Life is hard. You can go through rough patches and over bumps, and sometimes it feels as though you're definitely worse for the wear, both physically and mentally. It's nice to have someone - someone more than a friend - there for you in those times...even if you don't think you want them or deserve them. But they're here, and they'll take care of you.

How to Play:
* This is a shipping meme for more tender, soft moments, but a little more serious than your usual "fluff." It's for people who've been broken down by their experience and those who wish to heal them.
* Comment with your character/your preferences. You may also want to specify whether your character will be the one "cared for" or the one doing the "caring" + pertinent information, but for most effectiveness, it's best to be open to both.
* Comment around.

1. Know You've Been Hurt By Someone Else: There are scars left on their heart from a past relationship or fling, and you have to let them know you're not the same way.
2. Can Tell By the Way You Carry Yourself: The person you have feelings for is one of those "cold stone wall" types who pushes people away. Can you get past that?
3. I've Asked About You: You've only heard bad things about this person, but you don't believe it.
4. What's a Life with No Fun: Lighten up a bit! You'd do anything to bring a smile to their face.
5. Please Don't Be So Ashamed: You have a big, BIG secret you don't want the other person to find out about, because surely they wouldn't want to even be near you if they did.
6. I've Had Mine, You've Had Yours: You've both had problems, and it could help to compare wounds so they can begin to heal.
7. Those Lies Heal: Protecting your loved one is more important that the truth, isn't it? It's a lie, but there are good intentions here.
8. You Can't Sleep: Because of past trauma, you're having a sleepless night. Luckily, this time you have somebody to help you and give you some comfort.
9. You Cry Still: The obligatory "seeing your significant other/love cry over something and wanting to make them stop at any cost" option.

13. Tryna Run from That: Uh-oh, you don't want to fall in love, because you've been there, done that! Maybe there's still time to escape from this...or maybe it's too late.
14. I Will Care for You: After a particularly rough day, you're need a little TLC. Your loved one is going to do everything for you - a bath, food, the works.
15. All the Baggage Just Ain't as Heavy: You know it will take a while for this person to mend psychologically and spiritually, and you're willing to wait.

17. We'll Just Go Slow: You're going to take things one step at a time. No need to rush and define things. Just enjoy each other's company and the healing it brings.
18. We All Have Our Nights: Your lover, because of their past experience, is having a complete breakdown. You have to bring them back from the edge.

It's not like he doesn't expect it. Quill's never been good at staying away from treasure too long. He scratches at the end of his nose with his pinky, cigarette hanging from between his middle and index. Today doesn't look like it's gone too bad, but Makoto's not going to discount at least some awful bruising beneath Quill's coat.

As is often the case.

Maybe he should feel more irritated that Quill always seems to come around only after his skirmishes for first-aid--it is troublesome, and it does require some extra effort--but Makoto admits he's just relieved most times that Quill's alive at all.

He sighs, gesturing to the stairs that leads to the second floor of the family fruit stand. "You gonna get in my room or what?"

Rogers hadn't been the one to find him. It had taken the team by surprise but none more so than the Black Widow. She hadn't been looking. She hadn't been hunting for him. Just like her first encounter with the Hulk, there were some traumas she tried to forget. Some nightmares she tried to deny happened. The Winter Soldier was one of them.

They had returned to base in silence. She hadn't questioned him. She hadn't looked at him. The only reason she even accepted his surrender was because she knew Steve would want it. Steve wouldn't forgive her if she shot down his best friend, and if there was one thing she understood it was a second chance. It was the need to get the red from one's ledger. Maybe Bucky had found himself. Maybe the guilt had gotten to him. Maybe the nightmares had laid claim to his ravaged mind. Maybe he had nowhere else to go.

The days ticked by. Then months. Then it slowly turned into years. He didn't desert them. He didn't turn on them. He didn't attack them. And still Natasha watched in silence. She spoke only as far as the missions required, leaving any other contact to Steve and the others. Occasionally she left him a cup of coffee, or a serving of a meal she may have cooked (though more often ordered and had delivered). Occasionally they sat at opposite ends of the same sofa and ended up watching a film together.

Nothing seemed to be changing to outside observers. Steve had often accused her of being cold, of deliberately punishing his friend through silence and exclusion. Natasha had taken the verbal blows without argument. How was she supposed to explain it to Steven when she couldn't even explain it to herself. How was she supposed to explain that it was her way of coping. Of dealing with the presence of the man that had been the Winter Soldier. That it wasn't because she didn't want to talk to him, didn't want to try...

Days passed again and Natasha found herself alone in the base with Barnes. She had finished paying for a delivery of Italian food and turned to walk silently into the living area, her bare feet silent on the carpet. The only noise was the television and the occasional clink of Bucky's metal hand against a glass. She stopped in front of him, and held up the large paper bag. "Are you hungry, James?"
