Sensory deprivation meme

the SENSORY DEPRIVATION meme:
You know those things you rely on to navigate you properly through life?
Senses? Yeah, well, kiss those goodbye.

(TRIGGER WARNING: This meme deals with the loss of senses:
blindness, inability to feel. If the concept of blindness, deafness
and/or the loss of any of your senses bothers you, please do NOT play this meme)

✖ Post with your character name/fandom/options for scenarios
(ie; het/slash fluff/smut) and your prompt.
✖ Use RNG to pick your numbers.
1-5 for regular senses, 6-10 for moral sense, 11-16 for cracky senses.

The Basic Five

1. Sense of Sight - Whether you woke up that way, had an accident, a brain tumor expanded or you had a bad reaction to something, you're now blind. Fully and completely. Watch out for that bu--*wince*

2. Sense of Smell - Did someone step in dog crap? It could be you, but you'd never know. You've lost your sense of smell. I guess there's no stopping by the roses for you, huh?

3. Sense of Hearing - "I'M NOT YELLING!!" Yes, yes you are. And no matter how loud you crank AC/DC, you're never hearing Highway to Hell again. Guess I shouldn't have gotten you the Stones compalition CD's, huh?

4. Sense of Taste - No, it doesn't taste like chicken. In fact, it doesn't taste like anything. Perfect time to get that friend that burns everything to cook for you - at least it'll make them happy and you can smile through the whole ordeal.

5. Sense of Touch - Where'd you get that bruise? Or that gaping knife wound? No clue. You have utterly lost the ability to feel anything, like your body is enveloped in fuzzy packing tape. Punch the wall all you want, you ain't gonna feel anything.

The Guiding Factors

6. Sense of Right and Wrong - Tripping people that get in your way? Taking candy from babies? Killing someone that hurt you and yours? All sound like pretty good ideas right about now. Your entire moral code has been thrown into the 'grey' area. There is no right or wrong, only what you want.

7. Sense of Decency - Things that just 'aren't done' are in play for you now. Evicting old ladies and orphans because they can't pay? Pff. Good. Lousy Mooching leeches. Hitting on that underage and naive little thing? Puh-leeze, they're an easy mark. Deflower, deport and debauch yourself to your heart's content.

8. Sense of Self - You don't even know who you are anymore. What are you doing with your life? What's it all mean? What the hell's it for? Why even bother to get up in the morning? Are you going to go try and 'find' yourself? Or just give up?

9. Sense of Preservation - Your life? Means about as much as a mouse fart. Why should you step out of the way of that speeding train? You were there first. Mouthing off to that huge, angry, overpumped steroid-faced goon sounds like a good idea too. He took your seat. And he smells.

10. Sense of Empathy - That ability that lets you put yourself in the shoes of others, to relate to them? Gone. No, you don't know what they're feeling, and quite frankly, you don't want to. You have your own things to deal with, and they're much more important. Why? Because they're yours.

The Quirky Ones

11. Sense of Humor - Wait, am I supposed to laugh now? You have to take your cue from those around you, laughing when they do, usually a little bit late and a little too long. Not even a fart joke will crack a smile.

12. Sense of Direction - You couldn't find your ass with both hands. Literally. You tried. And wound up getting thrown in the clink for inappropriate conduct with a nun. Don't drop the soa-- Too late.

13. Sense of Modesty - So what if you're using a belt as a skirt. It looks good, right? Bending over and showing off too much isn't an issue for you, neither is changing in the middle of the store if you just have to wear that cute little shirt now.

14. Sense of Fashion - Yes, you think a pink polka-dotted bikini top goes just smashingly with the neon green bellbottoms. Bubblewrap tops? Freakin' awesome. Put it on and flaunt it, and watch people's eyes bleed.

15. Sense of Timing - "What do you mean now's a bad time?" Yes, because you think trying to pick up a girl at her husband's funeral is a good thing. What? She's single. You're late to everything. A clock? Wassat? Strange, foreign words...

16. Mix and Match - You poor bastard, you've lost more than one sense. 2? 3? The whole lot? Who knows, that's up to you.

"I'm sure you will," Sharon said, believing nothing of the sort. "And until then? How many people will realize how vulnerable you are and take advantage?"

She stood and watched him. He didn't seem pleased that she'd figured it out, and she couldn't pretend she didn't understand. She'd have been upset if it had happened to her.

"Want something to eat?" she offered. Maybe kindness would appease him. Maybe.

There was an answer to the question that she asked. Unfortunately it had already been interrupted by him being seen and found out by the person that was talking to him. He was sure that it wouldn’t have much weight behind it if he answered with what he expected to do from here. That he was just going to be looking from somewhere to lay low until his sight returned. If his sight returned.

Instead he decided to stay silent to her questioning. It was better than answering a question that would only point directly to his mistake out more.

Her kindness didn’t appease him as much as it confused the hell at of him. He wasn’t sure what to make out it. Especially coming from someone that he didn’t know and didn’t have any reason to be kind to him. The feeling of confusion was clear on his face.

Okay, so kindness didn't have the result she'd expected. Watching him, seeing the confusion on his face, she wondered if it was because he was confused about her or about any kindness being shown to him at all. She hated to admit it, but it broke her heart a little to see.

A bleeding heart such as hers was a damn good way to get killed.

It was also a way to keep him safe until Rogers or someone could take care of him.

"I have a safe house a couple blocks from here where we can stay. Not much food, but I can microwave us something, if you want."

She was tempted to just reach out and lead him to where she wanted him to be, but she suspected that he would, at the very least, break her arm for that. She'd try the more patient tact for a while longer, though patience wasn't exactly her strong suit.

The winter soldier didn’t know what to make of her offer to help him. He didn’t think that anyone would even give him a second thought. Unless it was one of the groups of people that didn’t seem to get tired of chasing him around the world. Which was behind the blindness that he was experiencing at the moment.

In this vulnerable state there wasn’t much options for a wanted Hydra agent.

There was a moment of hesitation but the broken soldier hold out his hand. He might not have said that he would go out with her but he thought that gesture was enough.

Sharon reached out to grab his hand automatically but paused when her hand was inches away. He was faster and far more deadly than she could ever dream of being. Surprising him without realizing it likely wasn't a good idea.

"I'm taking your hand now, okay?" She gently wrapped her fingers around his. "Hold on. This might be better." She carefully intertwined their fingers and slowly moved to his side. "There. Now we draw less attention. I'm going to take you to the street now, and we're going to take a left for three blocks, then another left." She gave a small tug on his hand to guide him along, careful to tell him in a soft undertone of any uneven pavement or curbs along the way; she was also careful to tell him the size of each obstacle, describing each one as best she could for him to help him not panic. She wasn't even sure he could panic. But letting him panic when he held her hand was idiocy.

There was a small bit of fear in placing his trust into someone that he did not know. Someone that he knew only by the sound of her voice. It was hard enough for the broken soldier to trust people that he had know from before, Steve, or even people that he could see. It was a whole other story to trust someone in the vulnerable state that he was currently in. Still it was the state that he was in that didn’t give him many choices. It was either go with her or stay to find his own way to a safer place. It didn’t matter which he had chosen, he would be putting his life and freedom at risk.

His arm tensed as she grabbed onto his hand, wrapping her fingers around his.

He looked straight ahead as she started to walk. As to give to the illusion that he could see just fine. It was helped by the fact that she was so talented as making sure that he didn’t give away his weakness. Telling him of each and every obstacle that could possibly give him away.

Her nerves were still on edge as she led him up the steps to her safe house. It wasn't the nicest of places; buildings in this city weren't cheap.

What if this went wrong? What if Hydra was watching him? She hadn't seen anyone following them, but there were other ways people could be tracked.

Worse, what if he was still working for Hydra, and this was some weird way of getting information out of people? What if his vulnerability was supposed to inspire her to lead him straight to SHIELD personnel who can help him, or lay a trap for Rogers?

She watched him as she turned the key. If he was genuinely blind and alone, she couldn't turn him loose for Hydra to get their hands on him again. She could watch over him for a while to determine whether or not he was a threat.

She described the details of their surroundings as she leads him into the front hall and turns him through the doorway on the right. She took him around the room and gently took one of his hands, running it along the walls and furniture so he could find his way around. She finally stopped in front of a chair.

"There's a chair behind you, if you want to sit. Are you hungry?"

It could probably go without saying that there wasn’t a lot of trusting going around. It wasn’t that big of a surprise. It wasn’t as if there were many reasons for them to trust each other. Not only because of the issues with Hydra within SHIELD but they didn’t know each other. At least he didn’t know anything about her. It was entirely possible that she had read up information on the winter soldier. Even with SHIELD’s limited files it was still most of his life. That was if the times that he was frozen as part of his life.

It certainly didn’t make any of this easy for the broken soldier. Not only did he not know who she was but he didn’t know where she had brought him. He only had her word that this place was safe for him.

As she spoke about the safe house they had walked into he tried his best to remember it all. Counting the steps between the walls and the furniture. From one table to another. He didn’t want to bump into anything and stumble around the house like some helpless person.

The chair?

He took a step back, the chair hitting the back of his leg. He stumbled slightly as he sat back into the chair.

“You don’t have to trouble yourself,” he said knowing it was already a lot that she was doing for him.

"Don't want you to starve. Besides, I have to eat, too." Her voice faded as she went into the kitchen. "What do you feel like? Sandwich? Soup? Uh..." She rifled through the cabinets. "I can do pasta?"

She kept an eye on him as she searched, occasionally glancing suspiciously out the window in case Hydra agents were getting into position. She didn't see anyone.

That didn't mean they weren't there. Hydra had taught her that some people could hide in plain sight better than she could ever have imagined. Just because she didn't see anyone didn't meant they weren't there.

With the sound of her voice fading away the nerves started in. He wouldn't go as far as to admit that he was afraid to be alone in the state he was in. No, he definitely would never admit that. Still as the walls of the kitchen blocked the sound of her voice his body tensed.

Of course he assumed that she had gone into the kitchen. Since she was talking about food but he didn't exactly know for sure.

"Anything you have will be fine," he said in a way of saying yes to the food without actually saying yes.

She dug through the fridge and felt a tinge of regret. She'd never expected to have guests at the safe house, but even if she were alone, her food selection was terrible. Particularly trying to find something that a blind man could eat with little difficulty.

In the end, she made them each a ham sandwich and carried them out. "Incoming," she said before setting his in his lap. "Ham sandwich. Hope you aren't a vegetarian. You want water, soda, or beer to drink?"

At least she didn’t seem to be springing anything on him. Ever since the moment that she took his hand outside she had been describing and warning him of any movement. He would think that someone would slip up a bit but she hadn’t. It didn’t make this state any better but it had made it easier to handle. It was as if he didn’t have to worry about a sudden touch or something that got into his way.

As soon as the sandwich he started to scarf it down. It had been a couple of days since he had the time to get anything to eat. Large bites, barely seconds between bites. He didn’t even take a moment to pause to answer her question.
agentxthirteen: (6: how many hit?)

"Okay," Sharon said slowly, her eyes widening in surprise. How long had he been wandering before she'd found him? He was acting as if he hadn't eaten in days. "I guess you'd better take mine, and I can make another one. And I'll get yo some water while I'm at it."

She set her plate on top of his empty one and headed back to the kitchen.

Nothing weird about this at all, she told herself as she got a glass of water for him. After a moment's hesitation, she went ahead and poured him another.

It wasn’t exactly easy to make time for a meal when he could barely make time to sleep. There were few moments where he wasn’t on the move. Trying to evade and hide from anyone that could be looking for him. Even then he wasn’t always successful in keeping himself hidden which got him into this mess in the first place.

“Thank you,” he said as the second sandwich was handed to him.

He didn’t think that he would get a moment to finish one sandwich let alone two.

Had he just thanked her? An international assassin who'd been brought out of ice to kill her boss and her neighbor-slash-Captain-America?

"No trouble," she said after a moment. "I said I'd try to help, didn't I?"

She replayed the conversation in her mind, and then it dawned on her that she'd left out something significant. "I'm Sharon." She left out her last name. She didn't think it would help him as much as having any name, period, might.
putonice: winter soldier (not asking for forgiveness)

[personal profile] putonice 2014-11-08 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
No trouble?

That was exactly what the soldier didn’t understand. He didn’t get why she would help him, why she would even think about helping him. It was in small part because of him that SHIELD had fallen. Maybe a little more than small part.

There was a part of him that wanted to ask what she wanted.

“Agent 13,” he said absentmindedly.

He was Hydra’s weapon. He was supposed to know all those that were against them.
agentxthirteen: (05: i won't let that happen)

So he did know who she was. She wasn't sure how much he knew, but it was evident he'd known about her before he'd lose his sight.

She sat on the edge of the table and watched him, tempted to ask what he'd known and simultaneously afraid that might trigger something. It might be better to focus on the present until he felt more comfortable with her.

"Is there anything else I can get you?"

As the asset there was knowledge of all the top agents within SHIELD. As well as information on important figures all over the world. It wasn’t just the targets that he was assigned to handle. It would be smart to send out an asset that didn’t have to skill and the knowledge to take on whatever was thrown in his path. If Agent 13 had been in the way of him completely a mission he knew her fighting style, any weakness that Hydra had determined, as well as had his training to get him through to his target.

Although at the thought of Agent 13 coming to mind he thought that he shouldn’t say anymore. Not that he felt compelled to. He didn’t want to talk about SHIELD, Hydra, or anything to do with the two groups.

“I’m good,” he said as he sat there. He didn’t move. He didn’t know how she would react after he had just called her Agent 13.
agentxthirteen: (04: fuck these guys)

She frowned. He's a man of far too many words, obviously. "Yeah, Agent 13. You can call me Sharon, though, if you want."

She got to her feet. "I'm going to get something for me to eat, then. Do you want me to take you to the bathroom for a shower or something?"
putonice: civilian (here I stand)

[personal profile] putonice 2014-11-18 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
“Yeah, I think I’ll go with Sharon,” he commented.

The soldier might not have much to say but that was because he wasn’t used to talking with people. It wasn’t as if he was chatting up the cute girl at the grocery store. For years he was treated as a weapon, not a person, and now he was on the run from people that he was sure would have working as a weapon again. That was if they caught him and that was a pretty big if in his mind.

He raised his head as she stood. It was again as he was looking at her when he was just looking in the direction of the noise.

Extending his hand towards her. “If you could,” he said to the comment about walking him over to the bathroom.

If there was one thing trying to take care of Peggy had taught her, it was that taking care of someone could be a full-time job. At least Bucky wasn't likely to forget things in the middle of the night and go off to fight Hydra.

"Sure." She took his hand and tugged him upright. "It's this way." Again, she led the way, moving his hand in hers so he could feel any tables or chairs around him. Once they reach the bathroom, she briefly takes him around, putting his hand on the sink, faucets, the toilet, the hand towels, even the shower, describing it as best she can along the way.

At length, she set his hand on the door. "I'm going to get some food from the kitchen. Call if you need anything."

[personal profile] putonice 2014-11-19 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
As soon as he stood up there was no hesitation in being led by Sharon. It was a little easier to being led in the direction of the bathroom since he still remembered where most of the furniture in the apartment was. That was because of when she showed him around the apartment when they had first walked in. It might have just been to give him a lay of the land but it made it easier to walk with her to the bathroom. He wasn’t as worried that she would be taken him into a cell. Although she could have left a caged room out of the original tour but he wasn’t going to think about that.

He was standing in the middle of the room. Even before she left the bathroom he had already taken off his shirt. Showing off the full view of what Hydra had done to him. He set the shirt onto the doorknob.

“I will,” he replied. He doubted that he would need any help in the shower.

She froze when she saw the scar tissue around his arm; it was more damage than what had fused his metal arm to his body, it looked like his arm had been ripped off. She stared at the tendrils, healed over by whatever serums they'd given him and by decades of healing while being experimented upon.

She caught herself staring and quickly closed the door so he could have some privacy. She stood there with her hand on the knob for several seconds, her mind slowly processing what she had seen.

At length, she finally moved away and went to get herself something to eat. Her movements were slow and mechanical. The thought of what must have been done to him... She couldn't even imagine.
