Warning for triggers of violence and death.
Warning for triggers of violence and death.
- 1. YOU ARE INFECTED. It could be days, hours, or even minutes before you turn. Do you keep it to yourself and pray for a cure? Or do you hand your weapon over and trust your friend to put you down before you can hurt anyone?
- 2. YOU KNOW. At least, you're pretty sure. They've been getting thinner, weaker, and the temperature that they're running can't be good. How do you proceed?
- 3. THEY'RE STILL HUMAN. These zombies are still people, you're the only one that sees it.
- 4. IT'S YOU OR ME. There's no way the two of you can get out of here alive. Are you a good enough friend to let them go, or are you the sort to ensure that you only have to outrun them?
- 5. ABOMINATION. You've handled everything you've come across so far, but this is just wrong. Be it a baby, an animal, or a horrific mutation that grants it special powers—this one is throwing you for a loop.
- 6. NOT YOU. You recognize that one. Maybe it's a family member, a close friend, a lover, or a co-worker - you know who they are. Do you have the strength to do what needs to be done?
ii . SUPPLIES.
- 1. NOTHING LEFT. You're running out of almost everything. You've only got enough to feed one person now. Do you give it up, or are you ready to kill so that you may survive?
- 2. FOOD RUN. You and your buddy are all that stands between your group and cannibalism. Better hop to it.
- 3. ROTTEN. It's sat out too long and now everything is bad. You might have eaten it before you realized how rotten it was and now you're paying the price.
- 4. STOCKED. You found the ideal hideout and you want for nothing.
iii. YOU AGAINST THE WORLD
- 1. YOU'VE GOT A PLAN. You can protect your team, but it might cost you your life.
- 2. IMPROVISED WEAPONRY. They're closing in and you've got to think fast.
- 3. MUTINY. You're tired of their authority. You can do a better job.
- 4. ESCAPE. That city was getting too full, you've hotwired and tricked out a vehicle and now you're getting the hell out of dodge. Any zombie causalities are completely intentional.
- 5. SURROUNDED. Your safe space isn't so safe. They're on all sides of you and you're starting to run out of ammo.
- 6. NEVER ENDING ROAD TRIP. You've been in this car for ages, everyone is getting tired, and you're not sure where a safe rest stop is.
- 7. YOU WERE IN ON IT. You're safe in the head office of EVIL INC. and nothing can go wrong. Unless that clumsy scientist knocks that vial over, or unless one of your co-workers goes mad with the guilt. Or maybe you didn't know what you were getting into, maybe you've switched sides and you two aim to fix this mess.
- 8. ONLY ONES LEFT. Everyone else is dead. You're all that's left in the world. Where do you go from here?
iv. WILDCARD.

2.2 and 3.5 later?
And for the actual food-running, Shanoa has brought along the biggest bag that she could carry slung over one shoulder.
She considered flying, but she didn't know the way, didn't even really know what to look out for to find where they needed to go. ]
You're going to have to lead the way. I don't know where it is that we're supposed to be searching for food.
Hell yeah! Sounds good to me.
Tifa tightened her gloves for the third time, then clenched each hand into a fist. Perfect. The stretching and creaking of leather were a welcomed sound in this otherwise silent wasteland.]
I remember seeing food stalls further down, but... it was an open area. [Here, she pointed to their right, where the streets were emptier. Little cover for the duo to stay out of sight, but that also meant less hidey holes for those freakish monsters.] And I'm not sure how much of it would still be edible at this point.
[Assuming nobody already took it...
She, too, shouldered a bag. Smaller than some of the other options, sure, but she could adjust the straps. That granted her the flexility to abandon the sack in an instant, should the duo be ambushed and she needed to brawl.]
If we go left, we'll run into the residential area. [Then it was just a matter of ransacking homes and hoping for the best.] What do you think?
awesome
Shanoa had seen Tifa around but never properly met the woman. There was always something to be doing, something to be keeping herself busy with, someone who needed help and Shanoa tried to be there for those people. It seemed like Tifa was going to be using her fists. They were both rather unassuming with no visible weapons on them, though zombies probably didn't care about anything like that. ]
The food stalls will be easier to check than an entire home. I think we should check there before resorting to the residential area.
[ She was glad to have someone who knew the area better than she did. ]
no subject
[She wouldn't be holding her breath.
Before they walked any further, though, Tifa stopped short. Just when had the two ever shared words before today? Well, more than a hello, or a shouted command if things went south? Silly, Tifa. Sneaking out into enemy territory without knowing your ally?
Time to fix that before they went any further.
She turned to the other woman and offered a sheepish, yet genuine smile.] I don't think we've had a real conversation before today. [She extended her hand, but kept her senses sharp. Wouldn't put it past a zombie to sneak up on her while she was making nice.]
What's your fighting style? [She hadn't failed to notice their lack of weapons, after all.]
no subject
We haven't.
[ She didn't mind, in any case. Shanoa gave Tifa a less sheepish but smaller smile and shook her hand. She was also possibly more relaxed about the whole thing. Part of fighting so many terrors was simply not fearing them. Zombies were no exception. ]
I fight using magic. And you?
no subject
Long range spells, then? [It didn't matter what the woman's preference was, but that would be useful to know, should they be forced to fight. She wiggled her fingers.] Martial artist here.
[In the chaos of the zombie invasion--and wasn't that strange to say--she'd completely forgotten about her stash of materia. No magic or support spells for her. When she'd returned for them, they were gone.
After their handshake, Tifa continued along their chosen path, making sure to hug the walls of nearby buildings. The street they were on, which was once so full of activity--was empty, both of objects, and life (or lackthereof). Her gut churned from the thought.
Every now and then, however, she did hear a distant groan or shuffle. And every time it happened, she froze in place, straining her hearing to pick up where the wayward zombie was shuffling.]
Is it just me, or are there more of them nearby?
no subject
It will be easier to demonstrate, should the need arise. We will both return unharmed, that much I can promise you.
[ As far as Shanoa was concerned, Tifa was under her care and protection.
Once she started again, Shanoa followed but trailed just a couple of steps behind to let her lead. When Tifa stopped, Shanoa did, too. ]
I've come to expect them at any turn. [ She offered a wry smile, maybe something to help ease Tifa's nerves. ] How many would you say is a normal amount of them?
no subject
She waited until the shuffling died off and it was overbearingly quiet before speaking.]
I don't think there is a normal amount. They're like us. Some travel alone, others in groups of two or three, and then there are packs of them. The packs are... smarter. [Which was the most unnerving part to this. Some zombies were rail thin and faster than a fit human. It was like a wolf sprinting after, then pouncing on its prey. Others were so fat and slow that she couldn't help but wonder how they managed to catch anything. Turns out they teamed up.
Here, she looked away, as if reliving a scene she'd rather not. In the earlier days, when the number of humans was about equal to the number of zombies, and when Shanoa and Tifa's small group had first banded together, Tifa regretted ever volunteering to scout the area. Seeing the swarm and how it functioned that one time was enough.]
no subject
It matters not. Whether as one or many, these monsters will survive no encounter with us.
[ Walking forward a few steps so that she was more in line with Tifa, she lightly gestured the woman forward. ]
We should not linger here while the people are awaiting our return.
no subject
They had a few close calls, but the zombies, usually alone or with one other, seemed oblivious. It was a wonder how they made it to the market area as easily as they did.
...But it seemed the lack of battle was the extent of their luck. Tifa's brows furrowed as she dug through yet another cart. More moldy vegetables.]
Any luck over there?
no subject
Shanoa had found... plenty of trash. Empty cans and moldy food and not a whole lot else. When Tifa asked she stood upright from the cart she was rummaging through. She held up a tin half-full with frosting and some salt in a salt shaker.
It was something. ]
Nothing of substance. I think we will have to search through those homes after all.
no subject
I guess we should get moving.
no subject
She turned back to Tifa and made her way to her. ]
Do you think you could tell the way to those abandoned homes in the air?
no subject
[It'd been a while since she'd explored the residential area, but the closely packed homes should be easy to pick out from above. At the very least, it would save them a lot of travel time.]
no subject
[ Shanoa extended a hand out to Tifa so that they could hold onto each other's arms. She also decided to leave out that she had never actually flown carrying another person before. It would probably be fine.
no subject
Ready when you are.
[Please don't go splat.]
(OOC: Sorry the responses are slowing down. In graduate school and I have two exams coming up. May become a bit scarce by the end of this week. If so, it's not because I'm abandoning the thread, just drowning in science :) )
no subject
Being magical wings, they only flapped every now and again as Shanoa soared through the air with Tifa in tow, headed in the general directions that those homes should have been in. ]
( ooc: no worries! :D )
no subject
And yet...
It was freeing: the wind whipping through her hair, cool air kissing her cheeks, the sensation of weightlessness. It reminded her of her times with AVALANCHE, of when her body glided across both ground and air, fluid and unrestrained--like water. When fears and reservations took a backseat to survival and saving mankind.
Was this really so different?
...How long had it been since the apocalypse began? Of being cramped in tight living quarters with strangers?]
Shanoa! Veer left!
[To their left, never ending buildings abruptly disappeared, replaced by a densely packed neighborhood with patches of green grass spattered here and there.]
(ooc: *keels over* I'm sorrrrrry! D:)
no subject
I'm going to set us down on that roof.
[ Not that she could point it out. The roof she was headed towards had a small balcony patio, where she set Tifa back onto her own feet before landing herself. ]
I hope we find more luck here.
( ooc: omg you don't have to apologize! )
no subject
Tifa rocked up to her tip toes to peer above the smear.]
Well, we found something... [Definitely not what Shanoa had hoped for, though.]
(ooc: Lol thanks! I still feel bad it took me a little longer. I'm turning into a zombie myself this week. Braaains~)
no subject
Is there something there?
[ She leaned forward, putting her face closer to the glass to see inside. ]
( ooc: dont feel bad! :D )
no subject
…Whether it was 'alive' or dead, Tifa wasn't sure. Only one way to find out, though.]
Sleeping zombie, maybe?
