisper terrible and rude things into, if the case may be. Whether you're bosom buddies since way back or people who were forced together and are only lately tolerating each other, you're - relatively - thick as thieves with this person. No one is closer to you than them (which could be pretty sad, all things considered). The problem? Somehow, platonic feelings have morphed into ones that are decidedly more complicated. But hey, isn't it natural you'd want to be even closer to them? Somehow, someway, these feelings have come bubbling up, through calculated confession or through accident. That cat can't be put back in the bag, so you'll have to face the consequences. Are the sentiments shared by both parties? Will you want to keep your relationship status as "friends," or will you want to become more serious? What happens if it gets awkward between you two - can't you just go back to how you were?

[ooc: Not specifically? I am pretty darn happy to do just about anything, though.]

[I could be game for anything. :) Did you want them already as friends? Maybe they knew each other in college and kept in touch. Or she could live in Central City.]

[ooc: Excellent! Already friends would be good, so college could tie into that. How about she's moved back to Central City for a new job? And then hangout shenanigans ensue?]

[Sounds good! Shall I start? Maybe they can run into each other at Jitters the coffee shop?]

[ooc: Feel free, and yes, that sounds really good. I'll jump right in.]

[Stepping into Jitters was Barry's first task of the day. It was going to be a long day, he could already feel it. He wasn't scheduled to work that day at the city's crime lab, but he was always on call in case of an emergency. He was hoping to spend the day at Star Labs, but knowing the crime rate in this city, that could be just wishful thinking. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, frowning as he glanced at the texts from Caitlin and Dr. Wells. It wasn't like he was stalling! He was coming to work. He was just making a slow (ha, when did he ever do anything slow anymore?) morning of it. He wasn't paying attention as he walked into the line and texted at the same time. Knowing how clumsy he once could be, you would think he wouldn't text and walk at the same time.]

[Well, caffeine is an absolute must, and that would be why Maddie is there, as well, when all she really wants to do is get another hour of sleep. It's that she's not a morning person at heart, it's that she couldn't get any sleep with how her nerves have gotten the best of her - and isn't that understandable? Don't most people who are starting a new job feel exactly the same? And so ... coffee. Coffee, and a short walk in the crisp Fall air, and she'll begin day one of life back in Central City.

And maybe she shouldn't be lost in her own thoughts, but being bumped into from behind was not the best way to pull her out of her worries.

She stumbles forward, and nearly drops her bag, which would be a tragedy, what, with the camera tucked securely inside, and she turns, huffing out an annoyed breath.]

Hey! Could you just - I don't know, watch where you're going? Please?

[Barry's eyes widened, because disturbing anyone was the last thing he had wanted to do. He quickly straightened up, stepping tentatively forward, eyes on the woman he had nearly mauled over. Barry was glad they were just in line to buy the coffee, because spilling something over someone? The last thing he wanted to do.]

Are you okay? I'm sorry if I hurt you. I can-- [Barry made a rueful smile on his face.]--Move faster than I mean to sometimes.

[He stretched an arm out to steady her, and he glanced over at her, checking for possible injuries, and Barry's eyes grew larger in recognition.]

Maddie?

[She was the last person he had been expecting to see inside Jitters that morning, but now he was really glad he had.]

[Maddie is clumsy enough on her own - she doesn't need any help in that regard. Hot drink plus heels plus distraction equals disaster. So, yeah, she's happy that she's not covered in scalding liquid, and all things considered ... that, plus the fact that she's not sprawled on the ground is a miracle.]

No - no, I'm fine, I think. I mean, no harm done -

[She's grateful for the assistance, and she's in the process of settling her bag more securely upon her shoulder, and he says her ... name? She's obviously confused when she finally looks up, but her expression quickly turns from confusion to surprised delight.]

Barry Allen?

[Barry can't lose the grin on his face. He's practically beaming at her. Sure, they stayed in contact. He probably had unanswered e-mails in his inbox from her right this second. But that wasn't completely his fault. The lightning had disrupted everything in his life and he was just starting to get it back in sorts. All his extracurricular activities were keeping him busy and distracted and wow, thinking about it, he was a terrible friend, wasn't he?]

What are you doing in town? I didn't know you were going to be in Central. Are you staying for long?

[The questions were rapidly fired off, and if the Barista hadn't coughed for their attention, they probably would have kept coming. Barry turned to towards the woman, placing his boring black coffee order, and looked at Maddie.]

What would you like? I'm buying.

[And Maddie is certain that the size of her own smile can't possibly get any wider ... if it was possible for a smile to get any wider, that is. It's not as though there was absolutely no way possible that they'd ever bump into each other, but she wasn't expecting it today, of all days.

And he's not a terrible friend, by the way. Life happens, people get busy ... others get struck by lightning and put into comas, it's totally understandable to feel overwhelmed by everything, and she's not holding the lack of communication against him. Mostly, anyway.]

Uh, yes, well, for the time being, this is my home. I got a job in a studio - I'm going to try it out, see if I like it. So, yeah, here I am.

[If not for the not-so-subtle hint to move it along, she probably would have been content enough to continue answering questions. But she blushes, and does her best to offer an apology, shaking her head at the offer.]

Oh, you don't have to, but if you want - caramel apple latte. I'm addicted to those things. But only if you let me pick up lunch or dinner sometime. Y'know, sometime when we have more time to talk, because I'm going to want to do that. I might demand it of you, in fact, and you know how dangerous my pouty face can be. Don't make me use it on you, 'cause I will. No mercy.
