THE ‘WE’RE STRANDED’ MEME

You’re stranded it’s as simple as that. Maybe you were on your way to a nice relaxing holiday, a business trip or maybe you were just on your way home. Whatever the case, it doesn’t look like you’re going to be reaching your destination any time soon. You’re stuck and all you can do is to try and survive until help arrives. If help ever does arrive. Well, at least you’re not alone. No, there’s someone here stranded with you. Maybe you know them, maybe they’re a complete stranger or maybe they were stranded here long before you. Whoever they are you’re going to have to work together to get out of this mess.

What you do to survive and what happens to you is up to you. Do you search for food, do you try and find any signs of human life, do you have a run in with the locals or the local wildlife or do you just close your eyes and hope someone finds you. Whatever happens good luck.

WHERE ARE YOU STRANDED?

On an island – You’re stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. There’s no phone or radio signal and there are no signs of life (that you can see). It could be a huge island with a dense forest in the center or it could be a small, sandy island with sparse vegetation cover. It’s up to you.
In the jungle – One minute you’re making your way along a jungle trail and the next minute you’re completely lost. You have no idea where you are, you have no idea which way to go and all you can see around you is trees and more trees. Have fun in the jungle. Look out for the wildlife and any local tribes
In space – The sci-fi option. For some reason you were in space. Maybe you’re inside a ship stranded in the middle of nowhere or stranded in the middle of some kind of asteroid field. Or maybe you were outside of your space shuttle and now you’re stranded with no way to return. Let’s hope your oxygen supply doesn’t run out
Open Water – Maybe you were simply out for a swim and the current was too strong, pulling you out to sea. Maybe you were diving and after resurfacing you’ve realized you have absolutely no idea which way is land and your boat is nowhere to be seen. Or maybe it’s a Titanic-type situation and your ship has sunk. Better get your life jacket ready.
High in the air – Maybe you’re trapped in a ski lift high above the ground just like the movie Frozen. Maybe you were on a roller-coaster or a Ferris wheel and the rides malfunctioned. Or maybe you’re just stuck at the top of a really, really high mountain or cliff. Whatever the situation you better not be afraid of heights!
Inside an elevator - This one is pretty self-explanatory. You were in an elevator, the elevator stopped and now you’re stranded inside the small space, probably with a bunch of people you don’t know until help arrives.
A cave – Maybe you had planned to explore the cave system or maybe it was a spontaneous event but you went inside and now you’re stranded with no way out.
The middle of nowhere – This can cover any landscape really: a mountainous area, a desert, the middle of the countryside, a tundra area. Whatever the landscape there’s no signs of human life anywhere. You’re stranded.
Wild Card! – Don’t like any of the options given? Come up with your own scenario!

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

[ Stars were something of a rare sight for them- even if they spent most of their time between expeditions on the fringes of Wall Rose it was always in cramped, cast aside castles that might have been the summer homes to lesser lords. Old buildings 'generously' donated to the Corps as stopgap bases of operation. More cost effective and it gave some duke a small benefaction to brag about at the next inner Wall summer salon. They had small windows to keep in the heat in the winter and stay cool in the hotter months, but at night you would never see much. So, no stars unless on an expedition and on those occasions if you were looking up it was because an aberrant was breathing down your neck. Not because you found the time to look at the scenery.

Pricks, Levi wanted to spit as he toed a decaying log away from their pile of kindling. Finding himself irritated by the wrong thing at the wrong. The nascency of their situation to get out of these woods before they could count themselves the unfortunate few that managed to die during a simple training excessive had worn his already straining patience into the ground. Soon the temperature would drop and that fire would need to be stoked all night to keep away more than wild animals. They had their supplies, but there was no going down the mountainside with their horses for risk of being tripped on the rocks and underbrush. Especially when they were lost. Totally, inarguably and embarrassingly lost. ]

What? [ Levi tore his gaze away from the stars, silent as ever to their plight. Or perhaps because Levi waved off the suggestion they bring a star chart. He conceded now that he had really shit the bed on that one. ]

Tea. [ Levi echoed as he walked back to their hastily set encampment and leaned down by the fire to see that before they had headed out he had, indeed, packed a tin box of black tea leaves. ] Right- tea. Petra, hand me that iron pot and the waterskin we filled at the river.

[ Damned if Levi was going to let himself look like an ass in front of Petra because he went ahead and packed a luxury item for a training exercise. If anything, if this worked it would get the taste of hardtack out of his mouth. And if not...well, if not he trusted Petra to let him live it down with dignity. ]

Yes, sir. [Ultimately, she wasn't going to question the inclusion of the tea. It might have been a reflex of his, who knows. It was less trouble than some of his other quirks, and it would be nice to have something warm to help keep the chill out of her bones.

The pot and the waterskin are easy enough to retrieve, their campsite neatly arranged. There were advantages to keeping things neat and clean--it'd be easy in the morning to pack up when the sun was high enough to see clearly. Petra didn't want to linger for very long. It was pretty with the leaves starting to change, sure, but there were much better things to do than wander around the woods.]

How are we going to strain it?

[Teapots were conveniences, water could be heated in lots of things. Straining the leaves out, however, was something else entirely.]

Easily. [ Levi returned in a clipped tone; his tempered flared out of finding fault with the oversights made when he packed for this training exercise than anything Petra had done. Right now he wanted to concentrate on righting his error with whatever stopgap solution he could think of on the fly before his souring mood made the night unbearable. ]

Hold this. [ Tin cups were pulled out his ruck sack and passed over to Petra as he stirred the boiling leaves until the water was a uniform, deep amber color. Levi had also taken out the small spool of wire for equipment maintenance. Two lengths of wire was cut and twisted off at the end to form a misshapen circle. Whatever he had planned became clear when he unfastened his cravat and created a strainer from it with the fabric as the cloth and the metal holding it together at the hem; the metal wire tied at the end to form a handle. ]

There- tea. [ Levi said flatly as if he had it all planned from the beginning as he strained the water over their mugs. ]

[Petra watches him quietly. It was interesting to see him brew tea, something he cared so much about. She didn't know what he loved more--properly brewed tea or a clean room. When he begins to untie his cravat, Petra's eyes widen, and for a moment, she almost reaches out to stop him. It felt a little strange to see him just take it off like, maybe a little too personal, and her cheeks are slightly pink. Sure, he probably would have taken it off eventually; sleeping in that probably would have been super uncomfortable, but even so...]

Thank you, sir. [She takes the tin cup carefully, trying to to burn her fingers on the hot metal. Unlike her captain, she held her cup like a normal person, right hand on the handle and her left fingertips pressed lightly against the side to help balance it. She doesn't drink it, not when it's so hot, but she does pause to inhale the smell, smiling.] This is nice, I'm glad you brought it.
