All he could hear was wide paws pounding against the soft grass, his own breaths, and the rushing wind against his ears in the dark. He was always timely in getting back, but tonight he wasn't so lucky...

...He'd messed up. Hunting, he'd learned as a pup, was a matter of skill and just a little luck. When a hunt was successful, you gorged, because you wouldn't know when you would be eating so well again. Otherwise you scavenged on the kills of others, eating scraps here and there until you catch the scent of another herd and try again for the feast. But the caribou was a little too clever for him, zigging and zagging, and he'd taken a spill over a root he swore was there right before he tripped over it.

So now it was a matter of reporting back. They weren't starving, but a dead caribou would have been awfully nice. Damn it, he was so stupid...!

Chibi's day was like any other Chibi day: that is, running around wildly, chasing bugs and blithely ignoring the grass and flowers blooming behind every step he made around the lightly wooded forest. Without friends around, things sometimes got boring and a little depressing, but Chibiterasu found he could push these feelings aside as long as he focused on either food, sleeping, or butterflies to chase across fields.

[Okay, maybe being a vampire wasn't terribly heroic, but it did help in a few cases...! Like fighting crime. Fighting crime was great, even if she could only do it at night!

...and even if it made her really super suspicious when she arrived a little too late to a crime scene and discovered a body... really, it was super unfair to decide that she was the chief suspect here!

But because she was totally forthcoming and had nothing to worry about, she waited in the area for the investigators to show up. The sun was close to coming up, so she was busy putting on her overcoat and sunglasses and getting her umbrella out of her big sack of Heroic Tools as one of the cops kept an eye on her.]
